You could try another speed test. I often use www.pcpitstop.com

Having said that, I tried robin walker's speed test tonight, and it gave very similar results to pcpitstop.

Edit: and that fits with the 80Kbytes, I got from Kronas's link (600 service here)

Anyhow, it seems after all that, that there may be a problem with the speed test, since I also download around 18kBytes/sec, but the speed test gives me results around 140-150kb/s. Strange.

your confusing kilobits with kilobytes 8 kilobits = 1 kilobyte something like that maths is not my strongest

Maybe XSF03 thought it was strange that he would get 18KB off your link, and 150 kb from the speedtest when peterska was getting 18 KB and 50kb.

Sorry...didn't make myself clear.
What I was trying to say was, I get a download speed of 18kBytes/sec, as indicated by windows, when downloading files, which ties in with my speed test results of 140-150 kbits/sec.

It's strange that peterska2 & tabatha also get an indicated 18kB/s from the windows download indicator, but only get a result of around 60kb/s when using Robin Walker's speed test.

[edit] yep...that's right danielf. (I realy must learn to type faster :D )

I find it strange as well. Speed tests may be inaccurate, but a factor 3 difference between the windows download indicator and a speed test is more than inaccurate. My feeling is that something must be amiss (be it local settings for peterska & tabatha) or some issue that is affecting their downloads from the speedtest site, but not from blueyonder.

dont know if this has been posted but try these patches at your own risk though to improve the windows values

Hi..As a footnote to my postings on this thread I have outlined the steps I have taken,in the hope they may be of help to others with a similar problem.....
Speed test on .co.uk home page showed d/load speeds of an average of 55kbits/sec
Tried modem reboot...no diff.
spent 20+mins on fone to BB tech support, who went thro all my comp settings, altering many.T.S.asked me to go to pcpitstop..manual d/load of 141kbits/sec..
Tried d/load as suggested by kronas...about142kbits sec
Today I have tried speed test again with pcpitstop....
Manual..141..auto..150...
Minutes ago tried speed test on home page...ave56kbits/sec..
Would appear the home page test is not compatible with all comps/settings...others have had similar speed results...
As I said, this is posted to maybe help others..I have no axe to grind...many thanks to all who posted advice...VERY MUCH APPRECIATED....

It may not be the BB that's at fault, but the "virtual circuit" between your computer and the source.

Personally I use Download Accelerator Plus which, where possible, opens up multiple links between you and the source and/ or any mirrors available and downloads file "chunks".

This means that if one link is running slow, the others take up the slack and aren't held up by the laggard.

You can download a free version from http://www.speedbit.com
