So, since you cannot get rid of html in Outlook, I would suggest getting rid!!!

Outlook 2002 (XP) SP-1 can be patched using the registry see

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307594

This used to work for me -

Outlook 2003 has an option under mail setup to read all mail as plaintext.

which also seems to work fine

not sure about the 2000 version or earlier, but ISTR I managed it!

Re: [merged] NTL Spam Filtering

I use a combination of Spampal (particularly the excellent regex filter), The Bat (far safer and more feature rich than Outlook or Outlook Express) and Zone Alarm Pro (blocks unsafe attachments and prevents mass emailing). I've no problems. I do get loads of spam but most of it (approx 98%) is flagged and moved to a common spam folder (i.e. all spam sent to all my accounts is shifted to one folder, and deleted from the server so my inboxes don't become full).

I have an account "mapspart@ntlworld.com" that I give out on newsgroups and other dodgy places. Emails sent to this address are given 200 points by Spampal.

It never ceases to amaze me that despite people knowing how bad NTL is at providing services (including customer services), they still want NTL to filter out spam :disturbd: You really think NTL will manage to do it effectively? You really think you won't lose important emails? How will you know if you've lost an email if the sender doesn't phone/write to say emails are being bounced (assuming they are bounced and don't just "vanish")?? You scream for spam protection because you can't/won't implement your own, and when NTL provide spam protection you'll scream because they're making a mess of it  I've posted about this before on a similar thread - virus protection yes, spam protection no. Shouldn't even need virus protection if people installed their own firewall and virus scanner  It's been suggested that NTL might maintain a blacklist, but like I said before - if NTL's customers have trouble contacting NTL and getting them to do stuff, what hope will the owners of blacklisted servers have? :D

So how can I implement spam protection that will work when I'm not around to run it myself? I can't, so my quotas are exceeded.
To block emails containing the commonest viruses is something that would be so trivial to impk, ement that even NTL would be hard pushed to get it wrong. Actually I probably shouldn't say that or they'll take it as a challenge :erm:

I'd just leave my email client open as always :erm: The PC is never turned off - being windows 98 it needs the occasional reboot though :) Pretty much runs itself. Like said - spam is automatically removed from the server; all other emails are left until they're deleted by NTL.

I'm obviously more of a wuss than you are, I'd never leave my PC on when I go away on holiday, too much worry about lightning strikes etc!

<glances at surge protector> :D

I know people leave their central heating on so the house is nice and warm on their return. Now if that went wrong it could potentially blow the side of the house off :D A PC seems a small thing.

i've recently been getting spam mails labelled as SEXUALLY EXPLICIT as per this acticle

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/04...rn_spam_label/

now my thinking is that if these mails are conforming to the FTC rules then they should also be conforming to the CAN-SPAM rules of the US and I can then use the remove me link ok to get off the list. Anyone else got any mails like this yet and tried the remove link..

trouble is these days if you use a remove link how do you know if it has really worked or not with the amount of spam we get!! they can easily mail back to say you have removed and then send you 10 mails from different companies all spoofed without you realising..

You wouldn't get me clicking a remove link for all the tea in china - it's pretty much guaranteed to make things worse regardless of guidelines/laws/regulations.
