http://www.loonyradio.co.uk website for an Online Radio station I help run, we broadcast now and again, there is no set schedule but someone usually comes on once a day for a few hours when we have time. I spent ages coding the PHP for this site and I think i've ironed all of the bugs out, when a DJ is signed in, you can request tracks from their track listing on their profile. Im quite pleased with it :)

Give or take 1 line or a couple. ;) :) But can you see my point about the sections? Also can you tell me how i can get my pips onto a seperate line? Its just i find them too close to a piece of text thats all.

Damien 14-02-2005 23:10

Re: [Merged] Promote your own website

No, Hardly anyone uses windows 98 anymore yet alone 95. Also windows ME & 2000 are quite similer in some respects. Not to mention that the user can just mention what OS they are running anyway when making the topic.

Spliting it up like that makes it harder for members to browse problems a lot of which are the same though 98 to XP. Also if i knew how to slove a problem on win 98 but had win xp i would only go to the XP section so i could never see the query in the 98 forum.

And there is a BIG difference between your forum and thiers, they have members. I am not picking on you, i have failed at many forums too. The main problem you have is in drawing people to your forum and copy other forums mean you have NO orignal content, nothing unique to your forum. So why would people bother?

Also less forums means more posts located in fewer forums which gives the impression that the forum is busyier than it actually is which means more members. Spreading out your few posts across loads of sections make it seem empty, meaning less members.

I think lots of people still use Win98, although I would assume that there isn't a lot of use of Win95 now.

Win ME & Win 2000 are not quite similar.

Win ME is pretty much Win98 "Third edition" (yet is actually worse than Second Edition).

Win 2000 is the successor to Win NT4, & is the predecessor to Win XP (2000 is effectively NT5, while I think XP is classed as NT5.1) - 2000, like NT4 & XP, is based on NT not Win9x.

But I do agree there isn't much use in having forums for all the different versions of Windows.

Agreed, Damien :tu:

I've said as much here:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...&postcount=390

as has Stuart W here:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...&postcount=391

Nothing unique, so nothing to draw people to the forum.

Dead forum... no one joins.

No one joins... dead forum.

Plus, as a lot of the subjects are already covered here, which is very active, & has many members, there's little chance of many people seeing the link here & deciding to sign up to a similar (yet empty) forum (as why bother, when they're already members here - where it's *active*)

Wayne, no offence, but, again, you really need to have a re-think if you want to draw people to your forum (IMO).

thats the piccy links - the final slash in the URL is the wrong way round - i.e. \index not /index ;)

IE reports an error -Object expected - on line 399 of the pictures page - could be that causing the problem? Are you using IE?

Time to open up your html files in notepad or something similar ;) Also I would try to refrain from putting spaces into file names as sometimes they can be formatted incorrectly during the upload process. How did you upload your files to the ntlworld server space?

Re: [Merged] Promote your own website

One up for IE! It converts '\' to '/', but Firefox doesn't (displays it in hex as as %5c).

presumably you still have the files, as Paul says, edit the html, accordingly, & upload the file again, overwriting the 'wrong' one.

- hang-on your site has changed to 'my gallery' with loads of picture links that don't work ;)

Just goes to show that Google has some failings when I can't find my relatively popular site (even by typing it's name), and a site with no content hits page one! How frustrating.

Please check out my new website:
www.directoryproject.com

Any comments would be useful, on the concept/functionality as much as the design. Also thought perhaps someone on here might be interested in editing a relevant category such as ISPs.

Look foward to your comments

Hiya all, if your into quality mixes and top quality friendly chat, with other like minded people, then head on over to http://www.happy2bhardcore.net and join up.

We have friendly members and our own shoutcast station where mixes are played over from various styles of hardcore from Happy to Dark Hardcore.

If your into your hardcore and sick of the low quality mass produced tunes, then this site is the one for you.

The seconday one I am a moderator and advisor to the person making it and share in ownership aswell, in costs and time :-) the first one i was but due to a split I have gone with another side who, lets say treat me with more respect considering the time and money I have put into it. :) should the moderators see this please remove post #486 thankyou as I no longer have anything to do with the website :) as well as this post ;)

Hey, think you spelt critic wrong, so the site should be:

http://theswearingfilmcritic.blogspot.com/

Edit : The site is fairly amusing, although it seems you've been swearing in some cases just for the sake of swearing, :D

Re: [Merged] Promote your own website

um... my site is real new and I never did a website before... but I guess you can all take a peek (remember tho it's still being put together and it's only a couple of weeks old).

Not had any previous experience with making websites (and still muddling through half the options and what they mean... and asking lots of questions cos I'm not sure I really understand what I'm doing).

So... here goes... www.potofgold.awenet.info
