Meanwhile back at the [whatever the vegi term for ranch is

EU to demand veggie burgers are called ‘VEGGIE DISCS’ - ‘Insult to our intelligence!’
THE European Union is sticking its bureaucratic nose in it once again - this time it is hoping to ban veggie burgers and veggie sausages.

oh what an insult to the cabbage crunchers fighting global whatsitsname

The agricultural committee of the European Parliament has bizarre plans to block vegetarian and vegan food products bearing the names of meat-related terms and names “exclusively for edible parts of the animals”. This includes veggie burgers and veggie sausages, which have somehow managed to become confusing for EU legislators. Steaks, sausages, escalope and burgers are all set for protected status after the committee voted 80 percent in favour of the changes.

Have you also noticed how fast the East coast is eroding away? My coastal walking this week has had to divert inland a few times due to eroding cliffs. Maybe you don't believe scientists, but use you own eyes...

Have you noticed how the wooden tide breakers are not being maintained by local councils , now there's nothing to take the power out of the waves.

Re: Climate Change - record World temp. rises in Feb.

I have to say that The Independents' article doesn't explicitly say that climate change is the driver of this sudden change and this does match up with the original article (see here for link - https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2.../25/1906556116 PNAS article - nice!)

What's interesting here is that antarctic sea ice has been increasing over the years from 1978 to around 2014 at which point it suddenly dropped back to 1978 levels in 3 years. What it does illustrate is that the climate can change suddenly and surprisingly at a rate much faster than expected. Also that there is some correlation between sea ice changes and conditions further afield. However, that paper is very much saying what has happened, not why...

Here's another article about this research from New Scientist - https://www.newscientist.com/article...dont-know-why/

I have to say that the author of this paper has a hell of a CV! - https://science.gsfc.nasa.gov/sed/bi...re.l.parkinson

The signs and impacts of global heating are speeding up, the latest science on climate change, published ahead of key UN talks in New York, says.
The data, compiled by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), says the five-year period from 2014 to 2019 is the warmest on record.
Sea-level rise has accelerated significantly over the same period, as CO2 emissions have hit new highs.

If she had travelled in a manner that us mere mortals had the option of using, she might have been making a valid point.

As it is she highlighted the reason why air travel is required, and possibly more environmentally friendly. Eg how much fuel was used to transport supplies to the racing yacht, for the month or so of travelling both ways across the Atlantic? Not everybody has access to a multi-million yacht, complete with crew, and has a month to waste doing nothing. The list of resources used goes on and on. All so she could get on the telly.

When you resort to posting views from such people, you have to ask questions about how skewed your world view is. I am not sure if you just constantly soak up the right wing propaganda from the Express, Mail, Guido, etc or if you actually have done some research on your own?

Don't be gullible and regurgitate the lies, do some research, read the science and analyse the evidence.

But who’s the real freak – the activist whose determination has single-handedly started a powerful global movement for change, or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?
And that, of course, is the real reason why Greta Thunberg is so triggering. They can’t admit it even to themselves, so they ridicule her instead. But the truth is that they’re afraid of her. The poor dears are terrified of her as an individual, and of what she stands for – youth, determination, change.

If you record anyone speaking forcefully at 50 frames per second for a number of minutes, or snap hundreds of reactions to what’s going on around them, somewhere in there will be select photos for your hate piece.

Disgust, as in disgusted the cameras moved away from her.:D More than a single frame, that just happens to coincide with him coming into view. Even the BBC took the stance that she was just more than a little bit annoyed.

I think if someone is entering the world of politics then challenging their politics is fair game but there is something very disturbing about the fully grown men attacking the appearance and the autism of a 16 year old girl.

Individals are irrelevant ( but good on Greta I say). Those that have their heads in the sand will use anything to divert from the issue and the facts we all ignore. Still we'll worry about pot holes more, or our next package holiday. We're one of the most selfish generations ever I'm afraid. Previous generations may also have a part, but they didn't know the consequences, we do but we carry on regardless.

Good for raising awareness, but one person won't change it. It's the very structure of society that needs to change. Worldwide.

It does say a lot about the character & personality of the people who attack such a person. These sad but dangerous people do not attempt to disprove what this girl is saying, rather they resort to character assassination.

The only positive thing is that the more they attack her, the more people will realise how small minded and backward looking they are. The planet needs action now, on a global scale and this girl is trying to communicate this message.

I do think that we have reached a point where Climate Change deniers are now is the same category as Flat Earthers. The main difference, however, is that they are a danger to our collective future.

Agreed. A bit like being in charge of a cigarette company in the 1970s when you knew the damsge they caused but still carried on marketing them.

'start eating babies' to solve climate crisis
:eh:
“We’re not going to be here for much longer because of the climate crisis.

“We only have a few months left. I like that you support the green deal but getting rid of fossil fuels is not going to solve the problem fast enough.

“Our Swedish professors are saying that we can eat dead people but that’s not fast enough.

“So I think your next campaign slogan has to be this: we’ve got to start eating babies.
“We don’t have enough time. There’s too much CO2. All of you, you are a pollutant.

“Too much CO2. We have to start now, please. You are so great, I’m so happy that you really support the new green deal but it’s not enough you know.

“Even if we were to bomb Russia we still have too many people, too much pollution.

“So we have to get rid of the babies, that’s a big problem.

“We need to eat babies. This is very serious, please give a response.”

Evening Standard article on original speech, complete with video.
Quote:

A Swedish scientist has suggested eating human flesh to tackle climate change at a Stockholm summit, according to reports.
In the 1973 dystopian film Soylent Green, the world is so overpopulated that dead bodies are sold as food.
But Swedish researcher Magnus Söderlund believes this could be a genuine solution to climate change and asserts we must "awaken the idea" of eating human flesh in the future.
At a summit for food of the future called Gastro Summit, Professor Söderlund held a talk called “Can you Imagine Eating Human Flesh?” where he argued "conservative" taboos against cannibalism should be broken down - the Epoch Times reports.

Viral Video About Eating Babies at AOC Town Hall Was Staged by Pro-Trump Group

LaRouche PAC, a far-right group that supports Donald Trump, has taken credit for trolling Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during a town hall meeting yesterday. An operative with LaRouche made headlines overnight after standing up at AOC’s town hall in Queens yesterday and saying that humanity should eat babies, among other ridiculous things, to address the climate crisis.

Viral video from the incident shows a woman posing as a supporter of AOC and wearing a shirt that reads, “Save the Planet, Eat the Children.” Many people clearly thought she was mentally disturbed, but LaRouche PAC, a fringe organization that believes climate change is a hoax, was behind the stunt, according to the group’s Twitter account.

Greta Thunberg effigy found hanging from Italian bridge

An effigy of climate activist Greta Thunberg has been found strung up and hanging from a bridge in Rome.

Dressed in a yellow poncho, the effigy had Greta's pigtail braids with a sign in English saying "Greta is your God".
