How about less of the petty arguments about "free".
I'm still waiting to see a post confirming the new upload speeds, so how about posting some useful information instead of being bloody pedantic. |

IF that is final then the middle tier and only the middle tier looks enticing unless you're a casual user.

the yearly increases happen do they not with or without upgrades?
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I think theres a feeling that the difference between 150 and 200 doesnt really justify a different tier anymore.
150mb is very enticing now, seems a bit of an oversight. |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Downgrading to 100mb seems like it was the right move after all, pretty tame upgrade but then again its only an extra £20 a year

Vivid does seem like a strange name to give a set of tiers. Unless they are also going to turn it into something more than just fast broadband?
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
If these upgrades are to be believed, I will be saving myself a couple of quid and downgrading to 150Mb. Will stay on the top tier if 300 comes off with a bump to UL as that would be a sufficient e-penis booster to justify the extra expense.

Upgrades are done largely for PR reasons in the UK as Openreach are nowhere to be found as yet. There's little business case in upgrading more than they have to. EDIT: I note a fair few people who do not care about the e-peen have decided 150 is a better choice for their usage. To me the best way if upset by the upgrade would be to either leave VM entirely, although showing upset about being uplifted from 152Mb to 200Mb by going to 76Mb or less would be a little strange, or as is perhaps more practical for most downgrade. |

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Hi guys,
Not been on for a while so hope everyone is well. Just popped by and saw this thread about the speed upgrades. Pretty cool that they are doing 'free' upgrades again and whilst it'll not make much difference to me, an extra 20Mb of bandwidth is a nice little bonus! Can't help but think VM missed a trick with this one though as obviously their lowest tier is now going to be 70Mb. With all this willy waving going on about them being fastest, I'm surprised that they didn't make the bottom tier either 76Mb or 80Mb so they could advertise that all their speeds are equivalent or higher than BT's (and other ISP's) current top speeds. I do agree with everyone on here though that with more and more things becoming cloud based, they need to consider a round of upload speed upgrades as its now getting to the point where the vast majority of customers won't care about download speeds getting any faster than they currently are. |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Virgin media's site currently shows SuperFibre 50, Vivid 100 and Vivid 200, no sign of 70Mb or Vivid 150Mb.
http://i.imgur.com/UzgtOJX.png MyVM has been updated and says I should expect my 200Mb upgrade by the end of November 2015. |

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
We're usually among one of the first areas to get upgraded but not this year, mine say by the end of February.

Well I just logged in and it let me place an order to upgrade (100mbit to 150mbit), for some reason I need an engineer visit (free) booked for next Friday to upgrade my SH1. Not sure how that will affect the hardware trial but we'll see. I'm a little surprised as I usually seem to be in one of the last areas upgraded.

A Superhub 1 should be fast enough for 150mbit, right? Maybe I'll give them a call later and see if I can get the upgrade without router replacement. Seems a bit of a waste if they'll be giving me the SH3 soon after.
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Look out for it between January 2016 and March 2016.
up to 4-6 months away, if no problems hoping to do same done on 152 upgrade, if they can offer new customers this new 200mb , say your street, postcode ect call and ask, no reason why they cant put u on it. |

Haha I might have been a bit premature earlier on. No matter how many speed tests I do, they all are in the range of 168, which is a strange number.
How do you find out on the superhub what the maximum downstream is, I`ve forgotten where its located? |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
saw martin dee had upgrade, we use uddi area.
just called them, 200mb is available, wife on v staff, was told would need to PAY £18 extra a month for it, till free upgrade. what a rip off. any neighbor can order it today & get the 200mb, soon as installed, what a load of greedy **** :( |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I can do the upgrade now, but as we have a Superhub 1 we need an "engineer" to come out and swap the Superhub.
That's really inconvenient, and I'm part of the new Hardware trial so I'm hoping that this problem will just go away... |

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I live in an area that's had high utilisation for a year now (typically 1.5 to 12Mbps from my 152Mbps connection at peak times). Somehow the speed upgrade is available now. Congestion issues are about to get a whole lot worse for me...

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Says they're working on it in my area and will be in touch at the end of November.
Having noticed that the evening hump has gone on the BB monitor suggests they've addressed congestion issues. |
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Look out for it between January 2016 and March 2016...might consider the downgrade to 150 if it saves £7.50 a month a 50mb upgrade doesn't seem worth it
|

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Look out for it between January 2016 and March 2016. :( London area SE17 ( Area 21 ). Tho to be honest its just a PR stunt really. I would like if they pushed up the upload speeds or removed the upload traffic management. When I do streaming, Twitch/voice chat etc. Always seems to hit the traffic management.
|
Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I find it hard to believe they say 90% on people will be able to get the new speeds by the end of 2015 judging by all the posts here from different parts of the country!

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
You have to wonder why they bother with schedules when they just hand the uplifts out to anyone who calls in :)
Be way more sensible if they ask for your postcode before they tell you what speeds you can buy as a new customer, and not release uplifted tiers to new or existing customers in areas with issues. |

As I said, no such standard process or scheme exists to do that. Even if its done as a one off, then manual credits because you're leaving are extremely rare. Exception credits are part of the process to agree that you'll stay.
