Yes, I know that Top Gear was supposed to be a car show, but I don't think most of it's fanbase watched it for the cars. They watched it to see three middle aged men do increasingly stupid things. Remember as a proper car show, it lost enough viewers that it was axed. Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Top Gear going back to being a car show, I just don't think it will survive. |

Yeah, not shocked that James May would consider returning. He always struck me as the two faced one of the lot of them. That is what a lot of people like about Clarkson, he doesn't hold back from saying what he thinks.

He will be doing two different presenting roles and also producing TG. So surely thats fair for three jobs? |
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
I'm not sure Lineker's worth that much - would the viewing figures drop if someone else was hosting the show? I doubt it very much. At least TG brings home the bacon.

I was listening and he said that there will be "Female involvement", be it a co-presenter, driver or contributor. I personally think there will be a woman involved as a co-presenter (Suzi Perry being my personal choice as not only a petrolhead but someone who knows motorsports very well and has great connections in that field) and there's nothing wrong with that. |

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
My own personal preference out of Suzy Perry and Jodie Kidd. Not knocking Suzy at all, but while I know she is a petrol head and knows her stuff regarding motor racing, I find her style of presenting grates slightly. I prefer Jodie Kidd because she is also a massive petrol head, actually races cars (as well as going to various formula 1 races) and I find her more entertaining.
I've also seen her handle the kind of laddish banter Top Gear is known for brilliantly, should they wish to go down that route again. |
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
Sabine Schmitz?
|
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
Was trying to think of her name. She'd be brilliant as well.

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
Sabine Schmitz would be good.. Here is some video of her driving a nervous looking Hammond around the Nurburgring in a Transit and also trying to beat the time Jeremy set when he drove around in an S-type. She gets bloody close. A brilliant attempt, considering how much larger and how much less powerful the transit is.

We could have Bruce Forsyth do a few, You have the entertainment value of NICE TO SEE U TO SEE U NICE!!, he can review cars for the older folk and also he can entertain in traffic jams around London.

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
I thought he said on The One show last night the co-hosts will be 2 members of the viewing public, who must show they are car nuts, and a mechanic would be a good change.
Which implies the planet wide treks are still on. I've been winding up work saying I've applied, all I need is a Lotto win so I can quit saying I got the job :D |
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
A short list is being compiled for a replacement for Mr. Hammond.

The last ever Top Gear will be shown tonight. (I now it carrying on but the show has in my eyes ended)
It is expected to be the biggest viewed ever. I only hope the trio don't go to Netflix, as I won't buy a subscription for one program. |
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
Hammond and Clarkson both say they won't watch it as they feel the final editing was rubbish.

I noticed the elephant right away lol.
However I also noticed that it was not the usual studio, but a smaller room with as many of their 'props' squeezed in. Hammond and May also didn't look to happy or comfortable at all. |
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
B-b-but the format was getting really tired...
There's only so many fourth form jokes you can do before things get stale. Don't get me wrong, I think they did ok for a long while but it all became a bit of a yawn. The show needs a nice bit of crumpet on it to keep me awake. |

There was the overweight, overpaid punchy one who was ignorant to just about everyone; the little one for all the 'I'm little' jokes (gawd) and the other one who 'was-his-own-man-and-did-things-his-way-no-matter-what-the -others-thought-of-him' (yawn). Do they all still live with their mums? It was a very tired show. Like Eastenders or Coronation Street. Why do the British public like to make institutions out of things? Change is good. Go ginger! |

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
I think in the last episode they should just have revealed who the stig actually was.
|
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
Top Gear had become stale. Yes it was still attracting big audiences for BBC2. Yes it had become a worldwide cash cow.
This final episode showed how the presenters and producers were struggling to come up with any fresh ideas and ultimately were a parody of themselves. For me Top Gear had stopped being must see TV. It was recorded on the TiVo and inevitably much of it was watched fast forward. BBC now have an opportunity to refresh Top Gear. Clarkson, Hammond and May, along with the defecting production team have the opportunity to re-invent themselves and tout their new production to alternative TV companies. |

It'll certainly be interesting to see how well (or badly) the new version will fare against the old crew doing their thing.
|
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
There are some certainties:
1. Everyone, despite what they say, will tune in to see the new format; 2. Before the intro finishes, there will be much grinding of teeth and much further lament about Jezzexit; 3. The new show will feature cars more than the old show featured has-been personalities. :D |
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
I just watched the last episode (downloaded from iPlayer to watch on the plane).
It was fun, but my life won't end if Jezza et al don't make any more.. |

A tenner? On a Top Gear bet? I wouldn't bet a penny on anything on the telly. But I like your style and will make a donation to my favourite children's charity to respect your challenge regardless of viewing figures.
I'll even make sure to give a tenner more than usual - it's a charity very close to my heart. |

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
Sky seem to have had the same attitude as the BBC: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s265/...poRBTxeOOGvine
It's probably right. I wonder who actually was bidding for them to force Amazon to pay so much? ITV and Sky seem to have had no interest at all due to the reason he/they were dropped in the first place. I assume it was Netflix who pulled out because of the cost which suggests there was a price at which they would have considered it. |
Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday
Well that's what they are saying now. Bet theey did bid and lost.

Sky's primary job has been siphoning money from those obsessed with watching 22 blokes kick a football in ever increasing amounts and handing that cash to clubs to fund obscene wage bills and transfer fees, an enterprise in which they've been joined by our biggest telecomms provider. The secondary one being using their financial clout to monopolise as much of other sports as possible. The tertiary one using said financial clout to monopolise other TV and movies. They've no ideals but know how to extract money from people - which is why our pay TV is among the most expensive in the world. |
