No, out with the old and in with the new. Too much British TV just goes on and on and on - someone ought to have refreshed this show ages ago.

Well it seems over on the Top Gear forums the selection of the new host has not gone down well. Time will tell but i will have to read about it as i have no intention of watching Chris Evans make a mess of it.

I only watched top gear because of Clarkson, Hammond and May. It was the interaction between them. I can't stand Evans

I'm almost hoping Chris Evans won't turn it into an actual car show.

Yes, I know that Top Gear was supposed to be a car show, but I don't think most of it's fanbase watched it for the cars. They watched it to see three middle aged men do increasingly stupid things. Remember as a proper car show, it lost enough viewers that it was axed.

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against Top Gear going back to being a car show, I just don't think it will survive.

Yeah, not shocked that James May would consider returning. He always struck me as the two faced one of the lot of them. That is what a lot of people like about Clarkson, he doesn't hold back from saying what he thinks.

How is it?

He will be doing two different presenting roles and also producing TG. So surely thats fair for three jobs?

I'm not sure Lineker's worth that much - would the viewing figures drop if someone else was hosting the show? I doubt it very much. At least TG brings home the bacon.

Quelle surprise.

No, he didn't say that at all.

I was listening and he said that there will be "Female involvement", be it a co-presenter, driver or contributor.

I personally think there will be a woman involved as a co-presenter (Suzi Perry being my personal choice as not only a petrolhead but someone who knows motorsports very well and has great connections in that field) and there's nothing wrong with that.

My own personal preference out of Suzy Perry and Jodie Kidd. Not knocking Suzy at all, but while I know she is a petrol head and knows her stuff regarding motor racing, I find her style of presenting grates slightly. I prefer Jodie Kidd because she is also a massive petrol head, actually races cars (as well as going to various formula 1 races) and I find her more entertaining.

I've also seen her handle the kind of laddish banter Top Gear is known for brilliantly, should they wish to go down that route again.

Well, the Guardian are talking nonsense then. Evans even said himself that the Newspaper reports of open auditions for co-presenters wasn't accurate either.

As always, don't believe what you read unless if it is from the horses mouth. of course, as Evans has shown himself, don't always believe that either.

Sabine Schmitz would be good.. Here is some video of her driving a nervous looking Hammond around the Nurburgring in a Transit and also trying to beat the time Jeremy set when he drove around in an S-type. She gets bloody close. A brilliant attempt, considering how much larger and how much less powerful the transit is.

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday

Quote:

JEREMY Clarkson revealed yesterday that he ruled out a sensational return to Top Gear after “someone from the BBC” compared him to paedophile DJ Jimmy Savile.

The sacked presenter, 55, said he was asked by a senior executive at the Corporation about a comeback on the motor show.

But he declined the offer and says “too much has gone on” — including the comparison to late pervert Savile, who hosted Beeb hit Top of the Pops.

Speaking days after bosses handed his old job to Chris Evans, Clarkson — who now plans a rival car programme — said: “I had a meeting with a BBC executive last week and they asked if I’d come back to Top Gear.

“But it was never an option, even with the one million people signing the Bring Back Clarkson petition — for which I was extremely humbled.

“Too much has gone on. After I’d been compared to Jimmy Savile by someone from the BBC and it was splashed all over a Sunday newspaper, how could I go back?
Quote:

Clarkson met the unnamed BBC exec last Friday — around the time Evans was talking to Beeb entertainment boss Mark Linsey.

It is understood Clarkson would have rejoined sidekicks James May and Richard Hammond on Top Gear had he agreed to a return.
Paywall linky But I've quoted the salient parts for those without access.

Seems the Beeb had looked at the loss of £millions and wanted them all back.

There's only so many fourth form jokes you can do before things get stale. Don't get me wrong, I think they did ok for a long while but it all became a bit of a yawn.

The show needs a nice bit of crumpet on it to keep me awake.

I'm not knocking your preferences but for many like me the show had become boring.

There was the overweight, overpaid punchy one who was ignorant to just about everyone; the little one for all the 'I'm little' jokes (gawd) and the other one who 'was-his-own-man-and-did-things-his-way-no-matter-what-the -others-thought-of-him' (yawn). Do they all still live with their mums?

It was a very tired show. Like Eastenders or Coronation Street. Why do the British public like to make institutions out of things?

Change is good. Go ginger!

As far as top gear goes my feelings are they will run it for a season. At first it will get high viewing numbers whilst people check it out. Then the decline in to nothingness will start because they cannot make it work.

Cannot wait to see who has signed Clarkson Hammond and May for the real fun car show ;)

Re: Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday

Top Gear had become stale. Yes it was still attracting big audiences for BBC2. Yes it had become a worldwide cash cow.

This final episode showed how the presenters and producers were struggling to come up with any fresh ideas and ultimately were a parody of themselves. For me Top Gear had stopped being must see TV. It was recorded on the TiVo and inevitably much of it was watched fast forward.

BBC now have an opportunity to refresh Top Gear.

Clarkson, Hammond and May, along with the defecting production team have the opportunity to re-invent themselves and tout their new production to alternative TV companies.

Looks like the beebs lawyers slipped up:

Quote:

The spanner thrown in the works of Jeremy Clarkson’s plans to take a Top Gear-style show to ITV could be successfully removed after lawyers for the petrolhead presenter claimed to have found a way out of attempts by the BBC to stop him working for competitors until 2017.

It is understood that a clause in Clarkson’s BBC contract stops him and his co-presenters James May and Richard Hammond from working for a rival terrestrial British broadcaster for at least the next two years.

However, Clarkson is reportedly trying to get around the contractual ban by making a new show in America – and then selling the programme to other broadcasters worldwide including ITV.

I suppose it depends on cost, and what else there is to watch.

I will now get Amazon Prime, I can justify it because I use Amazon for online shopping.

Yes they certainly did pay over the odds that's for sure but if it gets them quite a few new subscribers they will see it as money well spent.

Plenty of people have been condemning what the Beeb paid Clarkson and his chums, do we know what they're going to be shelling out for Evans and Co.?

Sky seem to have had the same attitude as the BBC: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s265/...poRBTxeOOGvine

It's probably right. I wonder who actually was bidding for them to force Amazon to pay so much? ITV and Sky seem to have had no interest at all due to the reason he/they were dropped in the first place. I assume it was Netflix who pulled out because of the cost which suggests there was a price at which they would have considered it.

Well that's what they are saying now. Bet theey did bid and lost.

How much you betting? Sky said from day 1 they wouldn't be signing him, I assumed it was because they'd blown all their cash on football but it could be they just have higher ideals than I'd credited them for

I can only imagine how low the ideals you credited them with must have been for you to think they could have higher ones.

Sky's primary job has been siphoning money from those obsessed with watching 22 blokes kick a football in ever increasing amounts and handing that cash to clubs to fund obscene wage bills and transfer fees, an enterprise in which they've been joined by our biggest telecomms provider.

The secondary one being using their financial clout to monopolise as much of other sports as possible.

The tertiary one using said financial clout to monopolise other TV and movies.

They've no ideals but know how to extract money from people - which is why our pay TV is among the most expensive in the world.

Well with rumours about Jenson Button's F1 future being decided as early as this weekend Japanese GP, and talks of retirement.

A Top Gear move could be on the cards.

I'm currently watching Have I Got More News For You.

JC is hosting it, and Pointless's Richard Osman is being a bell end to JC, even Camilla Long notices it.

I thought Clarkson got off quite easily too be honest. HIGNFY can be savage when they want to be.

More trouble at 't BBC mill:

Quote:

TOP Gear new boy Chris Evans fears the show’s global appeal could be harmed — because he is not famous enough.

The Radio 2 star may be a household name in the UK but he has admitted he is “not really internationally known”.

Now he is desperate to book superstars to come on the programme and boost its profile — with American actors, singers and sports personalities top of his list.

He has even promised to give them a “low-risk interview” and not ask awkward questions about affairs or scandals if they agree to appear in the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car segment.

Not really sure it's new trouble. They would have known Evans wasn't as big as Clarkson, they can't replicate the former show.

That's it. The original Top gear followed Tiff over to channel 5 and was just as bad there. Clarkson's top gear won't change a bit on Amazon and I think Evans will drum out heavy viewers in the first weeks and fall apart after that before being axed completely. I think everyone's intrigued to see how Evans will do this and what style of show the new top gear is going to be. Again though, I can't see past it ever being as good as Clarkson's show.
