White Collar series 1 aired on Bravo before sky dropped the channel. Also Hawaii 5-O was supposed to air on Bravo Originally but ended up on Sky 1 instead because of the closure of Bravo in 2011.

Let me explain something - Sky have offered Atlantic at a reasonable price - Tight fiested pay the amount which could be reasonable.

VM won't have BT Sports.

Customers are crying out for these channels - VM just want these channels on the cheap, then ripp off tghe customers with a higher price to make money.

It might be a price that Sky thinks is reasonable, however VM customers might baulk that the price rise required to pay for it

Again, BT might think the price is reasonable but again VM customers may baulk at the price, how many people here would pay £15 a month for the BT Sports channels on top of their current packages?

It all depends how stubborn BT are and how long they are prepared to have their shows watched by not very many people.

Clare Baldings 'flagship' sports show last night got an average of 1000 viewers.

We'll have to see how the PL matches pan out for them.

Would be nice to be offered the chance to baulk or not to baulk at it :( Would it have been so difficult for them to canvas Virginmedia subscribers to assess what we would be willing to pay and take that to the never ending saga that is the Virgin v absolutely everybody negotiating table?

I kind of believe them as much as I believe VM customer service, they are there to provide propaganda to their own stables.

I do believe it will come unlike SA, the content themselves (PL, Rugby) will not be too chuff they are being used as a political weapon in broadband, their interest is to be seen by many people as possible

This is different to sky SA where content provider HBO Would like this as creates interest to buy directly from them I.e. blu ray and DVD, ask yourself this are you more likely to get GoT box set because you heard its good or copy of a 2-0 game that was on saturday afternoon. I love my sport but I bought season 1&2 of GoT as it was the only way I coud see it and I don't regret and I'm sure HBO are happy I got it this way as well.

I know this creates the debate of who wants what but if we look from the other spectrum in terms of provide of content as above who got more to lose?

That's why I believe BT (or at least the option to obtain )will be there before start of both rugby and PL

I disagree about
"the content themselves (PL, Rugby) will not be too chuff they are being used as a political weapon in broadband, their interest is to be seen by many people as possible"
If that was their intention, they would not have sold to the highest bidder. they could easily have chosen a lower price, if more people were guaranteed to see their product.

But, they were shouting "show us the MONEY!, showwww us the MONEYYY!"
:D

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

True Colin25 I cannot dispute the higher amount but would they realise that viewers via VM and Youview would now have disruption to premier league watching because of BT bidding. I guess it would be in the contracts I don't know just my feeling this was a bid to broadcast not for exclusivity of selected platforms

Maybe a lesson learned from them that as part of invitation to bid for rights they must allow all people the opportunity to view (e.g. Subscription) regardless of platform they use

yes, if that is their intention. Though it might affect the price.

They would get an order of magnitude less at tender if it was a condition to make it available to everyone. Why would any company bid? They would make almost nothing.

:DOk I hold my hands up I even searched on Wikipedia order of magnitude and I dont get it could that be explained please, genuine really sorry i must be thick :D

I can't see how making it available to all would make less than say what they got now, they still got incentive of its free with BT broadband and will get customers taking up that way and be £££ and then gain watches of channel by other platform.

The only reason the bids are so high because we got a stupid rule stating no one broadcaster can have all rights which is suppose to drive monopoly and costs down not create them

Aaah I went to simple Wikipedia and I think I understood your point. I don't necessarily agree but respect your point so happy to agree to disagree

I'd imagine that if the sporting bodies involved were that concerned about viewing figures they'd just make the contracts available to the FTA broadcasters ie BBC , ITV , C4 etc let's not forget the Premiership highlights can still be seen FTA later the same night. The whole bidding process is about one thing and one thing only MONEY.

Probably not. SKY 1 has been called SKY 1 since 1989, a good 7 years before SKY launched SKY 2.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

Thing is, BT are using the channel to bring in broadband subscribers. If they didn't have that arm of the business they would be up s*** creek without a paddle.

Sky Sports are available with a quick phone call to over 15 million people. 15 million people who already very likely have card details attached to their account and no need to fill in name, address etc. (not counting TalkTalk and BT Vision subscribers, or the ease of accessing it via Now TV albeit at rip off rates)

BT is not that easy to get access too. If you check the Sky forums there are so many people who don't have a clue how to access it and when they do find out they don't want to pay for it via a 3rd party, they want it all in one. Plus the 4 million who currently can't pay their premiums to access it without getting a new box to hook up to a dish, or switching to a different provider.

Unfortunately people don't want BTs TV offering, especially if they are used to Sky/BT as it is in effect a spruced up Freeview. BT will make a hell of a loss on these channels, and it's quite clear that the 500,000 people who have gained access to it (by paying or by being through BT Broadband) are not actually watching it, 1000viewers for a sports show with a high profile name as host.

Apparently next year, everyone will have too pay and it won't be with BT Broadband. Currently only 23,000 people think it's worth paying for, if I was a shareholder, I wouldn't be happy.

The article clearly states they sent online surveys out to customers, it was not on their website. I did not get an invite to take part in this survey, but it would be interesting find out if that survey ever happened and to hear the results of that survey (if it happened obviously)!
Any of you fine people with the CEO'S e-mail interested in asking whether the alledged survey actually happened, and if it did, what the results were? (if not can someone post his e-mail address, so I send it)
Not fussed about the channels myself, but it would be interesting to see what people outside of this forum think on the matter:)

There was an online discussion from VM about it and I was sure that there was pricing questions involved but for the life of me I can't find it. I can find the discussions but not the question of pricing.

It would depend if the shareholders were more interested in the BB take-up, if so, they would probably be somewhat happier. Equally the shareholders must surely be aware that if you offer struggling families something for "free" or a monthly cost of £12/£15 a month, the majority of people will take the "free" option.
I would also think that die-hard football and rugby fans will pay for it next year, as they did with ESPN.
If I were a share holder though, I would be happy to take small amount of money from VM's reasonably large customer base, rather than a larger amount of nothing from none of VM's customer base. :)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 4.

My view is that we wont get BT Sports at all and Virgin are just not saying anything in the hope that people wont jump ship next week when the football starts as they can get it on Sky sports channels anyway via Virgin.

if it does and that is a big if then BT will have to redo all there ads that they have made for TV with the ones saying about sky only.

i do think that no talks have taken place this week and nothing will happen and we will lose out on BT sports.

VM must know by now if they will get it after all they have had months to come to a deal.

Cheers, will try to hunt for the discussions:)

if it does and that is a big if then BT will have to redo all there ads that they have made for TV with the ones saying about sky only.

i do think that no talks have taken place this week and nothing will happen and we will lose out on BT sports.

VM must know by now if they will get it after all they have had months to come to a deal.

I tend to agree.

If BT are in this for the long game, they would look for anyone thinking of going to Virgin for broadband, to say they will offer you free sports with their service.

Will it erode Virgin's base customers? I suspect some will go, though some are so anti-BT /love Virgin regardless that they will never switch (NEVER NEVER NEVER) :D

It's not the case of a love for Virgin, it's more the case of I'm not paying what I've been quoted as the same amount for a less than 20mb broadband service (with estimated speeds of less than 1.5mb). ADSL just cannot provide the speeds I need. Until Infinity is in my area, I won't consider them, and they have already said there is no plans. I also stick with virgin for the TV as Sky cannot offer a good price due to the amount of additional boxes we have, which when we tried to order Sky cancelled out any half price offers due to the offer not applying with that 3 additional boxes (plus the boxes being £10 extra each rather than £6.50)

BT are in it for the long run but apparently from July 2014 they will stop receiving it free regardless of what broadband package they are on, will people be willing to pay?

Once is enough dear ;) and its not a question of being anti BT or Sky anything but why swap a Rolls Royce broadband for something that's is spluttering along on the motorway at 5 miles a hour all the time and yes there is no doubt Sky has its strengths but for a overall package Virgin is both cheaper and better for many people still.:)

I found this on the guardian website
"
BT says it has no plans to charge for sports next season, but the free HD offer will end after a year. After that, customers who want to continue with HD will pay £3 a month. The company has Premier League football rights for three years and the rugby rights for four years."

So, yes, you are nearly right, will BT customers pay for the extra HD charge. i will. :D

I have no reason to think it didn't happen. They would only need to survey 1000 customers to get representative results, so the chance of any one customer getting the survey is very low.

Here's a report of a similar survey
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/35...-post2693.html

The results would be confidential.

From VM forums - i think if statement is accurate just shows why VM fail to get BT and Sky Atlantic - the arrogance that it is somehow a privilege for these companies to have their channels on VMs platform! VM need to learn their place at the table - they are the supporting cast not the lead role!

From VM Forum -
"Hi just to update you about where we are with BT Sport, we're still actively talking to BT to see if they’d like to join our Premier League line-up. We know how important this is to you all and as soon we have any news from the negotiations we'll post it here, on Twitter @virginmedia and on http://www.virginmedia.com/btsport."

My nearest package with VM would actually cost me more so who's cheapest clearly depends on your requirements , as for BB my experience of VM was one better forgot although to balance that my parents get a near flawless service.

If it doesn't come, then i would find the comments from customer services as deliberately misleading.

I have often thought that Sky must have intended on naming their channels numerically, but the takeover of BSB and their thematically named channels changed their way of thinking.

I would also think that die-hard football and rugby fans will pay for it next year, as they did with ESPN.
If I were a share holder though, I would be happy to take small amount of money from VM's reasonably large customer base, rather than a larger amount of nothing from none of VM's customer base. :)

Absolutely.

It isn't just the financial side either. I personally aren't bothered about watching BT Sport, but many people are.

I know many lads/men that aren't just into football or class themselves as fans. They live and breathe it, it's their life and it's as if they need football to survive.

Interesting post on Facebook
I just had a chat with a woman in the disconnection dept as I was disconnecting my services , now this didnt come from me (wink wink ) but she stated that on tuesday just gone they tested all 4 of the bt sports channels sd &hd on the virgin platform so they knew that they would work and they dis and are hoping to switch on by next sat ( just repeating what I heard so dont hold me to.it )

This was kind of implied to me when I was contacted by the ceo's office but I promised not to shout about it,now others are saying it I feel I can.
This along with a excellent discount was the reason I stayed also expect to see the hd channels that are missing that are shown in Ireland soon and dare I say it.?????
Sky Atlantic in autum, none of this is guaranteed but it was certainly implied that all of these things could expected to happen.
AGAIN NOT CONFIRMED but hopefully the great MB will confirm in future posts
