Carroll would lower his wage demands and join Newcastle should they have a bid accepted, which they wont as they aren't interested in paying a penny over £10 million for him, makes me laugh the bit about lowering wage demands but asking West Ham for £100,000 a week. Pure Greed.

Based on the current record transfer fee. There's also quite a few better than Bale. I hope Southampton have some sort of sell-on clause. http://www.nufc.com/2012-13images/sj...ter-view-s.jpg Newcastle are re-seeing the pitch and also painting over Sports Direct... can only mean bad things! |

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
I don't see why people would say Ferguson is the best. He has continuously spent the highest amounts of money, breaking the british transfer record on numerous occasions and in the 90's didn't have any real competition. Blackburn made 1 investment but didn't sustain it for long enough to challenge properly. Arsenal under Wenger challenged him and won 3 titles against United in the space of 7 years with United winning 4 in that time, including a run of 3 in a row.
The only genuine challenge to United's dominance was Chelsea who were the first side to compete with United in the market. (Arsenal challenged United without matching their financial power which makes their victories even more impressive - as well as the style). Now City have the money, it is not just Chelsea who United have to compete with in the market. Ferguson knows he should have retired before last season, realised he made a mistake, and was desperate to win it this season, so he could retire having won. If he'd lost this season, he would not have retired. But Ferguson throughout his time had the top dollar. Arguably all teams who have dominated for long periods (Liverpool) have always spent big and that is true. But I put forward Brian Clough for the best manager ever. It was a different era where it was possible to come up from division 2 one year and challenge for the title the next. But back to back European Cups with Forest was a fantastic achievement. Yes he spent, but everyone has done. But what makes Clough stand out above Ferguson, is that he didn't tolerate any abuse of the referee. Ferguson has bullied the referees to the point where it became obvious that they dare not disobey him. Freakish runs without conceding penalties at Old Trafford, and runs of Ferdinand not conceding free-kicks and rooney not receiving bookings. Ferguson has bullied the press to the point where they licked his arse for fear of falling foul of him. Rant over. |

In that case, we will have to see how this season pans out. But even, for eg. Pellegrini who many abroad say is a great coach, if he wins it this year will never be recognised because people will say he had the money. How much is it the money and how much the coach? Mancini was snubbed for manager of the year last season in favour of Pardew. |
Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
I think your mistaken of what we're talking about. The comments are about the best manager in the league right now not of all time.
btw I've always said Pellegrini is a great and I'm not abroad :p: How did Mancini deserve manager of the year 2011/2012 lol he gave up at the end, it was the medias push that fired City up, the backlash of Mancini saying the titles gone, Mancinis not celebrating until it become clear City could actually do it etc etc. what a joke. Pardew deserved the award on limited resources. Look up how much Newcastles wage spend was 11/12 and how much they spent on transfers. ---------- Post added at 16:37 ---------- Previous post was at 15:09 ---------- Quote:

Newcastle spent £25m on transfer fees and their wage bill was £64.1m as a result of these aquisitions which is only behind City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Aston Villa. Therefore, it would be sensible to argue Newcastle over performed by finishing 1 point ahead of Chelsea. But in the same breath, Chelsea and more so Liverpool significantly underperformed in the league to the extent where Newcastle finished about where they should. What can be said without doubt is that this seasons 16th place just 5 points above the relegation zone was a disgraceful underachievement. |
Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
I've never rated him as a manager but i do feel sorry for him. Unlike other countries at the tournament there are a fair few U21 players not there for England because they have been involved with the main squad and/or injured. Obviously they are the 'better' players as well, because they have been called up to the main squad.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window
Let's end this argument with fact's shall we.
Alex Ferguson transfer spend over 26 years: £546.5m Total Recouped: £320.0m Total spent with above factored in @ £226.5m 13 PremierLeague Titles. 5 FA Cup's 4 League cup's 2 Champions League's 1 Super cup 1 Uefa cup winner's cup 1 Club world cup. Manager of the season x11 Manager of the decade x1 plenty other trophies. and about 50 other awards under Manchester United. Roberto Mancini in 4 years. Spent: £285m Recouped: 0m. Net: £285m 1 x Premier League 1 x FA CUP 1 x Community Shield. An absolutely shocking amount to spend with minimal return from it. Only to then publicly say he wanted to sign more players... Mancini deserved what he got at the end of the day. Sir Alex Ferguson is undoubtedly the greatest manager of all time by far in my opinion. He may indeed have had big money but he spent it a lot wiser than any other manager out there. The idea that money leads to greatness argument is old and stale now, Freddy Shepherd nearly destroyed Newcastle United by buying players that were highly rated but then flopped in the English League. Liverpool have spent massively in the past 3 years and have nothing to show for it in terms of League Standing. |

It is of course a distortion to ignore the effects of inflation. For example, the British transfer record £3.75m in 1993 would equate to a lot more in today's money. Rooney, at the time dubbed the new Gascoigne would cost more than £25m today. Rio Ferdinand was £30m in 2001. But that is your wont. As for an objective view: City and United finished level on points in 11/12. United strengthened their squad. City lost De Jong, Adam Johnson, and Balotelli (for 2nd half of season) Signings: Garcia, Maicon, Sinclair, Rodwell. That transfer activity weakened City's team. Obvious conclusion = Utd win the title. BTW, net spend last season was barely £10m |
