Sky news are reporting

SPL voted "unanimously"

So the old Rangers voted against the new Rangers getting into the SPL:confused: even though the administrator's proxy was the new owner

I think the SPL votes 9 to 3 or even 10 to 2 against new-co Rangers

Vote for new-co Rangers:

old Rangers
Kilmarnock
Celtic or ST. Mirren (maybe)

They've changed it now to "overwhelmingly" rejected. Sky Reporting it as

Yes - 1

Why don't you come up with a formula which is better than Fifa's?

Some one set up a ranking system based on the Elo method. England are currently ranked 5th. Guess they know nothing about football either.
http://www.eloratings.net/world.html

The fact is the rankings take account of all matches played, not just in major finals. They also look at consistency (FIFA is last 4 years, Elo is last 30 matches). So by the virtue of England constantly qualifying for major tournaments and getting out of the groups in these tournaments then yes they will be high up in the rankings.

RVP won't be signing an extension to his contract.

Damien 04-07-2012 20:09

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Very disappointed in Van Persie.

If he wanted to leave then fine but he has made sure he has done it in a way that makes it difficult to hold him to the final year of his contract. It would be difficult to have him stay after this statement. He has done it to try and force a move and do it in away to ensure little money as possible to the club that supported him all these years.

He talks about ambition. The transfer window is in it's early days and yet we've signed two quality towards already. We're in the market for a another midfielder. It's just a cynical ploy to get the fans on board and none of us are buying it. He wants a big pay day, that is all. He is entitled to that if he wants it but like Nasri before him he in ensuring that he screws over Arsenal at the same time.

Arsenal didn't know he was releasing this statement. Horrible way to treat the club and manager who stuck by him all those seasons where is hardly played a game due to injury, Wenger stuck by him all the time and he turns around and does this to him.

Sell him, let's move on.

MalteseFalcon 04-07-2012 20:23

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

If I was Arsenal I would sell him this summer, or even in January. Get something for him, rather than let him leave on a Bosman. Can't say I'm shocked though.

Err he has already purchased two forwards and we're still looking at more. You can't do a overhaul in a month. RVP is going and using what he can as an excuse. This isn't about Wenger.

thenry 04-07-2012 21:08

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

your sure? because unless a player asks to leave Wenger hasnt been ruthless in an overhaul. the last player was Eboue and that was after years of hit and miss then a complete mess with the player being abused. why because Wenger insists on it. hes the reason why players get abused. look at Ramsey. Annoyed, put under too much pressure. Wengers fixated on something and the board love it.

the silly thing is we have assets in players not needed even if we sell at 5 odd mil each. that could add to current funds to really put a strong squad together but no. watch Wenger stick with Santos then see the same thing that happened to Eboue happen to him.

Empty seats next season unless Wenger pulls his finger out.

Damien 04-07-2012 21:11

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

We're clearly trying to shift a lot of players but teams need to want to buy, we've been proactive in signing two quality players already, these are all positive signs. The Euros have only just finished after all.

Nope. Dundee didn't have a vote as they're not in the SPL.

Kilmarnock's chairman abstained despite the an overwhelming majority of Killie fans urging him to vote no.

Dundee are claiming that they've been told they can't vote in the SFL vote next week.

The assumption, perhaps, is that they'll now be invited to be the 12th SPL club.

Yes, not one of the wisest moves on the part of the Killie Chairman. They're somewhere in the region of £8 - £10 million in debt so publicly stated that if the new Club weren't in the SPL Kilmarnock could go into administration. It's been obvious for sometime that that scenario was a non-starter. As you say, why'd he do that?.... ****ing off the one assured revenue stream you've got is probably not the sort of business model to be copied.

it now depends on if the league clubs want Rangers in league one or if they drop to the third division.

I do feel with over £100m in debt they shouldn't be wound up and then start again in the SPL that just doesn't seem right to me.

Servco Scotland, the name of Charles Green's consortium, aren't actually a football club at the moment. There has to be some rule bending/ changing for there to be football at Ibrox at all next season.

Firstly- they have to get an SFA licence. That's been applied for but the conditions of acceptance include inheriting some of the sanctions of the Club formerly known as Rangers (responsibility for football debts and the outcome of the dual contract investigation being 2 notables).
Secondly- they have to have 3 years of audited accounts. A bit difficult for a company that is only a couple of months old.
Thirdly - They're still skint.

LexDiamond 05-07-2012 08:33

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

RVP must be kidding himself. The vision for AFC was exactly the same the last time he signed a contract. Except that the last time he signed a contract he was an injury plagued player that had made little contribution to AFC for years. Now he is a superstar and we aren't good enough for him anymore.

There are only three things certain in life. Death, taxes and the fact Wenger knows how to always have a superstar striker in his squad. Good luck RVP but you're no Fabregas - you will easily be replaced and soon forgotten......

It's better than last time. We've signed two quality strikers, one before the window even opened, and we're not finished yet. He just wants to leave and is trying to blame the club.

Actually yes I completely agree. We are much better than last time. Not just this summer but also last. After the joke that was the Fab/Nasri saga we did actaully emerge with two very good player - Per & Mikel plus Ox was a solid signing.

MalteseFalcon 05-07-2012 10:15

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Not sure if I said it here already, but if I was Arsenal I would look to sell him this summer and get something for him, instead of him running down the contract and leaving on a Bosman. Any money for him would help Arsenal, I actually think he has made the right decision in leaving. No trophies since 2005, and he has every right to want success. Arsenal seem to be in a position of taking 2 steps forward then 5 back at the moment. Hopefully next season, they can build on their third place finish.

Not as good as last season no. However they are good and there are two of them, we were too dependent on Van Persie last season, and now they can share the load. I still think he need one more striker to replace RVP but we'll see.

For the first time ever I'd be jealous of Arsenal if they get Lloris. I've been a massive fan of his for years and always wished United would have brought him in. In the right team I reckon he could be the next Schmeichel.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Arsenal simply won't. It's a nonsense. We're not going to pay £15 million or so for another 1st choice keeper, we'ld have to sell Scezesney since he won't want to sit on the bench....

Usmanov criticises Arsenal board:
Quote:

"In our view it is clear you are trying to distract attention from the more fundamental issues facing the club," he writes. "These are the financial model, the lack of investment and club's future strategic direction."
The letter suggests the "real conflict is between the supporters' expectations and your visions for the club".
"Mr Kroenke was sold a vision by the board at a time when the club could be successful without further investment," it reads.
"As a consequence of this policy, which is dressed up as prudent financial planning, it is down to our manager and not the shareholders, to have to deal with the club's tight finances, carry the burden of repaying the stadium debt by selling his best players and having to continue to find cheaper replacements.
"This policy is leading to the loss of our best players, often to main competitors, and even causes the players themselves to question their future at the club and the club's ambitions.
"The situation with Robin van Persie sums this up."

Not according to Usmanov, he is placing the blaming squarely on the board and say they are inhibiting Wenger who he calls 'our great manager'. I don't we know exactly the extent to which Wenger controls the budget and transfer in the club, it's all a bit smoke and mirrors. It seems people blame Wenger if they want to blame Wenger or blame the board if they want to blame the board.

I don't like Usmanov, I don't trust him, and I think this is a power play to stick the knife into the club after the RVP issue. So I am wary of this so-called 'leak'. The truth is Arsenal aren't City or Chelsea and we have limitations. So when they speak of ambition when we've already got two strikers and we're still shopping for more players then I really don't know what RVP wants, whatever it is we can't provide it. Titles? Always going to be behind Chelsea and City if we try to do it via money.

Hope that isn't true. We have enough poxy attacking midfielders. Podoski, Walcott, Chamberlain, Rosicky, Zenit don't want Arshavin and Gervinho. That's ignoting the fact that Song and Ramsey aren't adverse to moving up the pitch either.

We need a defensive midfielder and another 'proper' striker since RVP is leaving. I mean seriously, enough with the attacking minded midfielders at this point.

Usmanov of course would support Wenger whom is somewhat a genius, why replace him if theres money to spend? it just sounds like Usmanov is saying under my control Wenger would be able to work with a better squad. more funds. different strategy. not so gagged in laying a solid foundation 'forward'

Yeah, he want's to spend a lot of money. He says. Meh. I still don't trust him. If I had my way Arsenal would still be owned by a whole bunch of people rather than one person but if it's going to be one person I don't want it to be a sugar daddy type owner. Too much risk.

The guys at my arsenal forum (see my Sig) seem to be split between RV per$ie is a part of a lady and it's all the boards fault that our best players go every year. Personally I don't think either party come out of this well, not that any other person outside the support of Arsenal cares, but I'm sick of players saying they love my team one minute and then saying they practically hate it there the next. I pay my hard earned money to go to the Emirates a couple of times a month and I hate that multi million pound footballers and multi billion pound owners take the pee out if the very people that support them.

Some have said make rvp see out his contract on the bench, but I say f him, get rid now, I only want players at my club that actually want to be there. We don't need him and his advisors stinking up the place spreading their poison.

I might argue that it is the unrealistic expectations of supporters.

Why should RVP love Arsenal? Was he brought up in the area? Did his father take him to Arsenal every weekend, where he develops a love for the club?

He is a paid employee, a well paid employee, but an employee none-the-less.

Fans need to start waking up and smelling the coffee. Football players do not go to clubs for the love of the club. If that was true, fees would not be as high.

i don't dispute your love of the club...but please...it seems very foolish to expect a footballer to love the club. I might argue the norm is a healthy respect for the club..love is rare...and equally there will be an amount of footballers that probably hate their club

Pleased to see the Rangers captain added to our squad. Could be a good signing for us.

Yes several PS clubs were after him so he is definitely a good signing for you.

That sounds a lot like a German version of the Dutch Speech he gave after winning the Champions' League with Ajax.

He's famously responded to a journo's question by saying 'Are you that stupid, or am I that smart?'. I don't think he's bothered by slings and arrows in the slightest bit.

It's just some random Twitter account for now. We do know that we've been linked to new keepers for a while now because Szczesny needs backup and the rest of our goalkeepers seem to be leaving...

OT, have you been reading Arseblog the last couple of days?

Craig Gordon is a good keeper. Probably wasn't worth the money that was paid for him at that time but sometimes the EPL throws up silly transfer fees.

I'm kind of surprised that no EPL team has been linked with Alan McGregor of the ex-Rangers. Good keeper, no transfer fee... although you'd have to lock up your daughters... allegedly ;)

I've no idea why he's nicknamed McShagger but if he manages to stop balls flying past him it could be a good acquisition for somebody.

Pathetic

All for an introduction of bans for anyone caught diving in football. It's like the plague now. 3 game ban on the basis of video evidence imo. I thought we got the ball rolling with the ridiculous Eduardo dive a few years ago against Celtic.

yes it was bad but we see the same in the prem every week and nothing gets done. The same as getting kicked on the ankle and going down holding the knee.

As this is a foreign player in a foreign league the Sun can have a go they won't list all the dives and cheats from the first weekend of the season though

Oh yes its obvious considering how often he captains his club, mind you given the farcical way we are treating this tournament he probably is the obvious choice actually.

meaningless number really. If he doesn't perform he will be sacked so might as well make it 100 years. Same goes for any manager not sure Mancini

Not meaningless for mancini, any compensation is based on contract

It's a sign of faith.. which gives him more stability.. We've seen it happen time and time again where if a football club puts faith in a long term manager that team performs well

To be fair van persie's medal haul at arsenal is equaled by his time in Dutch football, two medals isn't a lot to show for his ability, I'd flog him safe in the knowledge he'll spend large chunks of future seasons injured anyway.

I hear wenger turned down the Brazilian national job earlier

thenry 12-07-2012 01:59

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

hes turned down alot of job. hes attached to Arsenal which i love as a fan. his presence at the club is the equivalent of 100mil spend during windows but we're 200mil spend down or out of reaching success according to some genius men balancing stats and reality whom i cant argue against. that = Wenger needing to invest 100mil in the squad. get rid of players not needed and replace with quality able to make a difference.

i had this overhaul ive been saying over and over a few months back as around 80mil. Arsenal SHOULD have at least 50mil to spend. the sale of players not Robin could have added 40mil but reality kicked in and not only are we finding it hard to shift players but its said by a few men in the know that theres not even 50mil to start off with. in total, reality 120mil needs to be invested into Arsenals playing staff to compete.

Sky pulled a story on Van Persie doing a Rooney. one of our scouts said we buy to replace (possibily hinting at the Giroud buy) i dont know anymore. players destined to leave might end up staying put.
