Right now if you want Kids plus News and Sports packages in you can just pay for them but from September 1st Sky are cutting their Family packages from SIX to two.

There is only one team for me and alwaysabear , hence why he's desperate for the Coming Soon thread to reveal ESPNA HD arriving on VM

Perhaps virgin should have a add-on package for customers who want that little bit extra and are prepared to pay a little bit more.

I'll second that it's the main reason I took my main TV service over to Sky as the HD channel range wasn't flexible enough for my liking , I'm loving ESPNA HD , Sky Atlantic HD , Sky Sports 3 and 4 HD , Universal HD , Nat Geo Wild HD if these were offered on a VM HD pack I would definately consider returning.

MM's hit the nail on the head; if you want more HD and channel choice, go to Sky for TV. If you want free HD (but slightly fewer channels), stick with VM. Why muddy a well defined choice?

I'd say Sky Anytime+ is a stopping block. Having to have that to access Sky's on demand is terrible for those who want to keep their VM broadband because £7.50 (or £12.50 without their phone) a month just so they can use one feature is terrible.

What code are you on UK4 or UK5?

If it UK4 I think the tests is maybe something to do with Phase 2 of the Sky Sports Red Button and Virgin are testing in some areas to see if they work on boxes.

Can anyone help me how to do a channel scan on my Tivo to see how many channels I've got?

You do still get Anytime

Granted there's not as much as Anytime+

Slightly fewer? Sky have 50 odd HD channels, isn't that considerably more?

OK, considerably more (though there are only a few essential ones). The principle is the same; with VM, you get free HD, With Sky, you get 'considerably more' but pay.

I like the VM model.

Those who want more channels/HD, should either be patient, or move to Sky for TV

Not true if you want HD for sport and Movies which most would it's £7

I would expect VM to be getting the CBS channels and Sky Atlantic alteast, in 2011. Maybe ITV2/3/4 in hd also.

That's known/accepted; they're premium channels. That charge is levied by Sky anyway; VM have no control over it.

The problem is we get charged £7 for Two HD sports channels and the HD movie channels, sky customers get charged £10.25 for all of there's.

So a VM customer with Tivo pays £3 for Tivo and £7 for premium hd.

Yet £3 of that is just to use the EPG, Jesus christ people are paying £3 just have access to the EPG features,.............

You don't even get ITV2/3/4 in HD nore sky NEWS HD or Sky Atlantic HD or Sky sports 3 an 4 HD or NATGEO WILD hd. It a blatant ripoff.

Yep, we're kinda crazy us VM Tivo people.

What the heck has the 3 pound tivo charge got to do with the 'free HD less chanels' on VM, versus 'more HD/channels but pay for HD' on Sky debate

There are strong rumours that we will get quite a few channels in the next few months involving SD and HD channels, l would be very hopeful that these would be channels like ITV HD channels, History HD,ESPN America HD,Sky Atlantic SD, Universal HD and some of the CBS channels and some others possibly.:)

That's also 3 month old. They're always going to put that in because that is the one area they're lagging behind Sky.

An new source within Virgin Media has told me that Virgin may launch FIVE movie channels by September.

I will not name them until an other insider pm me with the names of the channels that I know of.

do we really need more movie channels? :( I think movie channels will fade away overtime as a result of lovefilm streaming and other such services. I'd rather have ITV2-4HD.

They must be big channels , I can't think of five that VM don't have unless we count some of the low budget ones or those electric sofa ones.

Oh, looks like it'll be five of these then:

MGM HD
Sky Movies Classics HD
TCM 2
Horror Channel + 1
True Movies 2
Movies4Men
Movies4Men + 1
Movies4Men2
Movies4Men2 + 1
Nollywood Movies

Im hoping for the first five, the rest of the CBS and CSC channels would be pretty good too!

Never mind movie channels they want to focus on the likes of History HD, ITV 2,3 & 4 HD, Sky Atlantic HD as well as the UKTV HD channels and Sky Sports HD3 & HD4 though I suspect latter 2 will be near impossible to get.

I'd imagine it will be the three electric sofa and the two M4M channels.

From a sporting point of view I'd like to see ESPN 2, ESPN News and Premier Sports. I noticed in the article someone posted a few days ago, which suggested Disney might try and buy SKY that the article mentioned ESPN are looking to launch a news channel to rival SKY's .

With the trouble murdoch is in i wouldn't be suprised if virgin is allowed to get any channels they want within the next few months :P

Virgin getting channels in the next few months will have nothing to do with whether Murdoch's in trouble or not.:)

There is still like 60% of Sky that isn't Murdoch owned, so I'm sure the chance of us getting Sky owned channels will increase if anything now that he's occupied with other things, letting the other shareholders who are hopefully less ruthless with their channels being on other platforms.

I imagine we will see Sky Atlantic due to the fact for all the millions (and millions) of pounds they put into advertising for the channel, and the EPG shuffle to give it prominence, it has still managed measly viewing figures which I'm sure has miffed the advertisers. It was meant to draw customers like jesus to christians (???) but flopped.

Sky have a great delusion about the impact of their channels as we saw with the Sky Basics fiasco.

Notice how they give the example of Mad Dogs (a good series I agree) that just also happens to be on various platforms but not a program off Atlantic.

Im my mind Sky atlantic has been a very expensive failure seeing they closed Bravo and Virgin one down and have spent absurd amounts on buying content and advertising it.

Which are being crippled by the fact they're not on Virgin, BT, Smallworld, etc. Even shows that go to Sky1 from FTA like 24 and House get their ratings slashed, so imagine how Mad Men and such will do going to uno platformo.

I completely agree, if Atlantic was on VM/BT vision then it gets more viewers and more advertising revenue hence a bigger budget so better programmes.

But I fear Sky want to keep it exclusive which is ok to a point, but if its exclusivity mean the demise of VM(Not an issue but needed to make my point) then that would be bad.

Would we have Sky Atlantic if there wasn't a Virginmedia? NOPE!

the_pidgeon 21-07-2011 10:39

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

They are just rubbing it in VM's face anyway, cos Atlantic is just a rebranded Channel 1 which was V1 which was put up after VM lost Sky channels the last time.
