Think you got confused .. the VIP internet part is one modem covering as many PC's as you wish dependant upon what router you add in... ONLY the Sky HD is priced per box with the main setop V+ box being free

VIP50 gets you all the stuff that VIP20 offers plus 50mb broadband and SKY HD channels, the SKY HD channels are free of charge on your main V+ box only, NOT on the additional V HD box. If you want the SKY HD channels on additional boxes it will cost you £7 extra per month per additional box you want it on

Virgin Media have to pay Sky for the HD channels, by offering them free on the main box on VIP50 they are paying Sky for you for the HD channels

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I started this thread to get a better deal for us VIP customers and I'm happy with the outcome so far.
We have emailed in our houndreds if not thousands requesting better and I think we have got it.

VIP 50 for £97.50 - only a £5 increase and you get 50mb broadband + Free Sky Prem HD channles (Main V+ Box) and the VIP pack now includes the VHD Box as the 2nd Standard Box. (£49 activation fee)

Plus were getting Comedy Central HD and a couple more Sky HD channels for no extra cost.

Its a start and a very good one - we wait and see for the new and improved VIP packages coming soon.

All in all I'm very happy.

Keep up the pressure people.

I agree I think we are getting a good deal now! Not much else I would improve in my opinion.

Anyone else think this might have just being their plans for early next year but have brought them forward?

---------- Post added at 16:36 ---------- Previous post was at 16:33 ----------

Also I just a got a reply from Virgin Media on twitter and according to them you can have the HD Channels on any box! Doesn't have to be the main one!

Yes agree I have just being told the same as long as your 2nd is VHD Box.

Also for those who feel disappointed that the 2nd VHD box does not also come with Sky HD Prem Channels - compared to Sky you have to pay £10 per HD package i.e. per box and another £10 per multi room plus the 2nd HD box costs a £199 one off fee.

We just pay an extra £7 on the 2nd box and one off £49 - I know what option I would go for.

I have just gone through to retentions and a very nice lady has now booked me in to have my BB upgraded to 50 meg from 20meg, SKY Prem HD channels for free and additional set top box swapped for a HD one next Tuesday. ! will now be paying £97.50 a month. So basically £5 extra a month (£20 BB activation fee & £49 HD box activation fee) :)

Customer Services go by whats on the system and this offer is not system driven YET.

Why do you have to pay the £49 for HD activation on the multiroom box, when it's states on the VIP webpage "Additional V HD Box - HD activated" ?

Because if you upgrade/new customer to VIP you will see a one off charge when you add it to the basket if online or you will be told the one off fee.

Its also a standard charge no matter what package you have

Hmm, that's a bit odd. The small print says it's a £35 installation fee, when adding the basket it changes to a £35 HD activation fee. Neither are £49 though.

I think I'm only VIP 20? Only just recently upgraded. Would I need to upgrade to VIP 50 to keep the premium channels after 6 months? I'm paying about £96?

So much for the ceo office been so good i asked for the HD channels to be added as i stated in my previous post. Guess what they were not added and neither was the discount, so i again fired off anther email to try and get this sorted and whilst out with the children i got a phone call from the office again asking me to call about the HD channels and also my disgust that only that the vip + 50 meg were getting these. Going to be a intresting call tommorrow? As i am out of contract?

My HD channels have not yet been added either despite accepting the discount arrangements last Saturday. Have sent a chasing email to CEO office.

I certainly wasn't aware that Sky's £10pm HD supplement was per box:shocked: maybe for sports and movies like us, but not for the bulk of other HD channels. And look at the price for the second box, when you look under the shiny surface of Sky you soon see its only skin deep.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Can I ask how much I should be paying for the below bundle:

VIP
Additional V+ Box (instead of the normal second box)

We're currently paying £103.74 - though that includes £1.25 for paper billing - so taking that off it becomes £102.49. Is this incorrect? Thought I'd question that before I sort out the Sky HD channel situation.

Speaking of which how much more would it cost to go with the VIP 50 deal based on the above? £5? but then another £7 to get it on the second box too? Would have been very tempted if it was included for both boxes for free. I think the 6 month free on VIP20 would be a better deal. With that you'd only have to pay £7 to get it on both boxes. Granted you wouldn't get the increased speed but is it really worth paying another £5 for that?

BTW This 12 month tie-in does that tie you into just the VIP package or the Sky HD bundle too?

Yes agree I can also see that when adding to basket - so I'm guessing its new customer/online order price - were if we upgrade its a £49 charge.

Plus VIP 50 is not an option YET via online and I do know there is a separate install charge for 50MB Broadband/activation charge etc.

Remember its a one off £49 for a 2nd VHD Box and you will get all HD channels under XL TV plus any future HD channels that get put under XL TV for no extra charge.

Maybe they are just slow at updating the webpages. My 2nd box in the bedroom with only 19" attached so I don't see the point of paying £49 to get HD on it. So I'll leave it as is.

Kudos to you though for starting this thread and informing everyone of the deals.

you guys might be happy - the VIP 50 is a good deal if you are prepared to pay extra.

I'm on the VIP 20 with a 3rd STB and feel I already pay enough. I was really hoping they would do something to make this pasckage more 'Impressive' but that has not happened. I was kind of expecting the Sky Premium cannels on all boxes as the bare minimum.

Of course it isn't early 2011 yet and this could still happen - just my feelings on a post card ;)

Then compared to Sky you would have to pay £30 Multi Room, £30 HD Sub and £400 for the extra Sky HD boxes. and then add your TV/Phone and BB package on top.

Remember VM may charge £7 per box but guess what so do Sky - every Sky customer who has a HD Box that wish to get HD channels has to pay £10 per box not £10 and get HD on all boxes.

Update on VIP50

All Customer Services members have now being given pre press email stating option.

VM will be releasing this to the Press and updating the website in the coming days.

So to recap - VIP 50 gets you Current VIP package with 50 MB BB and one Free Sub/Box Sky Prem HD channels for £97.50 per month.

Current VIP customers have option to upgrade standard 2nd box to the V Box HD for one off fee of £49.
Also the V+Box HD is an option at £49 put there is a monthly sub fee for the +/on demand services - my understanding this is an extra £10 per month.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Not strictly true regarding all CS reps!

I have just called to upgrade from VIP20 to VIP50 and was told it was £55 for the upgrade plus £49 if I wanted to change the second box from a v to a vhd - pointed out the Mark Wilkins post etc and the CSR denied it point blank and asked his supervisor who said the same - hung up and called again but went to retentions this time - they said they are the only people who can waive the £35 install charge!
No point in calling customer relations really then is there!

VIP 50 is 97.50. 114.99 - 97.50 = £17.49 wtf im i paying extra for  been paying 114.99 since 50Meg bb march last year so not happy if im been over charged since then

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

Guess it depends on whether your second box is V+ too but presumably at least part of the extra cost is to do with this third box of yours. I know it costs an extra £10 to have your second box as a V+ rather than the standard V box. Let alone going for a third V+ too.

2 V+ and one V box

Remember VIP50 was only released on 5th.

And I agree £107.50 should be your monthly bill as your 3rd box is a V+ which comes with a £10 monthly charge.

So you have being paying £7.49 which I believe is the Diff between XL and XXL BB

On your bill you should see XXL 50Mb Broadband £45.00 When it would of shown Broadband Size: XL £37.00 if your were on the standard VIP.

I'm not going to explain the 0.49p differance but below is the VIP50 price breakdown

Description Amount
Telephone Line Rental £11.99
Talk International £1.50
Talk Unlimited £7.95
Talk Mobile £1.50
Phone, TV & Broadband Saving -£37.94
T V Size: X L £24.50
1 Additional V HD Box £15.00
V+ HD Box £10.00
Add Set Box(es) Discount -£9.50
XXL 50Mb Broadband £45.00
Skymovie 2,SkyMovie 1,Sports 1,Sports 2 £27.50
Skymovie 2,SkyMovie 1,Sports 1,Sports 2 HD Prem £0.00
Total £97.50

No point in calling customer relations really then is there!

Strange, I just called customer relations and spoke with a really helpful lady who, once i said about the post by Mark Wilkins, checked (I assume with a supervisor) and the install charge was removed.

Couple of daft laddie questions:
On the VIP50, are you committed to having the movies and sports for the full year, or just for 1 month from ordering, and thereafter 1 month when ordering?

And, if you just take M phone, XXLbroadband and xl tv with movies and sports +hd (£7), wouldn't that work out as same as VIP50?..£96.49..so could you get retention deal lower?

The VIP pack includes everything in the package and you can't take anything away from it. If you do, you come off the VIP pack and everything is priced individually.

You may find a package that more suits your desired levels though or retentions may give you a good price on the individual components you want.

I would ask about the discount not being correct - it should be £37.94

Are they moving current VIP customers over to this new pricing or do i have to phone and sort it all out - No you will have to call at the moment VIP 50 is a option i.e. current VIP20 can either stay or upgrade.

Either way VIP50 is £97.50 plus £10 per extra box over the 2 provided in the VIP deal.

If I was you call and get it sorted.

YES YES YES 100% I know as I have mates rates and the discount should remain at £33.50. - so the overall charge for VIP50 including mates rates would be £64. (Now that is one hell of a deal)

I'm currently paying £ 83.99 for XL TV L BB and T/P. which
includes a second V+HD box and caller display.
I've ordered the HD package which will bring my costs to £90.99 pm

Am I correct in saying that VIP50 would cost £ 99.50 (incl CD) - so
for an extra £ 8.51 I get 5x broadband speed + additional free calls etc?

If so how can I update, and will that entail a new 12 month contract?
Many thanks

just got the my new bill and its very strange looks like they have added the HD for £7 increased the discount to £41.95 (from £34.95) and then at the top of the bill i get another £7 discount.

So my bill is 107.99 which is only 49p off what u say it should be. Dont know if i should phone get it all sorted might even get some refund as I may of been paying for a extra box for over a year or wait the 6months then complain.

The VIP50 package is £97.50, extra V+ boxes cost £10 per month (This may be slightly less if you have upgraded your 2nd standard box to a V+ Box)
I think I recall it being and extra £5 if you have replaced standard with V+ (Your current bill should show both box charges and then a dicount for your boxes) - send a screen shot and I could take a look but remove contact/account details.

So depedning on your package it could either be £107.50 or £102.50

Problem is each department in VM have different offer codes/discounts, CS offer deal of the month etc and retentions can offer a lot more and higher discount.

The other problem is there is so many bundle deals/options for customer to take I guess its a tad hard to keep it all standard.

All I know is VIP20 customer should be paying £92.50 and VIP50 should be paying £97.50 - extra boxes like V+ can cost £10 per month extra.

its 0.49p but its on of those things that bugs you - keep trying

Cheers for your help the only thing is if I was paying for 4 boxes I would have thought I would of had 4 new cards turn up your thoughts on that? but I believe moving to the VIP50 deal would make the bill more tidy as currently its a mess lol

Big Red, how did you get VIP 50 on to your account with Mates Rates. I have tried over the last two todays to have it added and have been told that the Mates Rates discount needs to be removed for it to be added. today I called retentions about it and got the same response that Mates Rates is only for 20Mb.

I'm sure this has been said before but I'll say it again.

Retentions can't help with Mates Rates. Only your family member or friend who got you the deal in the first place can progress any changes to it.

Mates Rates are applied subject to your level of packages i.e. the more the higher the discount the max discount is £33.50 and this is included on VIP50.

You can only get mates rates if a member of your family or a friend works for VM - that VM member can only offer mates rates out to 5 people and mates rates will stay on your account as long as that VM member works for VM - if the VM memeber left then it would only last another 12 months and then it would be removed..

HD sky sports & movies free with VIP package

I wrote an e-mail to virgin media last week about why I was being charged £7 extra for sky sports and movies, when I thought that it would be free with the VIP package. I understood there would be some fee, but that was if you were on Another package...anyway the lovely lady who rang today, explained that sky sports and movies were going to be free with the VIP package, but there would be a charge if you were on other packages...I was really pleased with this!! Apparantly it's goin to be announced next week on the website!!!

Jameseh 08-08-2010 00:06

Re: HD sky sports & movies free with VIP package

No, it is only the VIP+ customers (VIP with 50mb BB) that get free Sky HD as Virgin have to pay for that out their own profits.

I was only kindly sharing what I was told...she never mentioned the words VIP+, she just said as you were a VIP customer!!! Irrespective, should be free with VIP, regardless whether one is using 20 or 50mb broadband, otherwise don't use the word VIP!!!

I've signed up for VIP50 from VIP20. Very happy bunny!
I will need to double check (later on) my bill as I beleive my monthly charge is now £109 p/m. But I have 3 boxes (2 V+ HD and 1 VHD), so I presume there's an extra £10 charge for my additional V+HD box.

Thinking out loud, would I be able to reduce my bill if I changed one of the V+HD boxes to a VHD (or would this still be an extra £10 a month)?

I rang retentions the day the Sky HD channels came out and was told twice that only those with the 50mb broadband on the higher VIP package would be receiving the premium channels for free. I imagine those with it have it in error as VM could not afford to pay Sky £7 for every VM customer while still charging them the same.

Hi No

All your doing is upgrading current VIP package to include 50mb BB - the mates rates will remain on the account.

VM can not remove these dicounts unless your family/friend leave VM - but you do get 12 months notice.

£10 cover both the Box and the V+ - if yo did I believe the charge would reduce by £5 but then you would have to pay another £49 for VHD Box.

If right your charge should be £107.50 as the VIP50 charge is £97.50 + £10 for your extra V+.

Based on that I think the charge would be around the £102.50 mark.

But give them a call remember the VIP50 is £97.50 so you should be looking for something around that when getting a deal with retentions.

Cute move by virgin, you get the hd channels for free for 6 months only on vip 20 and your tied in for 12 months. At the end of the twelve months you are either faced with a £7 increase, for 6 months, or upgrade to vip 50 for £5 and be tied in for a further twelve months from that date.

The accountants made a crafty move on this one.

John.

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

I have just tried to upgrade from VIp20 to VIP50 but was told that the price is £98.75 and not £97.50.

I have also been told that the discount that I was getting for 6 months (£7 for Virgin completely chuffing up my internet when we moved next door!!) will not be applied if I upgrade to VIP50 and that the price of £89.50 is wrong as the VIP package is £92.49 and not £89.50 anyway. I pointed out the website displays £89.50 and CS said that the website hadn't been updated for a while!!

I understand the logic that it was applied to my existing package, but that sucks especially as I will be upgrading and not downgrading!
How do you lot get through to the right person to speak to?? CS were not very helpful.

The accountants made a crafty move on this one.

No what they said was after 6 months they would have revamped the VIP packgage, so until that is completed we don,t know whether there will be a £7 increase for remainding 6 months.

The VIP revamp has been completed as far as I'm aware - it's the VIP 50 with the inclusive HD Bolt on

There isn't any change to the VIP bundle with 20Mbit - so if you have been give a six month reduction on that, then the bundle will return to it's original price after that period - or as close to it after the Sky SD premium price changes that are due before the end of the year

Are you on paper billing which is an extra £1.25 a month?

If true this is truly disgusting. I have emailed Diane in the CEO's office for clarity.

I was really impressed when told that the VIP was being reviewed as I thought Virgin had realised how much the discount on the package had been eroded and looked forward to it being a Very Impressive Package again. I have just read a posting on one of the forums stating:
"The VIP revamp has been completed as far as I'm aware - it's the VIP 50 with the inclusive HD Bolt on"

This was a from Virgin employee who is usually correct with his postings and if this is correct it is VERY,VERY disappointing, especially as people have signed up to a new 12 month contract when they will only get the HD sports & movie channels free for 6 months. It feels like a bit of a con to be honest. There is not a lot I can do about it for 12 months but if true I will be reviewing my options in 12 months time.

Can you verify or deny this statement?

Re: VIP/VIP+ New and Improved VIP Package

No it wouldn't because when people are talking about the six month discount there are talking about an extra offer that is completely seperate to the changes to the VIP 50 and/or the HD Bolt on.

It just happened to be discount the VIP bundles by the same cost as the Bolt on so obviously has been used as a way to reverse the increase for a period of time.

So if someone with VIP 50 has the the six month discount they will end up paying £90.50 (rather than £97.50) until the discount expires

I have received the following email from Diane in the CEO's office:

Hi Richard

We have not had any information about the new VIP package that is being introduced in quarter one next year, so I'm unsure to where this information has come from. The changes that have been applied to the VIP packages are whilst we review the package in its entirety.

Therefore the information you have been given has not been confirmed or discussed or finalised. We are looking in to the VIP 20 changes and will advise our customers in due course.

Kind regards

Diane

Perhaps you can tell me where you heard the info you posted Ben?

I apologise then if they are still looking at the VIP 20. All the recent information about the VIP 50 changes made no mention about any planned improvements to the VIP 20

That's Ok Ben. I just wanted it clarified as Diane told me on the phone it would be seriosly looked at in Q1 next year. I will maybe upgrade anyway when the offer has run out but the way you put it made me think I had been conned. Maybe your source wasn't as reliable as you thought. Hope you don't get into any bother as you are a brilliant source for us non-employees!

It's £97.50 for VIP50, if you don't have the 6 months CEO discount on VIP I guess you're paying £99.50 so £2 cheaper :)

OK to clear things up.

VIP20 - The current VIP Package - cost £92.50 (If taken the actual package no add one extra) - yes the price on the web states £89.50 which does not include the 1st April Price increase which took it up to £92.50.

VIP20 Sky HD Deal - Yes for those who contact the CEO are getting a £7 discount when adding Sky HD Channels - this is a 6 month deal.

VIP50 - Cost is £97.50 which includes 50MB BB and Sky HD Channels on one box.

The £5 increase is the differance between 20MB BB and 50MB BB so your getting the Sky HD Channels free for as long as your on VIP/VM offer the channels.
