Well its that time of year and I'm off to Great Yarmouth for a holiday and it's a hot 31c.

So I won't have a decent Internet access, other than via my mobile, so as the Terminator said "I'll be back" in a couple of weeks. :D

He's quite bright, but, being a normal 18 year old, doesn't focus on what is (in our opinion) important, as social life and friends seem to take priority - I was just the same at his age, but had the bonus of being in the forces at that time, where lack of focus was not an option.

We will just wait until the results come out and see - can't change anything now.

btw, thanks for your kind thoughts - much appreciated.

He will do fine and will probably be surprised at how well he actually has done, have a family holiday beforehand and forget about the results if possible for now.;)

I remember our son saying he felt he was living in a kind of limbo during the period between his exams and the results coming out. He couldn't seem to settle, not knowing whether his results would get him on the Uni course he wanted or send him back to 6th Form for re-sits.

Fingers crossed your son gets the results he hopes for. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/10/10.gif

Just found out we're off to the Lakes next week-end, for a suprise (belated) 50th Birthday party for a friend.

A friend of ours has lived in California for the past 10 years, and celebrated his 50th in Hawaii. He mentioned to his wife that it would have been nice to have some friends there to share it with.

She is bringing him back to the UK this week, allegedly to visit family, but has arranged a surprise party for a few (14 couples) close friends, and has taken over a small boutique hotel near Ambleside for the weekend (she knows the owners).

Should be a cracking week-end - looking forward to catching up with him (and her) - he was in the 100 top US CIO's last year, just before he took early retirement, so I will try not to be too envious.:D

Just ordered my new work laptop today.

I currently have a Tosh R500 (Core2 Duo 1.2Ghz, 2GB RAM), and I am changing it for a Tosh R700-160 (i5-520M 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM) - should notice a difference in processing power, methinks.

Still Ultraportable, at 1.4Kg.:D

We took my daughter for a family meal for her 21st birthday last night at Marco Pierre White's "The Swan" in Aughton and the meal and the restaurant were both superb and the service was spot on.

I would recommend it to anyone able to get there.

Her birthday is today so we are having a small party for her at home.

Im not fishing for rep here, Im more than happy staying on one star :) However, whenever I do receive good rep Ive just realised how sad I am. Thinking back, I smiled, stood up and walked in to the kitchen thinking "hmm, someone actually agrees with me" Odd thing is rep doesnt bother me, its more the knowing someone agrees. Even more odd that that puts me in a good mood :o: Im now in the kitchen wondering why Im stood in here

I've had my 2 year assessment and am still cancer free. :)

I now have 6 monthly checks until 5 years.

The chances of reaching 2 years without secondary cancer was 30%.
That has now improved to 65% at the 5 year milestone.

As my oncologist said " you're not out of the woods but you are making good progress"

Thats fantastic news Julian, I work in a stop smoking service and can hear a guy making every excuse up under the sun to continue smoking - to a colleague of mine whilst i type this. If only they knew eh? ;)

I really do hope you keep improving and your chances of secondary cancers lessen with each day :)

Not worth opening a new thread for...

With the youngin at home, 2MB BB was getting kinda tight, so I phoned 150 to get upgraded to 10MB. "Wait about an hour and reboot the modem." Less than an hour later I thought I'd do a speed check to compare before and after and, lo and behold, 10MB already! Darn good service. Thanks VM!

Had a cracking week-end up in the Lakes, meeting with some old friends, and making some new ones.

I can recommend two places we visited - Jumble Room restaurant in Grasmere, and the Eltermere Inn in Eltermere.

V. tired now, as I can manage on 4-5 hours sleep a night for a couple of nights, and can drink heavily for two nights in a row, but can't manage both now (becoming a bit of a lightweight as I get older)...... early night tonight, methinks.

It`s a mirror carp Tinky, we handle them like we would our manhood and try and put them back in the same condition they came out :D

Catching fish is only half of it, there`s the birds like herons, kingfishers, owls etc and the boozing which helps the hours pass by. Allthough there is one small lake i go to which has a dogging car park next door, never look though :erm:

Matty I can well imagine the enjoyment, out there with your friends, in the quiet serenity of the countryside, whiling the hours away. BTW what's a dogging car park?

Just had a nice day out with my wife at the Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate - tired now......

(lived in Leeds (on and off) for thirty years, but never got round to visiting the GYS before - go figure).

Despite my continual trips to the hospital on the whole I don't feel nearly as bad as I have done.

What was excellent recently in hospital was that they recognised me and even offered me a cuppa when I got there this time :)

I mean ok so now I'm going to three seperate hospitals but at least I get about :)

My little garden is getting very populated now :) - My friend planted loads of stuff and now all the sunflowers are so big it's like a Triffid grove out there :)

Ok, so all I have to do is water them once a day, he does the rest for me.

Pictures to follow when it all actually flowers.

Oh and for some reaon people have started to add gnomes in the night, I have nine now

Or a Yeti for the garden

Just had a lovely meal out with our best friends at Jamie's Italian, Leeds.

Excellent food, good fizz/wine, and very good service - recommended to anyone in Leeds and the surrounding areas.
