odd, my wives htc 1 has just flagged up an update to KK but upon trying it says (repeatedly) 'Update is corrupted: The downloaded system software update is corrupted. Do you want to download it again?'

ad infinitum.

I did read that HTC have stopped rolling out KK in the UK due to a bug, I'll look on my Facebook page and post a link here to the article tonight.

Temporarily suspended due to unspecified problems. Couple of people on the Farcebook page were saying they had problems with wi-fi connectivity after the upgrade - having to rename the phone to get a connection.

I'm still not too clear if the S3 will get Kitkat, reports seems to be on and off to much.

Saying that after the last update I won't be updating till I'm 100% sure, that's if it does come out.

Anyone noticed any changes with battery life under Kit-Kat? After the update My HTC One has gone 3 days without needing a charge, normally needs a kick after 2.

At last, my Note 3 has finally got the Kitkat 4.4.2 update.

Anyone else with the Note 3 had the update yet?

My S4 got it. Only thing I've noticed is any different is that the status bar icons are now white.

qasdfdsaq 12-03-2014 23:28

Re: Google Android

White? Mine are already white under 4.3... or do you mean white white instead of very light grey?

Stephen 12-03-2014 23:34

Re: Google Android

Even the battery icon is white now.

Loads of new UI changes. Inc album art on lock screen when playing music. Batt level on the camera screen.

For the note 3 new accessability stuff including one handed phone usage of the whole phone.

Can anybody recommend a CD database app? (free if possible)

I use CD Shelf, but some of the track listing are badly screwed up its beyond a joke and retyping all the ones that are screwed up will take far to long.

SO I need one that you just scan/type the bar-code and it fills out all the relevant information and access a decent CDDB.

Does anybody know when T-Mobile are releasing kk on the HTC One (M8), and when Samsung are going to release it for the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014)?

What is your criteria?

Keep...stores information. Depends what you want.

Or are you looking for something more sophisticated?

That is more pc based.

I run ART on my HTC One M8 - it's stable and supposed to be quicker but it's hard to compare as Dalvik was pretty nippy on this phone anyway.

I do, thought I would give it a go and it works fine for me with everything apart from the new Angry Birds game (I screen apps before letting the kids have them on their tablets, honest!)

This might be useful for some. It took a while to come but the famed Nokia Here maps app is now available. Supposed to be as good as Google Maps, but you have the ability to use offline, so you're not dependent on wi-fi or a mobile signal. If you go driving in areas with no signal, it might be a godsend. I've got it just as backup, as I have a large SDCard so storage isn't an issue.

If you fancy a go, the link is here: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Nokia...evices_id61996

I accepted the update on my Nexus 7 (2012 - WiFi) and it now runs badly. Apps that were stable now crash, the SystemUI crashes, it runs really slowly, then speeds up to OK then snails to unusable. I would recommend holding off if you can.

I used this program to put kitkat back on. It wasnt that difficult but read it several times before starting. Took about 90 minutes from start to finish. If youve got stuff on it that you want make a copy of it before starting. There was nothing on mine that I didnt have elsewhere.

Only issues if you can call them that was 1 crash in chrome and the tesco app froze a couple of times during an online shop but recovered ok.
Overall it seems very stable, some apps need updating but that's to be expected.

1 feature I really like after the Google play services update is the ability to set trusted locations, so once set I don't have to enter a password for my Nexus 10 at home.

1 bug found so far in Lollipop, a few times all sound stops working until a restart.

cimt 25-11-2014 01:11

Re: Google Android

My Nexus 7 does have that. In Settings go to Security then select Smart Lock and you can set it there.

alferret 04-12-2014 06:29

I don't know if this happens with windows phones, other android phones or is just a Samsung issue but my 32gb micro SD card has apparently started to degrade to a point where when it's in the phone the phone reports that it doesn't have a sim inserted within a few minutes of booting. The only remedy is to run the phone without the SD card.
This has happened twice now, once in my wife's note 2 and now my s4. It's not as if we buy cheap no brand cards, they are branded but only seem to work for a year or so before causing issue.

SnoopZ 04-12-2014 08:14

Not had that issue before, although i have had to reinsert a microSD card again a few times in my old S3 as it wasnt recognised.

Your phone says there's no SIM when there's an SD card?

What model is it? My S4 has had similar issues (though it has a mainboard hardware fault too, possibly related) that sporadically causes 'SIM removed' or 'SD unexpectedly removed' errors, I've never pegged them as related but then again the SD slot and the SIM slot are both connected via the same cable so it's not inconceivable.

Finally I had to do a system rest and now Nexus 7 works fine on Andoid L.

Still a couple of niggles and the odd crash but faster and more stable than 4.4

Don't put the SD card in the sim slot and it wont be a problem. :D
Sorry couldn't resist.
On a more serious note I have never heard of that one before though I know on an earlier firmware my s3 would periodically through out the insert sim error. Never had an SD card in my s3 though, I just used the internal memory. So I doubt its related.
EDIT: I wonder if the error is similar to a failing hard drive in a PC. The delay in I/O causes the whole system to hang or at the very least makes all the healthy drives and occasionally network connectivity stall.

I've had a few failing SD cards in my Samsung phones and apart from the SD card itself unexpectedly disconnecting it has never affected other components or caused anything to hang or stall.

Android Lollipop had been really slow and sluggish on my Nexus 10 tablet, i was thinking maybe the Nexus 10 isn't upto the job, it was starting to pee me off it was like a slow old computer!

Well after reading other peoples comments with the same problem i decided to do a clean install wiping the Nexus 10, and to my surprise it is now superfast, faster than it ever has been so well chuffed now!

So if you guys are finding your phones or tablets really slow then try a clean install from the setting menu!

qasdfdsaq 20-01-2015 14:18

Re: Google Android

Not entirely specific to Lollipop either, similar things occur with KitKat and Jellybean.

SnoopZ 21-01-2015 10:34

Re: Google Android

I should have waited 24hrs before doing a clean install as i got offered the 5.02 update last night, luckily all appears to still be fast without any issues....for now.

alferret 22-01-2015 13:47

Picked up an extremely cheap, mint, note 3 open to all networks last night. Thinking about Cyanogenmod for it. Pleased with screen size and speed.
Good I hate Samsung bloat.

Looks like it can only be done properly with root, otherwise it appears the only way is "kill 'em as they start" which gains less.
