Man Utd and Toon ask about Owen

It's official: Real Madrid confirm that Man United have made calls asking about Michael Owen, though unfortunately for him, it's Newcastle who have showed the most "concrete interest". Owen himself says that's "mentally" prepared to stay at Real.

Kleberson makes Besiktas move

Manchester United misfit Kleberson has completed a £2.5mil lion move to Besiktas after passing a medical with the Turkish club.

The Brazilian World Cup winner was raised shoulder-high by supporters on his arrival in Istanbul on Sunday and quickly agreed personal terms to end his Old Trafford nightmare.

Man Utd Deny Owen Contact

Ten minutes after Real Madrid claimed that Man United and Newcastle had both been on the blower about Michael Owen, an OT spokesman has insisted that they've done no such thing. So does that mean only the Toon are actually interested? Oh dear...

finally.. lets hope we can get back to playing football and winning our trophy back

one thing i've noticed about Rio though is that when he needs to get stick in and use his head in corners etc when players boots are flying about he never does.. he always uses his feet up high instead

Yeah but the ref was bought.

2-1 down with 1/2 hr to go and 11 men is achievable. And when Leitao was "fouled" he was already on his ass and the ball going past and out of play.

Not a penalty, and not a red card.

Had that not happened, we had ample chance to claw it back.

Merson shook hands with the ref after the game... wonder what he said?

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season

Well I heard walsall were on top at 2-1 and were looking for a 3rd anyway and you played better after you had the man sent off. So you by all means wouldnt have come back if you had 11 men. Of course I agree that ref mistakes suck and they all becoming all too common in the game.

FOOTBALL TO SEDATE RIOTS

English football is being hailed as the cure for months of bloody rioting in Thailand.

Frustrated at an inability to end violence in the south of the country, the Government is to hand out 500 TV sets for people to watch the Premiership for free.

The televisions will be installed in village tea shops to enable those who cannot afford to subscribe to the satellite and cable services watch the games.

Re: The Football Thread 2005/2006 Season

Just got back. What a fecking diaster. First half was ok, but James was a complete t**t. Sole responsibility for 3 of their goals. His excuse about not preparing and warming up don't wash. He wa son the pitch with the other keepers over an hour before the game and at half time.

Rooney was fantastic. If we didn't have him we wouldn't be half the team we are normally. I have no idea why Joe Cole is in the team, talk about ineffective. Little dribbles, beating no-one and either a lost ball or a weak shot at the end. Was constantly out of position making Ashley Cole have to defend the entire left side on his own. Lampard didn't turn up and Rio Ferdinand... £120k a week, you're having a laugh!

Still, I can recommend Denmark as a place to go nice people, gorgeous women, nice clear roads with no speed cameras. Some bad things though, everything costs shedloads, a twix is about £1!! Steak and potato wedges, £16! Beer is between £4 and £6 a pint. Toll to get over a bridge.. £20!!

can't see why we didn't play Downing on the left as it was a friendly.. defence was rubbish and James isn't even good ebough for the prem..

I don't know. We were very sharp in our possession and play, and still created nothing in the way of clear-cut chances. We need a striker.

Leics were asleep in the first half 2-0 down to crewe, we thought back but could only get a point, considering we put maximum effort into defense pre season 8 goals conceded so far does not make good reading.

He'd never have fitted in. The fans hate him and he's not a hoofy Megson type player. Too lazy.

Another narrow win for Chelsea today, unlucky Ol' Arsenal.....

And after narrowly beating Wigan by the same scoreline last week, it would seem that they really haven't got going yet, I think we could be in for another season like the last one, but I hope not for two reasons, and that is to make Kenyon eat his words, and Chelsea are pipped to the title by united :D

awaits the flack :disturbd:

Chelsea have been very lucky so far, outplayed in 2 games.

You'll find that most championship winning teams have their fair share of luck, it's part and parcel of football. I can't think of one championship winning team who never had luck on their side.

Regards.

Well all of my teams, ( :p: to you know who) are doing well, Although Forest will get to play Oldham Athletic this season, they may miss out on playing one of my other teams, Rochdale could be swapping places with them.:D

The Reds have had a decent start as well.

I was under the impression that Abramovich had bailed Chelsea out, i.e. paid off their debts, but, apparantly not according to this site, it was only a loan, (use the dropdown box for other clubs suffering financial difficulty) so if he loses interest their would be a few people out of work. ;)

Actually, I would not like to see that happen to any football club, but, anyone who employs Kenyon as a financial advisor deserves all they get.

If you hadn't worked it out, I just can't stand that guy, even when he was at united, talk about a milkman............

That's pretty common business practice though, especially in football. I know it's what Doughty's done at Forest. Makes sense when you consider if we (or anyone) went into admin then he would be a creditor and entitled to some of his money back, or he could get return on some of his "loan" if financial circumstances warranted it. I also believe Doughty's only acting as guarantor to a lot of the debt- that's if he's not paid it off himself and loaned it back as rumoured over the summer. It's also done that way for tax purposes, it's not possible just to pump money into a business in the red I don't think so "loaning it" is a tax writeoff for ND/RA and a legit way to give the club money...

Don't care about Kenyon though. As long as the Russian keeps bankrolling the club and doesn't get busted by MI5 or whoever then it's a case of "we'll cross that bridge if/when we get to it" :D

I read somewhere a while ago that Bramovitch was being investigated by Russian inteligence regarding his dealings in his home land, they have convicted some high profile buissiness men already, he happens to be on there hit list.

Keane to be rested
With United 3-0 up from the first game, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has decided not to risk the Irishman in the second leg and will instead hand Alan Smith a central midfield berth.

Will be interesting to see how Smith gets on in midfield.

You never know. Players can change position in their career with great success. The best example of this is Henry.

Fluctuating at the moment i bet - tough call - the thing is if they keep playing like they are - who knows? Everyone keeps banging on about having to beat Celitc and Rangers though, but both those teams have dropped points recently to other teams and Hearts havent.

Early days yet though - when winter sets in and a few players pick up injuries then who knows what will happen.
