So you expect everyone with an STB to request a SACM, not exactly practical, the point is that STB users are always last, but never told this..

I'm in the PO12 area on 750k using a Pace STB

I get my new Samsung STB on Thursday afternoon

How do I get current STB to update to 1Mb before I get 2Mb service on Thursday?

I'm also using a LinkSys EtherFast Cable Router

Surely you've asked for a Samsung box because the current STB can't handle the new speeds, so I can't understand why you are trying to get the current STB to handle the new speeds (esp when you're getting the Samsung in 2 days)

As part of the ongoing project to maintain and upgrade our Broadband network, there is a requirement to carry out work on components which may result in a loss of service for the duration of the work. The maintenance work for this week is as follows:

On the morning of Tuesday March 8th between midnight and 6am, broadband customers in Blackburn, Southampton, Bishopbriggs, Cwmbrwla, Oxford, Kempstone, Norwich, Salford, Dover, Folkestone, Lewisham, Baguley, York and Belfast may experience a loss of connection due to local work.

Additionally customers in all regions may be unable to access the ntlworld.com homepage or their personal ntlworld websites due to server upgrades, and may experience a 5 minute drop of connection due to local network load balancing.

On the morning of Wednesday March 9th between midnight and 6am, broadband customers in Woodborough, Wearside, Addlestone and Belfast may experience a loss of connection due to local work.

On the morning of Thursday March 10th between midnight and 6am, broadband customers in Portsmouth, Stoke, Southampton, Rutherglen, Hemel Hempstead, Stapleford, Woodborough, Rochdale, Withington and Belfast may experience a loss of connection due to local work.

And finally on the morning of Friday March 11th between midnight and 6am, broadband customers in Woodborough and Belfast may experience a loss of connection due to local work.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience these planned works may cause.

Does this mean that the areas stated will be first on the list to get the speed upgrades or is this another issue all toghether?

the router will not affect the upgrade. when you say you want to upgrade ntls server checks the mac addy of you cable modem against the username and password you entered. If the is no match then it gives that error.

I'm behind a router and the upgrade went straight through.

Other than seeing a noticable increase in speed, how do you know when the upgrade has been done.

Is there some utility that I can download to measure my speed?

Well Darlington or Teeside is not mentioned on that and i have already been upgraded to 3mb. I live in Darlington. Could be that the network around this area was already able to deliver the new speeds so no work was needed, where as the areas listed need network upgrades? I'm no network technician, just a guess :)

Nothing has been decided on this yet - and won't be until later in the year when the hard capping is enforced.

Of course, I wouldn't worry too much: hard capping is "coming soon"....

it works on mine and I'm behind a linksys router - as handyman says you must get the password and user name right or it dont work. my user name worked when I added @ntlworld.com to it.

If you think your having issued because of the router then unplug the router and plug the cable modem directly into the computer. Dont forget to reset both tpo refresh your ip's though.

Of course you may be on a seg that has not been upgraded yet.

I'd just like to say, THIS is why people get so frustrated at NTL. If you are rolling out technologys it is custom (rolling anything out actually) to have team meetings, nationwide, site wide, whatever, in order to ensure that the Customer receives the correct information.

I have counted, and I have heard 5 different responses to the same question from NTL Customer support.

this is the reason people leave NTL - not service outages, or possibly Hard Caps.....Sort it out for crying out loud. Professionalism means nothing anymore?

Wiggz

(and no, it's not the Customer Support staff's fault....the fault lies higher)

Hi, Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢ve just been onto NTL to swap my set top box to a Samsung box so I can receive the faster speeds when they arrive. I was told that they arenââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t issuing any new STB until at least the 4th April. So I asked why should I be paying £24.99 for a 750k service when there are others getting a 2 MB service for the same money. I was told a letter would be coming out to me explaining what is going on! Well done NTL another great idea, badly executed. Hasnââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t anyone heard of pre- planning within NTL?

John https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2005/03/7.gif

P.S Anyone within the Wirral had their speeds increased yet?

I've just dropped an email to one of my ex colleagues who are still at NTL to try and sort this confusion out, I do know though that the product codes have been added to SMS, ICMS and Harmony SABS/Onyx weeks ago it may well be that CS Staff have been told they are not allowed to manually upgrade customers so getting irate with a poor CSR is not going to help anybody.

Gooner, believe me, I dont like getting irate with CS if there following strict orders. But in this case there have been numerous responses to the same question. Its plainly not right. They should have a set procedure. They knew this was going to happen but didnt put any specific plan in place.

Thats the problem. It lies with the management. Not CS reps in particular, but it doesnt help aswell when they dont know what your talking about!!

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

No upgrade Coventry. If anything abit slower today and erattic today. I can not upgrade to any other tiers as I always get this error (no SMS details). What ever that means. Using surftboard modem. I wasn't orginally given a user name and password by NTL everything a bit different 4 years ago you chosse your own then had to ring in to register mac address none of this putting in discs lark. I did change my main user name and password due to spam and haven't had any webspace for over two years.

Well done NTL another great idea, badly executed. Hasnââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t anyone heard of pre- planning within NTL?

P.S Anyone within the Wirral had their speeds increased yet?

Its worth here taking a deep breath and and a sip of reality, NTL are providing customers with a *FREE* upgrade doubling your current download speeds and have not given a date for when this should happen so demanding compensation or some sort of money off because Bob down the road has got something you havent is churlish and comical to say the least.

woooooooooooot

i went to the tier migration page and it gave me the no sms error, rang customer services i got straight through to a lovely australian :naughty: the system was refusing to find all of my details through the site.

she then asked me if i wanted to upgrade my speed, i said yes is 3mbit available ?

she said: yes it is

me: is it £37.99

she said: yes it is

she said: its available as of today!

me: and it has a 1GB daily usage limit ?

she said: let me see with the details i have....yes its 1Gb daily usage

me: ok

3 seconds later:

she said: all done your now on the new speed!

me: thank you very much, thanks bye....

i went to reboot my cm straight away and:

Of course you may be on a seg that has not been upgraded yet.

Would a seg that hasn't been upgraded yet stop you from upgrading through a link such as https://autoreg.autoregister.net/cgi..._tiermigration ?

I would have thought that they would not want people upgrading in areas that required some work and would instruct NTL staff not to upgrade any customers asking for the upgrade in those areas until the work was done. But bypassing the human element and using the link just mentioned should mean that you are able to get the new config file as it appears the old config files are no longer on the apgrade site systems.

I would assume that theres someone like bbking logging in to the servers and running a script that sends out the config files and reboots the modems. Once each area is complete I would guess that they will run some tests, possibly phone a few people see if alls gone ok the move on to the next area. This process will take some time.

So no doing the upgrade yourself will not be affected.

They would not have released the upgrade if the areas could not cope with it, there will have been many tests for this and if they have doubled the bandwidth that they give us then there has to be more availble now on the network, it would seem madness to run at a max of 3mb, My guess is that the network has a theorectical limit of 10mb now. (its used to be 3mb before the upgrades).

Try this thread to identify whether you are 'Langley' or 'Bromley':

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)

I don't think too many people KNOW about it yet, so i doubt the problem is due to people going mad with the new speeds. I think it's more likely that ntl are still carrying out maintenence on the networks, to allow the new speeds. I've been upgraded to 3mb in Belfast, but i'm not getting the full speed, usually about 2.6mb. No doubt there will be some teething troubles for a few days/weeks while it all gets sorted out.

It's true, NTL are bad at this.
Whilst I was working for them there was loads of stuff that appeared on here well before we knew about it, and I was on the front line, the technical support desk.

I would not be surprised if very few people have been told about this speed upgrade, and if they had it would have been minimal information.

it's bloody amazing as only 3 years ago I was paying £50 a month for 1mb via set top box. then they unbundled it so I could have just cable modem. and now for £38 a month you can have 3mb. progress.

No good complaining about that to NTL mate, they won't do anything. :)

It's even worse if you are on the top tier. They have just had the nerve to double that to 3Mb at no extra cost. What are they playing at? If I was on the top tier I would cancel my contract immediately and move to one of those wonderful ADSL packages which only give you 2Mb. :D :D :D :D
