Re: Football talk

i dont know what we are playing at recently but we might play better if our left back was left back in the dressing room and our right back was right back in the reserves the way they are gifting goals away.
3-0 up and then scrape a 4-3 win at the death.....city fans wouldve never let us live it down if we had lost 3-4.
apart from that saha seems a good buy so far ,and ruudy is on song again.

chelsea scraped another jammy win today....they are not exactly championship material yet methinks........

I see Oldham took full advantage of all the extra Grimsby fans who had been given free tickets & handed out a 6-0 thrashing. :(

I can see 'Town' going down to the third division at this rate

jeex i would hate my team to be on the end of a 6-0 thrashing.
best of luck to grimsby mate they will need it

It wasn't just the Grimbsy fans, after a dreadful 12 months, just missing out in the play offs, then the past owner deciding he didn't want to play anymore. He sold off the best players at give away prices, without taking any advice from Ian Dowie, the club slid into adminstration and had to let Dowie go. He is doing a great job at Crystal Palace.
The 3 new American based, Uk born owners of the Latics decided that the first match of the official take over would be called "Celebration Sunday" when entry would be free for everyone at their expense. I thank Grimsby Town for their equally generous contribution.:D
The gate was 13,007 fantastic.

What has the Premier League of today, got in common with the original Football league formed in 1888 ?

Re: Football talk

Well I did say the answer was in my post. Of the 12 original members of the 1888 Football League six teams came from the fair county of LANCASHIRE, more than any other county. The same still applies today:)

Re: Football talk

What is the opinion regarding the planned disruption to the Cheltenham Festival by Man U fans?

Personally I don't think they will be doing themselves any favours and it will only drag the name of football even further into the gutter. They will be seen as hooligans and nothing else.

Also they will be asking for trouble from the hundreds of Irish racing fans for who the festival is the highlight of their calender.

I accept they may wish to protest, but that is not the best way to get their point accross.

Fair enough Neville should have gone (before anyone thinks I'm defending him) but Barton should have gone as well for the way he acted. Then he when he's getting booked, he's actually asking the ref why???

I think you would need a lot of fans @ £10 each to get someone elected to the board to have a say if that is what you meant.

Why Heskey????

Does f all for England, but still manage to keep is place in the squad.

I'd prefer Vassell in the first team than him. Vassell does actually do something when he plays for England.

You might think that Heskey is not one of my favourite players.

You'd be right.

It's not because he plays for Liverpool before you say anything.

If you give him the ball, you might as well give it straight to the opposition. Why does such a large bloke get knocked off the ball so easily for??

I think some people have a very very biased attitude towards Heskey. You say vassall actually does something for england?

Wha? Cos he's scored a few goals after coming on as a sub? Heskey's gave far more to england.. He doesnt get knocked off the ball, in fact.. when he's on the ball.. he's one of the strongest players. No, he doesnt score tons of goals.. but, in my opinon.. Heskey & Owen are the strikers we need (At the moment, Until Rooney matures), then bring Subs late in the game for Vassell & rooney. Heskey' gets messed around way to much.

 In every game I've seen him, he's been knocked off the ball so easily, my gran wouldn't be afraid of playing defence against him.

Too right!

I'm not saying Vassell's brilliant, but when he's come on as sub, he's looked like he could do a better job than Heskey.

I do admit that England are short of a good striker, that's probably why Heskley's in the squad.

Also, when it comes to Heskey, I think that the reason he keeps getting picked is because, if it's desperately needed, he can play in midfield (personally, I think he did well when Rooney and Owen were up front, and he played on the wing - just IMO, of course ;)

Particularly bearing in mind that, when you take into account the yellow card he got for diving, it's going to be a 5 match ban.

That has to go down as the most pathetic attempt at a dive since Peter Kay in the John Smiths advert, it was so bad it deserved a red for the dive alone.

a nice win for england wouldnt go amiss tonight.........
what does everyone think about arsenal keeping the cup if they win it for the third time in a row this year?....
being a biased man utd fan i believe if arsenal deserve it then we deserve it more because we have won it more times than any other team......
also if giving the trophys to teams to keep is the yardstick then seeing as we won the premiership in 1999, 2000 and 2001 i think we should be given the premier league trophy to keep......

I was just going to post about that too m8.

In this day and age of overpaid primadonnas skipping around the pitch, we should remember the gentemen that used to grace the game.

Not once was John Charles booked or sent off throughout his whole career.

I bet the Spurs fans were wetting themselves today, 3-1 up at half time. 10 man Leicester go 4-3 up before Defoe gets a late equaliser, talk about lightning striking twice.

aston villa could be taken over.........

Entrepreneur Bob Kraft and his family are refusing to rule out a bid for the Premiership club.

And privately, they are stunned that word has leaked out that they could be ready to make a move.

The Sunday Mercury revealed exclusively last week the growing interest in Villa. We highlighted soccer, ice-hockey and American football billionaires Philip Anschutz and Kraft as the leading contenders.

I read over the weekend that he's preparing a £20 million bid for the club which, stupid as it sounds, doesn't seem a lot for Villa :( . Oh well, as long as we can get of rid of that old Blue-nose Deadly Doug, it'll do me :D

FC Porto 2 Man Utd 1
Keane S/O

I think man utd's season will end up trophyless, it seems a strange thing to say when we are second in the premier, still in the FA Cup and still in the champions league, but their performances are very disappointing and they seem a shadow of their former selves, I hope they prove me wrong.

Well the bit of goss that I gave Iadom seems to have borne fruit on the 2nd Porto goal

Fingers and toes crossed they win something

Hi Debs, you were right, and I thought the film was called "White men can't jump":) . Overall Wes Brown had a decent game but it wasn't a good performance. The away goal is the only crumb of comfort, after all its only a game.

I now need a sneaky way of constantly linking this thread to ones that Ingog and Ramrod might view, just to annoy them.:naughty:
