I DIDN't WATCH the game because hubby says I'm a jonah if I watch them play.

So give me the reps instead or I'll watch the next game. ;)

Yes, a great win/game, but defence looked dodgy at times over the last three games. England need to get this sorted when they start facing the bigger teams.

Pah i am disgusted at how easy a fellow Welshman/Kinsman can be bought to change loyalties for the sake of a few rep points.

Now where did I put that image of a certain Mod/Admin with Policeman and a Sheep. ;)

How dare you betray your land of Wales for a meagre rep points.

PS for 10 reps I will post the above image when he is not looking.

:D

As for the game well nothing spectacular against a 2nd rate Croatian side with a 2nd choice Goalkeeper.

In fairness Rooneys goals were good but the defence has a lot to answer for.

Portugal will be a different matter.

;)

No no no, just keep in mind how they are relying on a WELSHMAN for their own success.... ;)

Yes but if this English jonah decides to watch on Thursday all your efforts will be for nowt. ;)

Anyway I reckon the kudos goes to Wayne Rooney. Hope he keeps it up and doesn't end up doing a George Best.

Incog.

2nd rate eh? Well, what would you say about the 2nd rate Croatian's game against the French? Croatia are not a bad side, and they battled to the end even when they needed 3 goals.

If you knew anything about football, you would recognise this. Stick to sheep shagging!!!:p:

And Portugal haven't been that impressive so far. In fact, no team has. Their biggest threat has got to be Ronaldo (from ManU). Figo is playing about as bad as Beckham. We do need Becks and Owen to wake up though.

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004

was a good game last night but we still didn't play that great. The good thing is none of the other teams have either.

Still playing too narrow and Becks is meant to play on the right wing not run into Lampard Scholes and Gerrard in the middle.

What i notice about Sven is that when ever we win he always says it must have been a great game never we need to work on a few things, i'm not happy etc.. That is the difference between him and Fergie \ Wenger.. last night they wouldn't have been happy and would look into areas that need improving.. it's why they are winners.. Sven just seems to read the Sun and say oh i'll pick Roonney.. better give Thompson a try on the left etc.

Yes. No one has stood out so far. One of the most open Euro championships there's been.

Thought Scholes is better in the middle, pushed up front a bit. Him and Gerrard should swap more. Lampard had a good game, even ignoring his goal.

Not sure. It depends what he says behind closed doors I suppose. He seems to have settled on his first 11 and will probably stick with them whatever. In a way, this is a good thing. Stability is needed, but we do need our main players to now do something.

Cole Backs His Hard Tackle To Stop Rampant Ronaldo

Ashley Cole admits that Ronaldo left him on his backside a few times the first time he came up against the Portuguese youngster - but with the two set to meet again in Thursday's quarter-final he says that one hard tackle usually takes care of him...

What do you reckon? If England are to win they need to stop Ronaldo and Figo

Ronaldo, definitely, but Figo? Nah. He's done nothing remarkable on the pitch so far (apart from look devastatingly gorgeous...)...... :naughty:

You still need to stop him, discount him because hes done nothing remarkable, and that will be the time he does do something remarkable!

So did Owen do the same yesterday for one of Rooneys goals, but I don't think the Portugeses' knees will be knocking about Owen..

Don't get me wrong, Figo is (well, can be) a superb player... I just don't think he's doing his best right now....

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004

I can see it bringing a few heart attacks that game... Ronaldo is simly awesome, and whenever he goes near our box I wont be watching, lol.

As for Figo.. he's done nothing at all.. Owen hasn't either, but you can't afford not to watch these players. It'l come for them sooner or later. Figo's arrogant anyway, the way he acts makes me think he thinks he's too good for them.

Although, in all fairness.. they aren't really that good a team  They have been seriousley lacking in this tournament, 40 or so minutes of half decent football (nothing compared to what England have been producing, or the Czechs, or the Swedes)..

To be honest I did feel sorry for the Italian goal scorer, his face when he realised his goal counted for nothing was a picture. On balance Italy did not play well enough and the two best teams in the group qualified. Now if only the Czechs put out a decent side we can get rid of the Krauts as well, somehow though I see the Germans sneaking through again.:(

But they did play well enough - they had won the same amount of games, and got the same points as Denmark and Sweden... to be knocked out through goal difference must be completely devastating... I too felt very sorry for them :(

PS Come on England!!!!!!!!!!!

sherer 23-06-2004 16:18

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004

seems to say alot about the Italians that their first thought isn't we didn't play well enough and don't deserve to go through but that it must be a fix.. I watched the Denmark v Sweden game ( i hate David Pleat so had no choice) and there was no way that game was fixed..

Looking at Denmark they about the only team so far to perform in all 3 games and could go far.

well i'm sure we all remember 66 when we played Portugal. 2 goals from Charlton to get us into the final. One a typical screamer from the edge of the 18 yard box. I remember it like yesterday and i wasn't even born til 78 :Yikes:

Well, didn't we win that mini-tournament in France just before the '98 World Cup? ;)

The problem is, it makes us look a bit stupid going on and on about 1966 because it underlines the fact that we've won nothing since 1966, and it makes us look even more stupid as we clutch at straws such as 'oo, it's Euro 96, we're at Wembley, 30 is a round number, that means we must win...' and, the one that is bound to be mentioned more than once or twice this evening, 'The last time England beat Portugal in competition was in the world cup in 1966...' (pregnant pause).

There's nothing wrong with optimism, but going on as if we are destined to win, and then looking gobsmacked as if the natural order of things has been upset when we lose, just annoys everybody (including me, and I'm English!)

yes that was Le Tournoi the trophy was lifted by my namesake who can't spell very well :)

I think some of the stats these comontators come out with now is a load of rubbish like if a certain player is playing on a tuesday and it's cloady he always scores after 15 mins..

I guess with 90 mins to fill they always will come out with some rubbish so 66 is bound to be mentioned several times.. still would be great to see Bobby's goals in the build up

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004

Anyway all you England fans, if you lose tonight, look on the bright side it might stop the interest rates going up!

Quote:

However UK interest rate markets remain choppy, thanks to the release of comments from the Bank of England yesterday. The UK rate tightening cycle is far from over, so when will the next hike come? That decision might rest on England's success in Euro 2004 - no seriously, it might! If England make it all the way to the final, then June UK retail sales will get an estimated £600 million boost, financed by credit. The Bank of England yesterday noted concerns over 'excess consumer spending and borrowing', so a £600 million surge in spending might well force a July 8th rate rise.

Looks like Rooney will be off soon :(

Vassall's been playing well... not worrying too much. He'l be missed but Owen's hit form, and Vassall is a nice provider.

I dont quite think the fools understand Paul.

They are constantly giving bloody free kicks away in a scary vicinity, dont they know Figo

They have the flipping potential to dominate, they need to get there heads back on, and start playing it around a bit, look to doing a few attacks.

End to end past few minutes,

AGAIN ON THE EDGE OF THE AREA!

So Rooney's injured his foot...you watch, if England get through to the semis, The Sun will have pictures of his foot, asking everyone to touch it and pray for healing, a la Beckham in 2002 :D

Sadly, Russ, I think you could be right! Still it will sell thousands of extra copies for them so I doubt they care! ;)

The ref's dodgy highlights-and-bleached-goatee combo looks almost as daft as that idiot who played for Liverpool a few seasons ago :D
