Yep only one of the old Pace boxes used IRDA all the rest use IR. I have used universal remotes and IR blasters with all my Virgin kit.

It's the older Pace boxes and the standard Scientfic Atlanta boxes that use the incompatible IRDA signals

I expect the TiVo box (along with the V HD box) will continue to use standard remote codes

That makes sense, thanks. Look forward to giving it a try, unless Virgin's TiVo box comes out first :)

I stand corrected :D

I know the TV keyboard Telewest used to use was not compatible with (TVDrive) V+ and Samsung boxes, so that makes sense. :)

I realise this may sound like a simple question... but why is everybody so eager for the card switch over? Is it just because it will hinder those people who are using dodgy boxes (and I totaly agree with anything that will affect that)? Or are there other benefits that I dont know of?

For me yes, there's one across the road who keeps rubbing it in everyones faces (& VM never seemed to care). However he's not in the know so I'm planning to tell him when it'll have maximum impact.:D

Virgin Media Television is reportedly close to agreeing a deal for the sale of its main TV channels, including Virgin 1 and Living, to Sky.

Hi all! I'm still catching up on all of the postings from Jan/Feb so I hope there's some exciting stuff to read. I've already seen news of new HD channels due between April and July and speculation of extra SD channels. I really must get a V+ HD box, oh, and a HD TV!

I received my new NagraVision smart card on Feb 5th and it was up and running in under two minutes (much better than the suggested 20 minutes). Anyone know how many areas have yet to receive the new cards?

Also, my box is now running Application Version 14.120.4/20091201r0 which is very recent but I don't know what advantages it gives.

Showing 316 Total Channels and 33 TS Streams.

I am getting a lot of 293 and 294 events "DMX Reset (EMM) ..." although they do not appear to affect the performance of the box. Anyone know about these messages?

Glad to see that FX is broadcasting in 16:9 widescreen at last although I'm not watching much on there at the moment.

I'm in two minds about this.

On one hand i find it utterly ludicrous that VM would WANT to sell it's stations to Sky given thay, in the future, it could have trouble securing a reasonable price to broadcast them (i.e the Sky 1 debacle).

It also means VM giving up any "card hand" in negotations with Sky (i.e Living HD and BTW will this mean VM no longer able to broadcast Living HD if it becomes owned by Sky???)

BUT i GUESS it could mean we are closer to having Sky HD channels on VM.

I hop ethat VM have made sure in any sales contract that the channels they sell to Sky can NEVER NOT be shown on the VM platform.

I find it hard to imagine they would sell to sky without safeguards against being screwed by sky in future negotiations. I also find to equally hard to imagine for such a deal not to be tied in with more sky channels coming to virgin.
After all these months of hardball by virgin they surely wont simply say to sky "okay we will sell the channels to you and of course we will trust to you to be fair in future negotiations".
It would be madness.
But then again never say never!
