I seem to recall it being stated, possibly by one of the posters who works for VM, that one way to tell is to sign-in to My Virgin Media. If you have been upgraded, then the "welcome page" will say "Broadband package:10Mb M" rather than "2Mb M" as it does now.
You may, of course, decide that it's quicker to unplug the modem's power supply for a couple of seconds instead.:)

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg

Ok, I just called up VM to get rid of my SkySports package (which I do every summer, as I'm strictly a football only man)

During this call, the lady said I should change my 2mb medium BB to Large 10mb and it will be 50p less than what I'm already paying. I asked, wasn't this upgrade happening over time for free anyway, she said yes but you might as well do it like this as you'll get 10mb straightaway for less money. She also stated it won't result in a new contract if I do it this way. Does this sound right? the cynic that I am expects there to be some sort of catch. I forgot to ask if this was a fixed price or one of those introductory offers (discounted first three months type price).

Anyway, thought I'd share that with you. Those that are waiting for the free upgrade may want to consider calling up and asking if its more worthwhile forcing the upgrade by switching to L yourself

Changing to L will give you a new contract, 12 months, on the broadband service.

How sure are you about this? She first said, without me even asking, that it won't be a new contract, you just carry on as you are. Before giving the go ahead, my exact words were "ok, I will go ahead with the upgrade if you're positive that there is no new contract"... she clarified by saying there definitely is not, and that I would only have to give 30days notice if I want to cancel.

:eh:

Oh I am a silly person I thought the upgrade was free!:dozey:
I'm not even sure I have been upgraded.
On the My Virgin Media page it says "Broadband package:10Mb M", but the speed test I've done are not that much different.
The speedtest at the bottom done on the 5 april before upgrade and the other one was done today. I have rebooted my modem as well.

It is free unless you jump the gun and upgrade to the higher L 10MB instead of waiting for the upgrade to the lower M 10MB.Then you pay the extra that the higher tier is priced at and you get a new 12 month contract..

I must say this does seem like a really complex way of confusing everyone..

And looking at that speed test I'm wondering if you are posting in the correct thread...

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg

Yes I am in the right thread I was on 2Mb.

And I’m afraid to disagree but it isn’t free.
My bill in March before my loyalty pack discount for Broadband Size : M was £18.00.
Since April it has gone up to £20.00 the price anyone who signs up now gets it for.
I didn’t jump the gun, I got an email offering me the free upgrade all I had to do was register for it, which I did.

If you have been with them a long time and you think your getting a good discount check it out I bet your not.
My bill this month for just the basics are
Phone line rental £11.00
TV XL £23.00
V+ Box £10.00
Broadband Size M £20.00
Paper Bill Charge £1.25
Talk Weekend £00.00
Payment Handling £ 5.00
______
£70.25
Less
Loyalty Pack £19.50
Payment Handling Credit£3.50
______
Total £47.25

Looks good that way, but now look at what you get if you have just signed up
Broadband L, TV XL, Phone S and a V+ Box for £35.00
Line Rental £11.00
Paper Bill Charge £1.25
Payment Handling £1.50 (if you can get them to knock off the extra £3.50)
______
Total £48.75
Doesn’t looks so good now does it.

I think the £2 increase was going to happen anyway even without the upgrade to 10mb, so that's why they say its a free upgrade. Sly on VMs part, but technically speaking, it can be considered as a free upgrade

According to this link Derby is yet to be scheduled so probably by the end of August.
