This one doesn't, but then again I don't rate Wilshere that highly either, always likely to pick up bookings, a bit like Paul Scholes but he is miles away from Scholes in class.

They wouldn't deal with Arsenal over Eto so if Mourinho must think United are not a threat. He is wrong.

Thats the only way i can see this deal happening. Why would Chelsea help relieve any pressure on United even if they don't see them as a rival any more, which would be stupid after just half a season. There must be some sort of agreement for Rooney if the deal happens.

Not all of it, near our seats most of the peeps are there every week but you do see other seats occupied by different people all the time, plus there must be an area right at the top/back with a block of non season ticket seats. They are often filled with kids groups from various clubs and schools at cup games and less attractive home games.

The other possibility is that Mourinho is stringing United along hoping they don't improve their squad and knowing that if United failed to sign Mata now, after all these 'almost done' stories, that it will help increasing the pressure on Moyes after the Fabregas fiasco in the Summer. After all if it did fail it would suggest nativity and inexperience on the part of Moyes and United....

How many years of underachievement it will take to dent that I'm not sure but you can bet their home gate won't drop to the levels that it did at certain clubs when they dropped down the leagues.;)

Looks like the deal will be completed very quickly, you would assume a verbal agreement would have been made on Sunday after the match, now its in writing.

£35 million for a player that can't get into your first team

If Mourinho thinks they don't need Mata I'd trust Mourinho. I wouldn't bet against him. Chelsea have a ridiculous midfield and they're mostly youngsters that are getting better each game. Hazard is twice as good this season. Mata is brilliant but it's evident Chelsea don't need him. United can ill afford to have spent £50+ Million on two players that didn't perform so I hope for their sake Mata does well. I thought Mourinho had gone insane when he signed Eto'o but it was a free signing and the bloke became the 5th player to score 3 past United in the EPL...

Anyone that thinks Mourinho still wants that job, I doubt it. After being apparently turned down I can imagine someone like Mourinho snubbing them if they came asking just out of bitterness.

Third point then and onto whether Chelsea actually need Rooney? Nope. It's evident he'd make the first team on name alone. Torres makes the first team despite Demba Ba outscoring him in all three previous seasons. If Demba Ba changed his name to Demba Rooney it would be a different story. Romelu Lukaku looks better than Rooney, Torres and Ba so it answers itself.

I suppose I have to trust the judgement of Jose. Mata hasn't started as much as the previous 2 seasons, and I can't slate the teams Jose has picked recently. Something has to give and I'll be sad to see Mata go. I can't remember a player we've kept after he's said he wants to leave, which I assume Mata has, so cashing in is the only alternative if you don't want to keep someone who's unhappy. I would have loved him to stay and fight for his place for the rest of the season, but if he doesn't want to do that then the only option is the one that seems to be happening. :disturbd:

I know nothing about being after Salah. Pity we didn't buy him before he scored against us... Regarding Wayne, that's the only thing I can think of when it comes to dealing with United. I'd say Real would be after the likes of Aguero and Suarez come the summer.

He's a decent player Salah. Real Madrid did find cash to offer Lewandowski silly money. I wouldn't put it past them making a crazy offer for Suarez, Falcao, Aguero....

Chelsea have probably bitten at the ridiculous fee, nothing more. It will balance the books for FFP. I think it was reported they were in a bit of a sticky situation, going forward that is.

With the losses we reported recently, around £15m don't count towards meeting FFP as it was spent on youth development (Yeah yeah, I know, what development) training facility improvements and Chelsea football schools around the world. That apparently puts us below whatever the initial figure for losses are. You have to remember that the new TV deal dosh isn't counted til the end of this season. That plus £30m a year off Adidas from this season helps massively. As you say, the fee is probably the reason. Especially for someone who's essentially, and I hate to say it, just a squad player currently.

As long as it meets FFP then that's all that matters. Roman didn't get where he is today without having very good accountants. Considering the massive debt all the Spanish teams are in, I think us and City will be fine. There's a interesting court case regarding Neymars true transfer fee coming up in Spain. The current Barca president has, allegedly, been hiding the true fee. It's said to be 90 million euros plus. We also made a profit in 12/13. That it was probably only a fiver is irrelevant...

It's all these 2nd, 3rd and 4th party ownerships that confuse the issue at times. A lot of countries on mainland Europe benefit from all this. They can get a player for a fraction of his true value. Plus they all give out work permits to anyone that can kick a ball, then sell them on for a ridiculous profit. The Barca stuff is all internal politics. With all the members they have, there's bound to be plenty that don't get on. Especially near election time.

No I wasn't, for the first time in my life I left before the final whistle, missed both of the last two goals.

I mitigation I must explain that I always go down to Old Trafford on the metrolink tram, five minutes walk from our house, 45 minutes on the tram and 10 to 15 minutes walk from either Old Trafford cricket ground or Trafford Bar. They are routing the tram lines through the middle of Oldham on a new link so the line from Rochdale/Oldham is closed right through to Central Park, just before Manchester Victoria. There is a bus service to replace it but it is a bit iffy later on.

Got the last but one bus from Central Park back to Shaw, just got home.

It was a crap game from start to finish, two very average sides, looks like I was lucky to miss the shoot out.:D

Still thenry, it did however show that United do have some fans left, how many empty seats did you see.:p:

Saving themselves for the Champions League. :dunce:

As a bit of light relief I am going to support one of my other teams on Saturday, will be watching Rochdale v Wednesday at Spotland.

Just heard someone say on Talk Sport exactly how I'm feeling about Mata - great player but what's he going to do if there's nobody to supply him the ball? His signing won't cover the gaping hole in midfield . We need a new Keane, Schools or Cantona too.

He should stop whinging and sign the one or two players he needs to win the title because that's possibly the difference between failure and glory this season but methinks he will fail to grasp that opportunity that is there for him.

He is a very good player, a bit surprised they let him go half way through the season. Still needs a deeper, Paul Scholes type of play maker. Will be interesting to see how and where he plays.

Obviously though some people have a problem whenever a manager or football gives any opinion at all. No wonder press conferences and post-match interviews are such boring affairs.

What is the players can't be found or don't fit into the squad? What if you buy a world class striker and he doesn't adapt to the Premier League? Transfers can lose you a title as well as win you one. It's especially risky when you need them to hit the ground running and more difficult when you consider that we're mid-season. Arsenal fans want Costa but he is at a team that are fighting at the top of the league, in the Champions League and for whom he is on form and looking for a World Cup spot.

Methinks Wenger has a pretty good understanding of football.

Surprised that another manager had done something he himself has done numerous times in the past? Just sounds odd to me.
