Why do BT insist on ruining football coverage with Michael Owen ? Is there a strategy?

I was thinking same thing. I even thought of commenting again on BT facebook.

They may well have him on contract. But they could get him to cover other sports...or woman's football...whatever he says now will make as much sense in any other setting...nonsense :D

And whats with the new mini desk ? it looks a bit like Jeff Stelling old CL doughnut desk lol

andy_m 02-08-2014 16:21

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I think the mini desk is because it's presenter plus two, whereas their Premier League coverage is usually presenter plus three.

---------- Post added at 16:21 ---------- Previous post was at 16:19 ----------

Surprised Owen did the first game, and isn't doing the Arsenal game. Perhaps he has dropped down the pecking order a bit?

BT have had 1+2 on the other desk before. it looks better than this.

Good! he needs to drop off altogether

It appears to be a Sky masterplan, anything else seems too ludicrous to believe.

Has anyone actually said that? I think the point that was being made was that BT were not as aggressive as Sky with the way they ran their business. I am certainly of the view that customers will get a better deal with BT but none of us expects them to operate at a loss!

If you say so , let's see their prices when the Champions League contract kicks in and they capture some more premier league matches let's see if gimmicks like free with BB and free with this TV pack are around then.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Well the new football season is almost upon us and watching some friendly games on BT I noticed BT are still continuing with the score and logo at the bottom of the screen. I was rather hoping they would of seen sense and starting putting them at the top of the screen. It always looks stupid when they show games from the European leagues and the have the BT logo at the bottom right and the score at the top left! You`d think at least for those games they`d put the logo at the top right, wouldn`t you?

Soccer Saturday will no longer air on Sky Sports 1 from 3pm to 5pm, those who have BT TV will have to make do with final score for this coming season.

Sky Sports 1 will be showing the Woman's rugby cup this weekend when the football league kicks off this weekend and the following weekend when the premier league kicks off it will show ringside 14:30 to 15:30, Formula One Legends from 15:30 to 16:45 then Saturday night football from 16:45 to 20:00

Based on what?

They are probably very well paid by Sky.

I'm sure they can afford BT Sport if they want to watch those games when they are on. Most people can if they really want to, but the majority choose not to, so far...

The red button on Sky Sports 4 has coverage before it starts on the channel at 6. They seem to be mainly following one group, but I've just seen highlights of others out on the course as well.

Possibly Vince. They're 5 hours behind remember, and last nights play went on til nearly midnight. Starts at 4pm Saturday and Sunday, 11am over there, so we'll get most of the days play I'd imagine. Scrap the highlights of other players as well :dunce: It's just Bubba, Kaymer and McIlroy they're following. They started on the 10th and are now on the 12th. Should take us through to 6pm.

I can only presume it's something to do with the host provider and their agreement with Sky. Maybe it's a cost issue and the amount sky pay for the broadcast feed. Maybe the host provider only start broadcasting at that time.
Maybe someone will enlighten us.

£6.99 per day and £10.99 per week up till 27 November. Then £9.99 and £14.99 respectively but you never know; Sky might extend the offers. After all, the Entertainment Pass was scheduled to go up to £6.99pm but did not.

So, Sky Sports 5 launches tonight!

This is quite amusing that they are launching it with their LAST season of Champions League Football! BT Sport gets the lot from next season!

Are they launching it now, so they kick off the Champions League off the Main Channels, 1&2, to get most viewers used to not having it?!

Will be interesting to see how they going to fill SS5 from NEXT season! With BT Sport already holding a fair slice of Euro Football, and on the lookout for more S55 could be over before it starts!

Don't underestimate Sky as don't be surprised if they have a project purple plan up their sleeves when the CL ends at the end of the season.

I think SKY are already at it. SKY have just launched SKY Sports 5, a channel dedicated to European football at no extra cost. BT have already stated when they get the Champions League and Europa League they will consider putting the games on a separate channel and will have to charge customers more for the channel. If BT do this then SKY can start making noise about how they launched a dedicated European football channel free of cost and threw in free broadband for 2 years to boot.

Make the most of Sky Sports 5 this season, next season onwards will be old games galore LOL

BT need Champions league badly , their channels are severely lacking when it comes to key sport , I have it included with my BB and hardly ever watch it. The key battlefield will be the next premier league rights.

And l for one expect Sky to bid very strongly for these rights and BT will be lucky if they get any more then they have already got.

After the current season, BT will have the Champions League so they will be in a far better position even if they just retain what they have. The trouble is that if they win too many rights they can't give away their sports channels with broadband which is why they set them up in the first place!

That's why they may wish to give Sky a run for their money when it comes to the Premiership rights next time around. That's the real prize.

Aye totally agree.

Does anyone know when the next rights are coming up for the EPL? we usually find out a year in advance whos getting it dont we?

If sky do bid huge for the football rights next time its us who will pay the price by another massive hike in prices. They said bringing in other providers would be better for us. It's just meant we pay more!

I doubt that's a loss to Sky.

Agreed on all counts there. Will not be bothering!

I haven't forgotten, Dave, and I know how much retaining the Premiership football rights means to Sky. But BT seem to be pretty determined themselves, and in this scenario it must surely be down to a mix of how desperate each party is and how much they have to spend. I don't think we should underestimate BT.

Word on the street is that it will be before the next general election (7 May 2015) so that politics does not get involved eg one party promising a certain number of EPL matches to be shown FTA if they are elected.

Aye, a price increase for Premier Sports looks on the cards now:

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/11...-increase.html

The Sky Sports Season ticket now looks to be available customers not on a bundle. I aren't on a bundle, but received a letter today offering me the Season Ticket. It also said that the offer would end on 1 September 2014.

Only set to increase for Sky viewers.

Still to get info from my insiders on if Premier Sports price increase may also happen on Virgin Media.

So from 1 September assuming no VM increase it will be:
£7.99pm Virgin Media
£9.99pm Premier Player on www.premiersports.tv
£11.99pm Sky platform sold by Premier Sports

What does Premier Sports say about VM being cheapest?
On Premier Sports' Facebook page 6 August:
Tina Lamb: Please can you tell me why Virgin subscribers only pay £7.99 a month and yet Sky subscribers pay £9.99 a month?? Surely we are both getting the same package.
Premier Sports: That is a good question and we recently asked the CEO of Virgin channels to explain this. Still to hear! But we will keep you posted.

I doubt that's a loss to Sky.

I understand the Dutch League is similar to that, but without much quality.
