So much for More4 HD this year.

It could launch next month as part of the More4 rebrand in my opinion.

We will have to wait and see.

I think the new logo is ugly.

Wikipedia says it is launching in december.

Channel 4 would have announced it by now if that was the case.

Whether or not you have a TiVo or other PVR (not everyone does) time-shift channels can still be useful. Those with recording facilities may have all of their tuners in use , neglected to record a programme or missed it due to unforeseen circumstances. Note that not all Channel 5 programmes are available in Demand 5 and this applies to the other channels with On Demand facilities. Furthermore, not all of the channels have Catch Up On Demand or TV On Demand libraries.

I would have thought that, with the availability of TiVo, PVR, rewind live TV and various On Demand players, the rights issues were already covered and all programming could be archived by the carrier for 24 hours, 48 hours* or 7 days. It might mean viewing programmes as aired complete with the broadcasters' advertising but that's already the case with some of the existing options and the same as if you watched it live anyway.

Okay, in the current linear channel setup +1s for every channel is not really feasible but using the On Demand service or with a new delivery mechanism, such as IPTV, it could be possible.

*IIRC, when VCRs were first introduced in the UK you were allowed to record programmes and keep them for 48 hours only after which they had to be erased. Obviously this was impossible to enforce and most people weren't even aware of the ruling but it sets a precedent for at least 48 hours of access to programmes after they are aired.

For once, a poster that agrees with me!!!

I hope More 4 Hd launches, that is a great channel!

As of right now only CBS Action has been confirmed as coming on December 13th by my insiders

Maybe one of my Virgin Testers may know more.

Thanks as ever for the update MB.

Whilst it's good that CBS Action is to appear, it does seem odd that CBS Drama is not appearing on 13 December.

I doubt it. I also doubt we will get Nickelodeon HD (Viacom owned) because Viacom would want to remove another few channels.

MTV Classic was "NOT" replaced by BET, both channels are are sky but not Virgin Media (I also want MTV Classics and BET on Virgin Media)

I have not heard anything about BET and MTV Classics coming to Virgin Media :(

Comedy Central HD replaced the MTV channels.

Blame Viacom

We have Music on demand and it is always free for XL TV customers. (also free this month to the other TV packages)

Three MTV channels have stopped broadcasting on Virgin Media.

The removed channels, which stopped broadcast on Virgin Media yesterday, are MTV Classic, MTV Shows and MTV +1.

It is rumoured that these channels have been removed so that MTV's owner, Viacom, can launch other channels on Virgin Media, including Comedy Central +1 and Comedy Central HD which are to launch on 1 September.

It's very likely true.

That is why i don't see Nickelodeon HD coming to Virgin Media. Viacom would want to remove more music channels.

They should do it. Music on TV is dead when we can get pretty much every music video (on demand & YouTube) and any song (Spotify) within seconds.

Sure other TV platforms don't have this but odds are you've got a PC, tablet or phone within arms reach so its not exactly a problem.

But VM have said the goal is to get to 80 HD stations in 2 years, i think they are more likely to give the green light to an HD station. Which brings up another point, maybe they have agreed to carry CBS Action as part of a deal to show CBS Action HD when it launches. Or maybe the Sky Atlantic talks have stalled and they thought that CBS Action would be a suitable (cheaper) substitute?

Also It says at the end of the electric magazine " watch this space" so something is happening. Virgin Media usually announce new channels in February , March or April.

Virgin Media have still not had this "HD shopping spree" yet.

With the amount of metal on Music on demand I would say that it is dead? How come they cater for all other music genre's and leave one of the biggest selling genre's

I agree with the above but I am still not sure about Nickelodeon HD.

I would rather have Nickelodeon HD than some MTV music channels.

We have Youtube , Spotify and Music On demand.

A certain person will want both ;)

Really ? That is what a lot of people think. It said that on Wikipedia since August 2010.

Quote:

MTV Classic was previously available on Virgin Media but it was removed from that platform on 28 August 2010, along with MTV +1 and MTV Shows, to make room for Comedy Central HD.

So why were the three MTV channels removed from VM then?, while they were replaced with other viacom channels just a few days later... Maybe you may feel the channels were not financially viable on VM but were on Sky... so they were removed to allow others to launch... which is still the same thing as "removing channels just to add a different one". If there is a different explanation I'd love to hear it and will consider against the generally accepted reason. I am after all these months still very angry about the loss of MTV Classic, as it was the only music channel I watched, and wading through all the on demand stuff is no substitute when you want some background music...

I think the point here is that the channels owned by a company were removed and replaced by three different channels owned by the same company.

There is no suggestion that Virgin had run out of room and HAD to take three out to fit three in.

That said, I actually WOULD value the input of a Virgin staff member to confirm.

More than likely Viacom did not want to pay for more streams on VM, but wanted to add their new Comedy Central versions.... hence the decision to remove three channels just to add others..... Contractual reasons t is a very vague statement, care to give us any examples? No matter which way it is looked at or dressed up, Viacom removed three channels because they wanted the capacity for other things.... anyway we are off topic now, so lets agree to disagree.

I have asked Virgin Media on Twitter about CBS Action, they said:

"We are always looking to add new content, we have not had this confirmed yet, we'll shout about it when we know something"

I am pretty sure that are telling Media Boy the truth and it is clear CBS Action is cmoing to Virgin Media, but this clearly shows that Virgin Media are not that good with PR!

Yes that channel would be nice as well.

Indeed it would- I enjoy the genre of drama. What did UKTV Drama morph into?

Nothing new there then ;) It sounds like the typical VM spin that they spew out to many customer queries, instead of giving a straight and/or correct answer.

I would expect a slate for CBS Action to appear in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It was renamed Alibi on the 7 October 2008

Virgin will launch Alibi HD on 2012

To be fair that's the usual company line on just about anything. Getting conclusive proof before launch time is a blood/stone exercise. We'll just have to wait...

Notice to all viewers (You may have forgot this info):

All UKTV Channels (Gold, Ailbi, Home, Eden and Bightly) will be on all packages starting from an M Package from Tomorrow to until January 4th 2012.

Will any of those UKTV channels be in HD, or just the SD versions? Because I recall there being an Eden HD channel not so long ago.

I have noticed a few posts about Virgin not having space to carry some channels, do we know how true these statements are? They appeared to have no trouble finding space for PBS and CBS Action along with the new HD channels they have added over the last few months.

It is the Broadcasters not wanting to pay for the EPG slot. ie CBS Drama as a example.

Outnumbered, Gavin and Stacey, Last of the Summer Wine (Last few series), Mrs Brown's Boys, The Green Green Grass.

I think that is it for GOLD so GOLD HD really isn't needed.

So Gold HD is not needed because Outnumbered is on Watch HD aswell
and Gavin and Stacey is on Dave HD aswell and there is very little that would be in HD on Gold.

Tests appear for CBS Action on Virgin Media.

My Virgin Tester has confirmed to me today that CBS Action is now testing on their box ahead of the December 13th launch date.

My Virgin Tester also confirmed that CBS Drama is NOT testing on Virgin.
