Good point.

It would be no exaggeration to suggest over the past 3 years there has been maybe 10 separate supposed launch dates for SKY Atlantic, on Virgin Media, posted here on Cable Forum from reputable sources including insiders and press speculation. Through out SKY have time and time again denied such rumors or stuck to their guns in terms of the channel being exclusive to their platform.

3 years after the channel launched it's still not on Virgin Media. That should tell everyone what they need to know about these supposed launch dates or positive negotiations. It should also show which source of information has been consistent and accurate through out, that's been SKY. There is simply no way this can be denied.

Agreed.

I don't think it's coming either, all I'm saying is that I know as much about the situation as your customer service rep, which is to say I don't know anything about it, and neither does she. It would have been interesting to see what she'd said had you attempted to drill her down on the details, ie. her source, was this the official company line or her own thoughts, etc.

No, Dave, it's based on media reports. This constant denial from you seems to indicate that you are positively willing the channel not to appear!

I know that you believe that Sky would lose viewers by permitting Sky Atlantic to be shown on Virgin, and maybe they would. However, they would simply address that by putting forward other tantalising offers and promotions. You are wrong if you believe that most people stick with Sky just because of Atlantic.

Just look at the other posts on here. So many people are digital TV tarts who just go chasing price offers. Clearly, the strategy works.

That assumes that nothing ever changes, Chad. History shows that is not the case.

Sky will continue to deny everything until the channel launches. Just like Virgin do. Nothing strange about that.

totally wrong ask MM ect I have called sky lots on here for withholding the channels and been wanting the channels for very long time but know they not coming did not say just SA they lose customers said all the withheld channels they lose customers as VM ect much better value

sky still say must people join sky because of SA even though the viewing figures prove that to be totally wrong as over 90% of sky customers don't watch it

ps sky are kings of withholding channels and will continue to be

...And there lies the contradiction.

If media reports say that Sky and Virgin are in positive discussions and that a deal is imminent (as they were saying last September), what is it that you know to contradict this? I respect that it is your opinion, but you don't actually know.

I agree however at this point I've yet to see anything that suggests the channel is actually coming.

The strange thing is people on here seem to fall for the same speculation over and over again. Making excuses and bending the truth to try and accommodate their own belief that the channel is coming even thought common sense should tell them not to.

I agree there has been a few articles in the press that would suggest SKY and Virgin are in talks for the channel, and have a better chance than ever in terms of agreeing a deal, however some of those articles are pushing 6 months old now.

MB, it's a bit pointless to say that. Could you not tell us whether you are talking about new channels, new apps, etc because otherwise we have no idea what to expect.

If you could say something like 'I have been given a 'Do Not Post' order in respect of new channels to launch soon', you would not be giving anything away but at least we would know whether we could look forward to it!

well OB only ones that really know how talks are going is VM and sky management every thing else is pure speculation even you got to agree with that mate I say again I do really want to be proved wrong on this as want the channels much a anyone

I only negative about getting the sky channels know what sky is like for withholding them

Well, on three months we would agree. The thing is, the media is much more credible than these 'insiders' - I don't even know if some of these actually exist or it's a figment of their imagination.

If people think that we cannot have a reasonable conversation on issues that have been the subject of media reports, then what on earth is this thread about?

As I said above, the likely cause of the delay in a launch is the Sky Bravo channel being tagged on to the end of those negotiations. These things take time and I wouldn't be surprised if this hasn't delayed the launch until early in the New Year.

People will complain that 'it was supposed to be autumn, so it can't be true' if these channels do not launch before Christmas, but the BT and Fox fiascos surely prove that channel launches often get delayed. This does not mean that the original information was incorrect though.
