Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

I was at the first home game of the season when Chelski played without any strikers, it was a dreadful game. Somehow don't see this afternoons game being much different. Even if United got hammered it would make no difference to the managers position, United don't go through managers like some clubs do.;)

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

I'm not sure sure United will get 'hammered' - it's always possible with Moyes - but I can't see us winning today. This year's top 4 will be without United.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

United line-up:

De Gea, Rafael Da Silva, Evans, Vidic, Evra, Jones, Carrick, Valencia, Januzaj, Young, Welbeck.

Subs: Giggs, Smalling, Lindegaard, Hernandez, Cleverley, Fletcher, Kagawa.

:banghead:

3-nil to Chelsea.

Man Utd have not lost for the last 7 games away so l see a draw as the favourite for today as United have a good record here.

Man Utd still have enough strength in depth to get 4th spot even though they are going through a difficult time.

We need a strong attack threat but there's no sign of that in today's team. Welbeck hasn't impressed me yet other than being in the right place at the right time occasionally this season and Januzaj is still young and can't be relied upon. Nobody else in that team offers a credible threat.

Man City will take some stopping for the title as there are formidable up front and have a strong midfield as well.

RVP has been largely anonymous in the games he's played and even with Rooney we've played like Liverpool of the 90s.

The worst thing about today was that we controlled the game for large periods, most of the game in fact. There is just no final ball at all, they're relying on Januzaj to create everything and its not going to happen every game for someone so inexperienced. Two awful decisions from the ref at the end, it was as if he knew he ballsed up the Vidic decision and let Rafael stay on, ridiculous.

It's the wife's season ticket, our daughter is getting married in April and they are off for a dress fitting tomorrow evening. We have been moved from our Upper East Stand seats to accommodate the apparently large number of Sunderland supporters that are going to attend.

They will be right behind and above us. :)

Hopefully he'll be good but don't United need a quality midfielder first? I'm worried about this - They gave Donkey 4 years to prove something and he was a waste of money. Fellaini cost around the same so does that mean we're lumbered with him for the same amount of time? If so I can't see much money being spent on another midfielder.

He is alright but in the scheme of world class footballers he is just another ordinary midfielder.

He just runs around the pitch seemingly with no real purpose or role.

We seem to be going from one extreme to another regarding Mata. Too many attacking midfielders to only one to cover 3 places. Unless we have plans to replace him with someone new or call back one of the players out on loan, if we have a recall clause that is, I honestly don't understand it from the clubs point of view. He wants to play, I understand that, but we have to put ourselves first surely.

thenry 22-01-2014 13:37

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

You'll pull Utds trousers down with the fee. That and Jose not rating Mata highly enough swings in favour of a sale regardless of what people think. On top of that there isn't really that much of a shortage of midfielders, there is though a shortage of strikers.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

If they were to sell then £40m has to be the minimum considering what players are going for. It'll be a shame though. We got plenty of strikers, just no outstanding ones....It's the 4 players for 3 spots that concern me. He'll revert to 4-3-3 for some games, which gives 4 for the 2 either side of a striker, that's fair enough. But 4-2-3-1 leaves not enough cover. I suppose Matic releases Ramires to be the right side of the 3, but that's more of a stand in than someone who plays there regularly. Oh well, I'm beginning to sound like Mike Bassett with all these formations. I'll leave it to the men that get payed a fortune to sort it.

Chelsea would be utterly stupid to sell Mata to United. I can only think Mourinho has either lost his mind, is still seeking the United job, or there is a backroom deal for Rooney in the Summer.

They wouldn't deal with Arsenal over Eto so if Mourinho must think United are not a threat. He is wrong.

I disagree. Mata can't harm Chelsea now and even if he manages to transform United in to a position where they start winning again, beating the teams ahead will only aid Chelsea.
