I find it amazing that normally all the moaners are saying they have to wait an eternity for someone at NTL to answer the phone but today nearly everyone is saying that it is answered immediately. Very strange this turnaround in response times, particularly as there are so many calling once, twice or more times to try to get a different answer to what they have already been given. Could a lot of call waiting times have been slightly exaggerated in the past? :)

It may be that NTL actually put some thought in and realised they would require extra people on the phones today, plus the upgrades don't take long to do if the people are in an area that is ready to have the speed increase put through.

I can't believe how many times the same questions are being asked today, sometimes several times within a page of posts. I think that NTL should cut back on all these free upgrades as the prospect of getting them appears to be removing brain cells from a lot of customers. :D
Well it is a long thread and we have a lot of new members that are still learning to read the whole thread before jumping in ;) Not that a few old hands aren't doing it too lol :p:

Called NTL 30 minutes ago to enquire about the changes. Phone was answered within 5 seconds of exiting the menu. I wonder if NTL have put extra staff on today expecting a large volume of calls ? Excellent service anyway. The lovely Scottish lass told me my connection would be automatically upgraded at some point and I didn't have to do anything.

Think I'll use the manual process on the web though.

this is my first post so hi!

im on the 300k service and i reckon i do over 3gb and under 10gb a month dl / ul. Im thinkin of doing the upgrade to 1mb as the cap wont be in force till later in the year but worried when it does come in, it will screw me up. Maybe by then the price will go down etc... What do you guys think

BTW this thread took me all day to read through while at work ;)

Phoned NTL CS, they have changed me from 750k to 1Mb (max that Pace STB can take), til Thursday. Then I ring after new Samsung STB is installed and they'll switch me to the 2Mb service :)

Speed changed, do I need to reset STB ?

You can pay a little more each month for extra bandwidth if you keep going over, this is the thing I'm going to do when they send me a letter or ring me up.

I just tried the upgrade thru the website and it says my username is not associated with my cable modem.

Thought maybe put wrong username so used forgotten username/password link and its not wrong!!! :erm: WTF????

Feel sorry for the team member who is stuck on 56k then ;) I notice he hasn't made an appearance for a while on this thread, must still be waiting for it to be released in paperback format :p:

Hi new to the forums here but been a long time reader, first time poster :)

Anyway just to confirm for anyone in Northern Ireland ive been upgraded to the 2mb today im in the LISBURN area, tried a few speed tests and im getting roughly 1908k/s and 198k/s uploads.

Been with ntl for about 4 years, im happy with the service provided my only gripe being that im unable to subscribe to broadband internet on its own and have to have it as part of a package with set-top box and phoneline, but anyway. Nice to finally post!

I am not sure about that, but what I do know is, the major restructuring that began 12 months ago was designed to make customer services (and the rest of the company) more efficient, and they meant it!

I am starting to see it in many other areas of the business too. Mainly little things so far, but that's where you have to start.

I'm not naive, there's still many things that are wrong, however todays events are the first *major* indication to most people 'on the outside' that things are finally getting better.

My 300k has been upgraded to 1 meg - very easy, and very quick to get through aswell!

Altough first time this woman cut me off and thought i needed a new samsung box for the 1 meg service, but anyway second time round they were very good!

I would doubt that they have put so many extra staff on that it has reduced call waiting times from the 30 min, 40 mins, over an hour, etc that are usually posted. Where would they have got all those extra staff from if they have made so many redundant? Don't forget that it is only people reading this and similar forums that would know about the speed increases.

I can see all those new members posting but I was referring to the same questions being asked a few times on the same page, not throughout the thread. :)
