With my birthday money I bought a PS4 yesterday.

Been X1 since release and thought it was time to get the PS4. So many exclusive games to catch up on.

Terramaster D5-300 RAID capable 5 bay USB disk enclosure.

Just had the USB 3 connector on my 8TB Seagate Backup Plus give up the ghost after nearly three years of service, so I though sod it. Replacing the connector is going to cost me whatever warranty I had, and a new drive is going to cost nearly £200, why not just strip the drive out ,put it in a new enclosure, and buy an enclosure that offers room to expand? It's also got a USB C connector, which seems a little more robust than the Micro USB 3 connectors do.

5 x 12kg sacks of restaurant grade charcoal. (Just under £10 each if you order 5 or more and free delivery if over £30 - used to be £50 so had to buy firelighters else delivery would be £40)

Birthday soon here, so looking around for something I need/want not too expensive.

Re: What have you just bought?

2 sets of garden waste bags (270 ltr and 2x120 ltr) from Lidl @ £7.99 a set. These are really good with two handles on the top and two more at the base to make it easy to upend at the dump and a plastic hoop that keeps the top open. I already had two of the bigger ones but needed the smaller ones as well as a spare.

The garden waste dumpsters cannot have plastic bags in so you have to empty out any and with ordinary flimsy refuse sacks that was a real pain with stuff getting stuck inside.

My sister wanted them as well hence buying two sets. She's on holiday abroad so asked me to get them.

A one year old "rescue" hamster, Walter, for my daughter to replace the one that died earlier this week. New cages on order and we hope to get a baby hamster shortly.

The idea is that they don't both die at the same time so cause less trauma. Replace one at a time.

Integrated appliances, don't think I'd bother with them in a kitchen again, they're a b****r to replace/install. Good luck ! ;) I find Special Brew helps smooth the process....

I’m letting someone competent remove the old one / fit the new one - my wife has made it very clear that there is to be no risk of damage to the kitchen flooring.

Better to pay someone a reasonable amount who knows what they’re doing, rather than pay someone a large amount to remedy my terrible DIY skills (which range from "barely adequate" to "OMG, what have you done!"). :D

Re: What have you just bought?

A folding bike!

Problem: between my bus stop and my workplace there's a little matter of a walk of 0.6 miles. I've gotten sick and bloody tired of this after 3+ years of it, but I can't face the 10+ miles of cycling to work...mostly uphill. My regular bike can't be taken on a bus, of course.

Solution: a folding bike can, though! I got one today from Argos, £130 - I think it'll do the job. Plus if I can manage to shave two or three minutes off my (former) walking time I can get a slightly earlier bus - they're every 10 mins (allegedly!), I finish at 07:30 and I can't quite walk fast enough to get the 07:36 bus...especially not after several hours' heavy labour. :(

Now I won't be walking! :p:

Sorry I forgot all about this.

My comments on Rome are :

Get a tour for the Colosseum - we didn't, and I regret not doing that - listening to some of the other tours going on I think it would have really added to the experience.
If you go without a tour guide, be warned you get timed tickets - we turned up, at midday, to be told we could get tickets that allow us in at 5pm... so either go with a tour guide, or plan ahead (you can buy online).

You can probably go without a tour for the vatican - I liked it, but the wife and kids found it a bit much - there was a lot of details on how the paintings were done, which I enjoyed, but the others, not so. Again, timed tickets without a guide, so plan ahead and get 'skip the queue' tickets. The queues for the vatican were crazy - we were walking for a good 5 minutes to get past the queues to join our tour group.

We used https://citywonders.com/ for our tour.

In terms of places to eat, I can't really recommend anything in particular - we were close to the Pantheon - and in the square in front of it there's a load of restaurants there and we ate in a few there - the food was nice, and whilst it did seem a bit of a tourist spot there were locals there too. Expensive though.

Piazza Navona was just a little way over from us - again, lots of restaurants there, very much a tourist spot, and more expensive than any of the other places - but food was good, and it's a nice view. Worth having a look in the evening around there, since they have some entertainment.

Our AirBnB host sent us some recommendations, but we didn't use them (other than the ice cream shop GIOLITTI which was very good)

I hadn't realised my son had ordered that, and my daughter had ordered a portion of fries as well, so when his pizza arrived I thought they had made a mistake and put the fries on the pizza by accident - so I was just getting ready to complain, when the other fries turned up, and my son said that he had actually ordered that pizza.....

Decadence Meets Provenance

#DEVour is a week showcasing the culinary talents of some of the most talented chefs in the UK and even further afield, including a handcrafted six course tasting menu each evening and optional accompanying wine flight.

Each evening The Devonshire Kitchen will play host to a variety of talented chefs working alongside Head Chef Paul Leonard to create a memorable evening with fine food and great wines.

Here is a laugh for you, I bought new Clinque foundation make up, and thought I would take a selfie on my phone which I never use. My face turned out purple lines, I nearly had a fit, but in my mirror it was fine, However when I met my friends and ask them to take a selfie of them on my phone. Their faces were purple too. Turns out my camera on the phone was faulty, We all had a great laugh, My phone is a pay as you go, but it quite old,

Two Amazon Fire TV Sticks.

Easy to setup.

I have noticed that they have multiple IP addresses, can't currently work out why.

A new PC - my current one (over six years old) failed just before I went on holiday (the motherboard was kaput).

Spec of new box :-

CPU - I7-9700K
Memory - 16GB
Graphics - Nvidia GeForce RTX2080X
Boot disk - 480GB SSD
Storage disk - 2TB hard drive (also re-using existing 250GB SSD and 2TB hard drive)

Hopefully this will last me six years as well...
