That's the 64 million dollar question TG and hopefully we will know soon enough.

You get 6 Sky Sports channels with 2 available in HD – plus BT Sport, ESPN and Eurosport, also available in HD. All you have to do is add a 10-month Sports Season Ticket for £150 upfront

This gives you a saving of £122.50 over 10 months at the current price of £27.25 a month

https://my.virginmedia.com/customer-...on-ticket.html

My reading of the offer is that it will just be the SD channels included and you'll still have to pay the £7.00 HD charge each month.

Even so it is still a great offer and one most Sky Sports subscribers will surely take if they can afford to stump up the £150.00 upfront.

Its basically the old XL TV pack giving you every channel plus HD channels except the premium channels and the SS HD channels the ad looks worded wrong as the HD channels appear to be £7pm extra

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

http://advanced-television.com/2014/...season-ticket/

Virgin Media has unveiled its new ‘Season Ticket’ offer. Available to new and existing customers until the close of the transfer widow at the end of August, the Season Ticket gives ten months access to Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2, Sky Sports 3, Sky Sports 4 and Sky Sports 5 for a one-off upfront cost of £150.
A statement from Virgin Media claims the savings add up to over 40 per cent compared to paying month-by-month.
Virgin Media is now delivering all the live sporting action from Sky Sports, BT Sport, ESPN, British Eurosport, Premier Sport, BoxNation, Racing TV and more. Customers will see their HD sport line-up increase on July 15th, when it adds Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Sports 4 HD and Sky Sports F1 HD whilst Sky Sports 5 and Sky Sports 5 HD will be available from launch on August 12th.
Virgin Media customers will also soon have access to all their Sky Sports channels on the go, for the first time, through a dedicated app. This will be initially available for iOS mobile and tablet devices, as well as online, with an Android version coming later.
Dana Strong, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media, said; “Virgin Media is now the home of all the major live sports in the UK in HD or on the go. This is the first time all the Sky and BT Sport channels will be available in one place, backed by superfast broadband, for a single great value price. It doesn’t matter if you are watching at home or on the go, you now have front row access to all the top sporting action with Virgin Media.”

Not at all Max!

My calculation is that have saved £12.25 per month for ten months having paid the £150 upfront.

So my O Level Maths tells me that is £122.50 saved!
If you want Sky Sports is a very good offer!

It's a decent deal, but I couldn't go back to watching sport, especially the footie in SD, the difference in quality is just too good.

No Sky Sports SD is £27.25 per month and am paying £15 per month so that is a saving of £12.25 per month for ten months.

The HD charge is not relevant to the saving... that make sense?

This offer makes Sky Sports 1 or 2 on its own for £17 a month look a bit naff!

Anyone seen the new fixture list announcement on sky sports news?? Sky are sounding desperate. First of all the complete ramming of the top 4 "more matches that matter!!" then bringing out all the third rate analysts like phil thompson and alan smith to moan and gasp at the wonderful fixtures...and then some ceo of sky sports saying to people "theyve never had it so good" as well as throwing out some meaningless statistics about 98% of matches meaning something...i diidnt really catch that part?

They look scared of BT sport to be honest never seen them act like this before.

The problem is the quantity. There are some very decent looking fixtures in amongst all that lot. And in fairness, as per last year, the better games are generally on Sky because they get more first picks, and get to choose which rounds BT use their first picks.

If you ignore the anti-sky rhetoric by some...the fixtures look fine. And not sure what else sky would say about their new line up...don't watch us :D

Funny, I like football, but I could do without it on the tv. It's locally accessible to the majority of the country and if certain competitions were kept free to air then I really don't see the need to pay to watch it on tv. A sporting series which only visits your home country once a season, which is an international tour, or which is played wholly abroad on the other hand are why I have any interest in paying for sports channels (I like f1, baseball and ATP tour tennis).

That's what I noticed , its the same with Sky who won't let you take the HD Sport without firstly taking the more expensive family pack , with the pay TV market stagnating clearly the platforms appear to be insistent we take all the premium products even if in fact you only need one.

At the last PL auction it was widely reported that BT beat the Sky bids on all but one package, Sky asked for another bid and were granted it, whether BT were offered another bid after that i don't know.

It was also reported that after BT won the CL auction Sky pleaded for 3 days to be allowed to bid again but were turned down. Interesting that Sky then said BT had paid over the odds when they were willing to bid higher.

Make of that what you will

According to this page:

you only need the Big Bang bundle to buy the season ticket.

Press release on the new deal for Sky Sports season ticket

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

It a bit smoke and mirrors this offer.
If you are with VM on the top package you probably won't see any benefit by switching. I don't anyway. It's states £84.21 but without Sky movies or hd or any additional boxes. I have 3 boxes (inc 1 TiVo), Sky Sports and Movies all year round, 152 Mb broadband and talk unlimited extra on my phone and I don't pay a great deal more than this offer.
Yes compared to sky it does make huge savings.
Yes for people who just want to watch the football for the season and want to upgrade to this then it's an ok deal.

Sky really can`t afford to lose the Premier League football rights so will undoubtedly bid a silly price in my opinion. If they don`t we could see BT having the most and best games with someone else such as Eurosport picking up the rest and Sky Sports with none.

SKY Sports 5 to show 75 live games within the first 5 weeks:

http://www1.skysports.com/football/n...ff-new-channel

"The opening five weeks will offer 24 European Qualifiers, 18 UEFA Champions League fixtures, weekend triple-headers from La Liga and up to three games a week from Holland’s top division, Eredivisie, including regular live coverage of Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and FC Twente."

What I find intriguing is what SKY plan to do when they lose the Champions League rights next year.

Perhaps buy the TV rights for leagues like the Portugese , Russian or some of the leagues in South America and maybe some of the other TV rights for other leagues which BT Sports currently have.

It's funny, until now Sky and VM have been sworn enemies yet because of BT they seem to be resolving some of their differences.

Between this, and VM's owner Liberty buying the ITV stake Sky owned, I think Sky are more worried about BT, and rightly so, considering their war chest.

Of course, as a VM customer, this is a good thing if it means the deals between VM and Sky get better, as it may translate to lower costs for premium Sky content on VM, as the currently £150 deal actually may be a consequence of their current co-operation.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

The 'season ticket offer' is a good offer but its a shame the HD still carries the extra monthly premium. Sports (and Films) in particular benefit from HD but the overall cost is still more than i am prepared to pay so i am unlikely to take up the offer.

when i first heard about the 'season ticket' i tried to find some info and found this...

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/v...-sports-lovers

You can imagine how excited i was when i read that -it indicated the bundle included HD and premier sports, racing and box nation.. now THAT would have been an offer too good to refuse.

I am not saying the sky sports season ticket is not a good offer because clearly it offers a substantial saving on the monthly price. But i still feel sports subscriptions are overpriced if you want all the channels and HD. Isnt it about time sky and virgin started to look at these HD premiums..if you have the Big Kahuna you are paying an extra £7 a month for watching 6 HD versions of sky sports channels . Not value in my eyes.

just going back to that link i posted- imagine you could pay up front or a sports package that had ALL the channels and in HD- £150 a year for that or maybe slightly more say £200 would be more reasonable. £200 a year to watch sports i think is a fairer price than the current levels and imagine what the increase in subscriptions would be.

Doug P 18-07-2014 13:24

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

I have said before the season ticket is a stonking offer even just in SD imo.

I saved money going onto the Kahuna anyway, gained much much faster broadband and landline calls at weekends, and now have saved an extra packet on Sky Sports.

The 7HD charge is not just for Kahuna of course.

Also if, like me, you have all the Sky Movies in HD then the £7 is rather better value....

Some worrying statements in that article.

"Now it will have to decide how to proceed after plumping for a “middle way” that offers BT Sport free to its own broadband customers and charges £12 a month to Sky customers. That strategy will have to shift anyway when it starts exclusively showing all Champions League and Europa League games live from 2015-16."

"Petter confirmed that those viewers who get BT Sport free would have to pay a top-up charge to watch the majority of those matches. That could clear the way for a strategy whereby BT customers get the main channels free but pay extra for a premium service – which could house the most attractive Premier League games."

So BT won the Champions League rights but it means BT Sports is going to get more expensive, even for those who get it free. SKY lost the rights but won't be putting down the price of their subscription. So from next year it's going to get even more expensive to watch what I currently already get from SKY and BT Sports. Whilst both companies are offering interesting packages and bundles when taking their sports channels, the actually cost to have both sets of channels without being part of some kind of promotional package or bundle is going to become sky high.

It's going to be about £55 per month to take both sets of channels in HD from next year

That was always going to happen. Only the deluded few could think that a price war to pay more money would help the customers.

I suspect I will choose to loose a few games, rather than pay more. Though offers might come.

Suspect next year I will watch both, depending on price, but year after, will wait to see who gets the most premier league rights, and just have that channel (whether BT or Sky)

Personally I preferred when SKY had all pay TV football rights, about 8 years ago, with international and European games featuring on free to air TV. Now we have a situation where there is 2 big pay TV players, with a fair split of attractive TV rights, with very little free to air football left. Now we're pretty much having to pay double the money to watch the same stuff we got from 1 provider and terrestrial TV. It can only get worse as bidding wars intensify. I reckon in 3 years time it'll cost about £70.00 per month to subscribe to both BT Sports and SKY Sports.

Like most people I only have so much money to spend so as the cost of watching football goes up there will come a point when I will have to choose either Sky Sports or BT Sports. At present I get BT Sports bundled in with my tv package so it isn`t too bad but if that ever changes then obviously I will have to review the situation.

very much agreed. undoubtedly bt will try to rob customers blind the minute the vm contract/CL contract starts. just like sky do. and yet ofcom won't stop this neverending tidal wave where the customer pays the price for living in the uk and being involved in such a competitive football market where each company tries to throw money to beat the other.

lovely.
