Maybe the four channels that Virgin have added are just ''Engineering'' channels.

It would appear HD Boy that you really need to watch what your posting , I've read the Smallworld boss correcting you on DS , just let the powers that be at BSKYB , Smallworld and VM negotiate and see if a deal can be done for the F1 Channel.

I will learn that the next time.

A deal will have to be done. Mainly because i can see ofcom getting involved if it is withheld.

and also what Chad said.

Can you learn it this time or from any of the previous times?

You keep posting links to 'twitter' posts and things on other forums that are really not needed over and over again.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

I for one won't be paying any extra to watch F1 and none of the people i work with will either, even though we all love a varied selection of sports from cricket (through football and rugby(both codes)) to superbikes. Sky has 5 HD sports channels, launching another for a 2 hour race every couple of weeks is scandalous and if ofcom would develop a spine it wouldn't even be open for discussion. A while ago i looked at SKY atlantic and thought, yeah i'd like that channel, now i'm really not mithered, i don't even watch SKY 1 really, people i know who originally where brimming over about boardwalk and game of thrones.. hawaii 5 o etc hardly ever bother to watch them now it was a fad and it's passed.

Couldn't agree with you more Damac.Perhaps a sixth channel for Wimbledon if they get their hands on that as well.Unfortunately, unless people start withdrawing their subscriptions it is unlikely we will see and end to it :(

I'd personally sooner avoid scheduling conflicts and see sport in HD rather than SD on a red button stream , what does it matter how many channels they have.

It matters because everytime sky launches a channel, everybody needs to negotiate to get it, all it does is strengthen SKY's hand in a market in which they are very dominant.. fair doo's to them shelling out the money to get F1, but to then have everybody who isn't a SKY TV platform subscriber (but more importantly a SKY content subscriber) get stressed about if, how and when they are getting it, and potentially having to pay more money to get it is ludicrous, take Atlantic for example... a few years ago they tried it on with Virgin about wanting more money for SKY 1, it didn't work so they repackaged the same idea, and a lot of the same shows i might add and tried it again. Would Sky be happy if Virgin went belly up because the costs of supplying quality TV was too expensive, you bet they would. Regulation is good for everybody because it ensures even a little bit of competition and choice in an almost one sided world.

The same as VM has to do with every other broadcaster.

Like the regulation what split up the TV football rights , generally costing people more than they were paying before.

I cant understand why you would be so upset about this when VM have already stated that they are in talks with Sky , give it time and see what pans out. If by the start of the F1 season its still exclusive to Sky thens the time to feel aggrieved. :)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

[rant]

To go a little off-topic for a moment, what's more sickening about the way Sky do business is when they go after pubs who have found a cheaper way to get sports coverage by going through the EU, such as with the case of one here in Portsmouth who probably couldn't afford decent football coverage otherwise. Thankfully the landlady won out, but most people/businesses wouldn't fight tooth and nail as she has done.

If people continue to pay through the nose and still get adverts, it'll never change. The sort of person who will spend £60-100 on a poor-quality acrylic shirt just because it is the season strip for their club are exactly the kind who pay £200+ or whatever for a monthly multi-box Sky subscription with all the trimmings and never use most of it anyway.

I can see ofcom getting involved if that happens mainly because F1 is a premium sport.

I am confident it will come and the HD version.

Does anyone have any idea why Sky Sports News HD and Sky News HD is not on Virgin Media because they are both basic Sky HD channels and Virgin Media have rights to any Sky basic HD channels for a incremental wholesale fee.

I would like to see Sky Sports News HD.

I can only guess Sky are asking too high a incremental wholesale fee

There are suggestions on other forums that SKY might be considering allowing their customers to use other ISP's to deliver SKY Anytime, especially with Anytime arriving on Virgin Media. Do you think Virgin could get access to SKY Atlantic HD, SKY Sports 3 & 4 HD, SKY Sports News HD and SKY News HD if they offer SKY a preferential deal to offer broadband to their customers? The deal would be similar as to how SKY channels are delivered to Virgin customers. Virgin customers are not SKY customers, it's Virgin themselves who are the customer of SKY. So SKY customers taking Virgin broadband via SKY, would still be getting the service from SKY but SKY would be the customer of Virgin. Does this make sense?

That could happen.

I'm not upset about it, to be fair when the football rights where split, it was more like there was a lot more games being shown live so fair enough alot more games equal maybe another broadcaster, and fair do's to virgin they sorted us out. My point is that $ky continually move the goal posts for no reason, they have sports channels coming out of their ears and could quite easily of fitted all of what they wanted to do with F1 into their existing setup. Personally i'd rather watch paint dry, since about 92, 93 the regulations have stifled the sport, its the reason the Americans can't take to it because most races are like a procession.

The ignore function is rubbish, mate. You can still see when someone you ignore has posted and the compulsion to click the "view this post" is too much making it pretty pointless.

I suppose the best course of action would be to ban the troublemaker. Permanently.

I totally respect what you are saying Lew, I have a few people on my ignore list. The only problem being if someone else on the forum quotes a post from the person on the ignore list you're then able to read it. It totally defeats the purpose of adding someone to the ignore list. There has to be a better or alternative solution.

Without looking through the f1 season schedule i would be surprised it they could have.
On a Sun afternoon, at any one time you could have Prem league, football league, rugby, cricket, tennis, golf.... God knows what else showing.
They could have made a tennis, golf, rugby etc channel instead. But suppose F1 is where the money is....

I bet Sky Sports will do a Prem league, football league, rugby, cricket, tennis, golf channel in the future, they might follow Sky Movies by organsing their channel by catagories, not numbers

Yes there is.It's called self control and leads to one being able to either leave a thread or just not 'pay any attention' to a certain poster.I've got it down to a fine art with some members.;)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

The mods need to get themselves together and sort this out privately and then come back to us with a solution. Half of them are having a go at hd boy for repeating himself and posting pointless tweets, the other half are deleting posts made by forum members which make the same point.

You, as a team, either want him to stop the way he posts OR you want other members to just ignore him, but you can't have both. Every time a mod tells him off it undermines the mod who defends his right to post and suggests we use the ignore function.

Totally agree however not everyone has your level of self control. That's why they use the ignore function, to take away posts from the user that offends them or pushes their buttons. Users are trying to take responsibility by adding people to their ignore list, only to have posts from that person displayed anyway when someone quotes their post. Why even have an ignore function if it doesn't really do the job?

Cannot say i blame them DF half a season free to air and half Pay tv is not ideal for F1 fans, eventually though i expect it to go fully pay TV live, the same as live cricket has.:(

+1 who's not impressed by the deal.

My gut feeling is Bernie will have egg on his face next season by doing this deal as the audience wont be nearly as much as when solely on the BBC. This obviously depends on how they are going to package the F1 channel on other platforms. Only 3 months maximum til we find out

And why suspend somebody and allow other users to post his thoughts, sent to them by private message through THIS site? To allow that and then threaten sanctions against forum members who voice their very reasonable displeasure is really pretty poor.

If you're going to start picking people up when they stray outside the boundaries of what is acceptable then you also need to deal with the root cause.
