Dont know how people can moan tivo is not officially out yet,So taking a product of this spec is bound to have problems. If you want early its something you have to put up with,I have been impressed/happy with the product from day one and the bugs are not major and now with the 3rd tuner active(and in march as promised) tivo is looking more awsome than ever.

How olds the TV?

Warranty or no warranty a TV should last a "reasonable amount of time", if it's not that old then you should be able to get them to repair it or refund based on the amount of time it lasted. Just quote the sale of goods act to them and get complaining.

I have noticed on the main home screen if you press the slow button on the remote it removes the tv screen in the top right corner,Then when you go and watch a pre recorded show when you press stop it actually does rather than continue playing in top right corner. If you press the slow button again it brings back up the screen

VM could have communicated much better, but no one has been treated badly; it's ridiculous to suggest that in my opinion.

Speak for yourself. I have a meeting with Amnesty International first thing in the morning.

Recording 3 programmes while watching another recording is a fundamental, basic, human right which VM are denying us.:mad::mad::td:

;):)

You watch, the email will read something like this:

Dear Sir,

TIVO IS ALMOST HERE!

The first available installation date for your area is November 20th. Click here to confirm your order and please have your credit/debit card ready.

It all depends upon your perspective as to if people feel hard done by VM.
Im with fixerman on this
Yes its been poorly communicated but they never in a million years have had the resources to meet the expectations of everyone that they built upon.
Again they have completly naffed off people who they really need.
Just because peeps dont post alot or dont agree with others dont mean they have not got the right to state that they are naffed off
Im with you man

But first......we've had trouble withdrawing funds from your account. Please contact Customer Services in order to pay your bill (and while you're at it, ask them just how many programmes they recorded while watching a recording!)

We had three things recording last night whilst watching a 4th recorded programme. All three recordings were HD and the recorded programme we were watching was HD. Not the slightest hiccup which is good!

It's cool having three red lights on the front of the box though. I'm glad they decided to allow us to record three things at once

Think Digital Fanatic said they would be sent out by the end of the month, don't think he mentioned the 20th though I could be wrong - and I'm not suggesting that's what you said.

Also wonder if the e-mails will be staggered to avoid eveyone trying to book their appointment at the same time, but then I can see people complaining they had to wait again.

The 20th is the closing date for "winners" emails not pre-reg.

I think DF said that the emails will go out in batches, and their was much whaling and gnashing of teeth.

Hopefully they will go in order otherwise we may have another common uprising on our hands!

Tried searching but didn't find anything, had Tivo installed Wednesday and was a little disconcerted to find that unlike the S1 you can't specifically save to DVD. Does anyone know if, when the Tivo is attached to the TV by HDMI, it also plays back on the SCART socket, if so I can attach my recorder to that and just replay individual programmes that I wish to archive with the TV switched off. I could experiment I know but don't want to plug things in and out only to find it doesn't, idle I know, but the old knees ain't so flexible any more.:(

Yes, HDMI and scart are both active, so you can do it that way

Yeah I realise that I was thinking (perhaps wrongly) from Gavin-D's post that someone had said an e-mail was going out to everyone on that date.

Thanks for the reminder about the e-mails going out in batches I had forgotten that - there's so much to remember in this thread!

Re: TiVo

A question re channel buffering if I may. I would have assumed that if no programmes were being recorded, that the other tuners would be on the last two channels that were on. In other words, if you switch the box on and enter 101, then change to 102 and then change to 103 obviously one tuner is on 103 the channel you are watching, I thought the other two would be on 101 and 102 and buffering them. This doesn't seem to be the case however, the other tuners just seem to assign themselves to a random channel and stay there.
As an example, last Saturday (in the old days when we only had two tuners!) I wanted to watch the Rugby but have the other tuner buffering the football, so if I flicked over and had missed a goal I could rewind it. But despite constantly flicking between those two channels the other tuner obstinately stuck on E4 or some other rubbish. The only way I could get it to do what I wanted was to record both programmes to "force" the tuners to be where I wanted them.
This still seems to be the case with three tuners instead of two.
Is there a way of assigning another tuner to be on a particular channel without actually recording that channel?
Sorry if that's a bit long winded, but hope it makes sense!

You can manually assign the tuners to the channels you want.

Press Info and select the bottom image of the 3 record icons, from there select one of the tuners then change the channel.

Then repeat for the other tuners, then its a case of changing the channel either directly inputting the number or using that same method and it should still keep the buffer for the channel so you can rewind it :)

That makes perfect sense to me! And I actually have experienced the same thing. I was testing that last night. I THINK it stays on the last channel that was recorded but I am not sure of that.

It would be better if it behaved in the way you have described though.

Press Info and select the bottom image of the 3 record icons, from there select one of the tuners then change the channel.

Then repeat for the other tuners, then its a case of changing the channel either directly inputting the number or using that same method and it should still keep the buffer for the channel so you can rewind it :)

And there we have our answer - cheers Stephen!

That's great, thanks Stephen (and DF) for the info. Just as a matter of interest, do you think it would be better if the other tuners were by default on the last two channels you were on? Assuming you weren't recording anything obviously!

Once you set the tuners the way DF and I mentioned then they will stay there until something is due to record and it means that if you had the 3 tuners set to BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. Say you were watching BBC1 and changed to ITV the TiVo would just switch to the tuner thats already on ITV rather than changing the tuner that was on BBC1.

Does that make sense?

Yes, I see what you are saying. But I would have thought that a better option would be for the tuners to constantly change with you, so one is on the channel you are watching, one on the last channel you were on and the other on the last channel before that. Again assumimg that nothing is being recorded.

I think that would be too complicated to do, although it does sound like a good idea.

Thanks for registering to be in the running to get one of 1000 TiVo boxes, to enjoy on us for a year.

As much as we’d have loved you to win one, sadly you weren’t successful in securing a free TiVo box in our prize draw.

If you’d like to upgrade to our supercharged TV service, just sit tight. We're launching in April so we’ll be in touch in the coming weeks with an exclusive offer, just for our customers.

And in the meantime, you can take another look at what our TiVo service can do for you.

Just read the last few posts, and it seems that in my excitement I also made the mistake of thinking the 20th March would be the date that I would be pre-ordering TiVo. I really should read things properly, but this "TiVo-fever" is clouding my judgement.

That had better be the 149 pounds with free install that the other people have paid (who didn't win a free one). Who thinks it will be 149? :)

Don't mean to sound negative but I doubt that will be the case. I haven't found them very forthcoming with freebies lately. Just had a new "super" hub which has a worse wifi signal than the Virginmediahub, when I called to ask for 5m of cable to move it to a different room I was quoted a £99 "relocation charge". So I won't be holding my breath for a free install. It won't stop me getting one though!

Maybe they'll give us a break and charge us less for inconveniencing loyal customers? Certainly seems to me now loyalty counts for nothing and you may as well cut and run and sign up with who offers you the best deal at the time.

I've found this whole thing pretty frustrating and doubt my initial vent on this forum made much of a difference. What annoyed me most was people being given it free ahead of people who actually want it and would pay.

it to do with what package your on for free stuff. if u was paying over 100 quid to virgin u who wouldn't want something for free, of course u would end of the day all virgin have done is rewarded high paying customers with next gen digtal box. i'm lucky i got the call for one it all i deserve with the service i had since christmas.

i've been constantly ringing up for an update on a fix for my net going down every couple of days got sorted in feb they new superhub few weeks later since then not had a problem with. end of day i was in same boat as most who haven't got it waiting for the call then roughly a week ago i got the call.

funny thing is just got exact email every one has got but i already have install date and confirmed last week when senior tech fella rang and contract through the door.

I don't think he was having a go at those who had a free TiVo Harry, he was just asking if all pre-regs would get free install, like others who paid for the box only. Congrats on the TiVo by the way!

Did you win a free one in the raffle, get one given for free for other reasons or did you pay fo it; if you paid, how much did you have to pay?

The trouble with the 'you haven't won' email was that it didn't distinguish between current customers and those who had registered.

The email we got after registering said we would be one of the first to get Tivo because we registered; this one doesn't separate pre-reg customers from non pre-reg customers.

Had mine fitted at 2 this afternoon and I must say I am disappointed.................

Still not made me a cup of tea, taken dog for walk or made the bed

I thought it was all singing and all dancing

On top of that I now have to record loads more to fill it up with stuff to watch.........:(

This is so annoying, have wasted 3 hours just playing so missed out on quality TV watching.

Will be on to retentions in the morning asking for compensation for not taking the place of a robot :dunce:

It seems that the engineer did not leave all the extras with it ( A teasmaid, A 4 mile long lead and also a electronic bed spread that comes as standard extras ). So sorry that you have wasted 3 hours :(

What part of, "It's a raffle, only a 1000 people will win" don't people understand?

The ones who didn't get a free Tivo weren't 'conned', they just didn't win the raffle; there were way more that didn't win than those that did.
