Anyone please tell me if you have to give back the old router after being upgraded to 200mb? No mention of it in the box provided.

on my last two shubs I had a piece of paper inside telling me a tech would be round within 2 weeks to collect it but it never happened so I took them down to the council tip to make sure there were recycled properly

To my complete surprise the rep I spoke to asked me to stay on the same package, and if I did I could have the movies package and the speed upgrade to 200mg, all for the same price. Of course I accepted this really good deal. Just shows that if you are nice to the reps on the phone and don't go on the bounce you can really do well. Up and running an hour later with speedtest.net showing 210mg speed. New contract of course, but not really bothered about that. All in all a good result.

I rang to cancel and switch to Sky/BT, so they upgraded me to 200Mbps + TV XL + M phone with 2x TiVO boxes, for half what I was paying before when we had just the one TiVO box. £40/month for all that isn't so bad, especially when it's only a 12 month contract. So maybe going on the bounce works after all. Yin/yang lol.

Tremendous deal.

I'll keep this deal in mind when the annual renewal comes round :D

I've been offered an upgrade of 150MBit up from 100MBit

But the recent testing in my area showed 200Mbit was fine on my network. It worked well. Is this normal?

Not sure what you mean? The inclusive speed boost is for customers currently on 100Mb to go to 150Mb.

If you want to go to 200Mb you can do that, but it's a different tier of service so is a paid upgrade.

Thanks.

Throughout the last year, my speed has been 200Mbit (even though I pay for 100MBit), and the service has been good. I had presumed therefiore that anybody on 100MBit would be upgraded to 200MBit as per the testing, and as per the opening post of this thread.

But it's just 150Bit for those not wishing to incur anymore costs rght?

I have no problem with this, btw, it's a nice upgrade.

200mbit didnt exist last year for customers, 150mbit is a different tier to the 200mbit tier.

The 3 speed tiers will eventually be 70, 150 and 200, ignore the opening post.

When the trial was on my speed went to 300Mbits. I was disappointed that the grades were to a lower speed.

You'd be more disappointed if your area got hit with congestion as a result. 300mbit is usless if you can only pull in 20.

We'll see 300 eventually.

Out of interest, for those people that were upgraded as a part of the normal process (e.g. didn't call up saying they would cancel or renew a contract etc), are your now on QAM 64 on upload?

BenMcr 28-10-2015 11:31

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades

There should be no difference as there is only one configuration on the network per broadband tier.

Our upgrade isn't until the end of November but we've been on 2 x QAM64 for several months now. The evening hump on the ping monitor has also gone so I guess both are evidence of network improvements ahead of the speed uplifts.
