I did this on the basis of the hype put out by Virginmedia that the new box would be available, possibly by the end of December. All this cloak and dagger stuff is just going to p**s people off.

Virginmedia should come clean and give us a firm date when installations will begin. If they cannot do that it proves that what we have at present is a box software combination that is not ready for release to the market. Call it a beta release if you wish.

VM will give the full launch date when they are ready too. At present they launched to 500 staff, which was a proper launch as they are paying customers not beta trialists. That would have been ongoing for months already to get it to the level needed to start rolling out.

I imagine that the full customer rollout will start as soon as they have an idea how many people are interested and that they will have enough equipment available.

I think people need to stop speculating and guessing about VMs plans and just wait till the give an actual date. Its not really cloak and dagger stuff, if they gave a date and then missed that date people would still moan so the best thing is to provide a rough idea of a time scale for release and not announce an actual date till things are fully ready.

If I recall VM never actually stated it would be available for install in December, even the TiVo mini site states the following

I spoke to a scottish lady at customer services this afternoon to turn off the movie channels, she said her team leader is having Tivo training today.

You're quite right Stephen, but they do also at the same time contradict themselves by saying it's available 'now'. I don't mind waiting but at the same time I don't like being misled I guess.

Teased, rather than mislead :)

They don't really as they don't actually mention who it is available too ;)

If I remember correctly the Q4 2010 date was given in one of the financial statements and thus on a financial timescale Q4 2010 would be Jan to March 2011? Please correct me if I'm wrong

hello all, just a quick bit of news i was given today from retentions as my contract ends on February 4th i spoke to a man there to ask what sort of deals i could get I'm currently on XL TV, XXL BB, & m phone, i told the guy I'm paying nearly £94 a month & that thats not far off what people on VIP 50 are paying, he said all he could do was give me a £4 discount & put me on a rolling contract as my contract hasn't ended yet, while i was talking to him i asked about Tivo, if he had any news, he said Virgin will be Announceing on the 15 January that you can order your Tivo box from The 15 Th February, he said that the initial take up from Pre registration has made Virgin have to order triple there original order, ill be calling back 2nd week in February if this is true, hope this helps.

As a bit of a break from Andrew Shearman asking daily when he can have TiVO, Cisco are supposedly showing off 'connected cable products' today at CES:

Wonder if our custom TiVO will get some time in the spotlight?

I don't get it, if Tribune are supplying the EPG and other metadata what does the TiVo subscription pay for? I assumed the TiVo monthly fee was for TiVo to manage that data?

TiVo source a lot of their metadata from the same place, so it could be a case of VM sourcing it directly, or having two sources of data. Either way it costs.

Tribune have always provided the guide data for Tivo. Tivo develop (and own the rights to) the software. Either way, as noted above, both Tivo and Tribune have costs (and the desire to make profits).

Again a claim that Tivo has begun to roll out?

Cindy Rose, executive director of digital entertainment at Virgin Media, said, "After laying all the necessary groundwork to bring the exciting TiVo experience to our customers in record time, we are thrilled to have begun rolling out our next-generation entertainment platform."
