Hi DerekS, Didn't you know that referee's in Scotland are more biased than English ones, that why Celtic and Rangers go through - its called money.

If you took Rangers and Celtic out of Scottish football, you wouldn't have any football, years ago, there used to be some great teams in Scotland ie Motherwell, Aberdeen, Hearts, etc, but it is all about Celtic and Rangers, that is why they always win on dubious decisions.;) That is why they cannot get into the English league, which they tried to do two years ago.:)

I think if Celtic and Rangers were allowed to join another league the set up they leave behind would be far more competitive. There would be the opportunity for any of the clubs you mentioned and Hibs, Dundee United etc, to actually win the league. Unfortunately they rely heavily on the money generated by the popularity of the Old Firm.

I have seen some Scottish games on TV and most of the grounds are empty, like a reserve game in English football, l find it really sad, As they do have some good clubs in Scotland, in fact l watched a tv Doc on Scottish football, and they had some guy who flies to watch Inverness at all games, and he lives in London.

I cannot see why, they don't almalgamate the two League, and l think the smaller clubs would benefit financially. When you think Celtic would fly down to there games and stay at a luxury hotel, whereas a club like Brechin would come down by train and probabely go home the same day (And that is nothing against Brechin).

The reality is there are too many senior football clubs in Scotland. A population of 5 million with 40 senior teams compared to England with 10 times the population and less than 3 times the amount of senior clubs. In the past there has been talk of amalgamating teams, e.g. one team from Edinburgh and Dundee but that wuold never work. Hibs, Hearts, Dundee and Utd are teams with their own rivalries. Theres no way they would stand on the terracing together to support an "Edinburgh Utd".

Is it me or is it a really close season this year with the bottom 14 clubs all within 11 points of each other....

You're not allowed to say that... West Ham still have to get out of that zone! :p:

Isn't it strange how penalties are given at Man Utd, the referee must have been thick and stupid, to have given the most craziest penalties in my life, But there again, it was Old Trafford, and the ref. must have been scared of Sir Alex.

A penalty is given, when a player is brought down, in the area by the intent of serious foul or prevention of a goal scoring chance, what the Utd player did was fall over the side of the Everton player, and then fall over a second Everton player.

Arthur old bean, I'm assuming you missed the penalty towards the end that the ref didn't give to United, when Lescott brought down Carrick?

RussB, l switched it off after that, l thought it would be one of those games, its like the game the other day with Liverpool, the commentator said that Everton haven't had a penalty in that game for 71 years, would you believe that.

You called?

Re: Football : Season 08/09

Arthur, what that player actually did was fall over the leg that the Everton player stuck out and if you did watch the same penalty that I did, you should have seen that Carrick did try to stay on his feet, instead of going over after the slightest of touches, which is something that you gone on about Ronaldo doing all the time. Cannot win...do something that every other team does and go to ground as if shot, we are in the wrong; try to stay on their feet, we are wrong again...what should they do?

The Chelsea V Liverpool game, was another game where Mike Riley drops another clanger, there should have been TWO red cards.

The Frank Lampard incident was 50/50, but what about the incident on the corner flag, where the Chelsea player used his boots with studs showing on the Liverpool player, to shove him over, Red Card straight way, but what happened - nothing.

This is what l have always said - no officials consistancy.

It's the old chestnut Arthur, if the referee does not see it........

Anyway, agree with the Lampard one, I have seen worse, but the result was right in the end ;)
