Yes and another application of some real grit to deprive SA of what should have been their first win of the series! So it's one up with one to play - far better than I'd expected.... :)

I agree with Graeme Swann when he said England are single handedly keeping test cricket alive :D

Re: Cricket

What he actually said was:

"We're disappointed with that final 50 run partnership but the way Straussy went out and played, keeping Test cricket alive at 100-1 we're over the moon."

I do think that some of the terrifically exciting matches there've been over the last year or two (including this one, some of the recent Ashes tests and Australia's recent win against all the odds) have done a great deal to prove that test cricket has a future.

Sad fact is England are the only draw in test cricket, we are the only nation that packs out stadiums when we visit, Kiwi's don't bother going in vast numbers to see them play the West Indies or South Africa for instance, the only other place where you can guarantee a crowd in on the Indian sub continent. That said Test cricket still has a future, it's the purest and hardest form of the game and long may it continue.

Another sad day for cricket with the bookmakers forcing a bright talent to hide in the UK rather than compromise his integrity :(

Agree. I think it's the tip of a very big iceberg to be honest. Due to the movement of influence eastwards, the sums involved in this are so huge and the networks behind it so powerful that I think our beautiful game faces a desperate future. The ICC needs to act decisively but I won't be holding my breath.

There is more to this story than meets the eye.

He has now applied for asylum and wants to play league cricket and coach children over here.

If the Pakistan government can protect his family, they for sure can protect him.

Re: Cricket

So the ashes start tonight/tomorrow morning, any predictions?

I'm going for a drawn series 2-2 so England will retain the ashes.

Anyone have any tips for staying up all night? :)

Re: Cricket

I'm told the trick is have a cup of coffee immediately followed by a 15m nap at about 2am & 4am.
I'm on a course this week, so I'll settle for the last few overs in the morning.

I think i'm going to go with the red bull and coffee option rather than that...

I stayed up long enough for Strauss to lose his wicket.
Not a great day for England :(
Hope they can pull something out of the bag today.

I managed to stay up until tea, so missed the collapse in the final session. Apparently its cloudy and windy in Brisbane today so should be good bowling conditions, fingers crossed.
