Surprisingly *very good* quality.
With the choice between watching those *without* all of Lucas' later messing around, or watching my BDs with 1080p video and DTS-HD Master Audio *but* with said BS, I'm happy I went with the Despecialized Editions for this re-watch, and I'd go with them again next time. |

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Well, I'm glad to see the generally high ratings for The Force Awakens - I've booked a ticket for the 31st...to give myself a bit of leeway re the kids. Past experience has taught me the wisdom of this approach.
Learn from experience, I do! :p: |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Spectre 5/10
|
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Star Wars 7, a very generous 8/10.
I have to say it did make me feel a bit old. Though the more I think about it, it'll probably end up 7/10 (Maybe less). |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Tangled (had to watch with sister a couple of weeks ago) gets a very generous 3/10 from me, Get Smart gets a solid 8/10 and The Other Woman gets a 9/10. I'm knocking a point off that rating because of a VERY shallow reason. Namely, no Nicki Minaj in a bikini. See, I said I was shallow.

IMO it is just a formulaic paper thin plot to fill in between the action sequences. Gone are all the great characters like Oddjob, Rosa Kleib, Jaws ETC. M, Q and Moneypenny are all duds and none of the Bond girls would turn a head while walking past a building site. The franchaise is a dinosaur from a bygone era that is well past it's shelf life. |

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The Force Awakens - at least 9.8 out of 10!
Oh, BTW, I didn't see any of the supposed bloopers...but that's probably because I wasn't bloody well looking for them!!! I was doing what - correct me if I'm wrong - you're supposed to do when you go to see a film: I watched the damn film!!! Bloopers be bleeped!!! I was greatly concerned - as of course were hundreds of millions of Star Wars fans worldwide - that the spirit of the original film could never be recaptured. We needn't have worried. J.J. Abrams got it spot on. Spoiler:
Looking forward to the next one! Admin edit (Chris): please use spoiler tags to avoid spoiling other people's enjoyment of the film. Consider reading a few other sources for pointers on writing spoiler-free reviews. |

We'll give Star Wars another week, but after that, they are not going to be required. |

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The Hateful Eight: 7/10 - Long film but well worth a watch. It's just an interesting story which isn't so much about twists but finding out about the characters and watching the plot unfold. There were suggestions that Tarantino wrote it in a way that it could be performed on stage and it shows. I saw the 70mm version too which was cool.
Creed: 7/10 - Good film. Not much to say about it really. You like the characters and you feel involved with the story rooting for them. The Big Short: 9/10 - Awesome film! Funny and engrossing with some interesting ways of explaining what is happening. The soundtrack is very good too. It's one of those films that requires very little work on your part in terms of keeping your attention. It grabs it early and never lets go. You really don't care how long it's being going on for or how long is left. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The Hateful Eight: 8/10
I particularly liked Jennifer Jason Leigh's portrayal of Daisy Domegue. Creed: 8/10 Was just expecting a re-boot of Rocky. Well that's what it is but I still loved it. :) |

Spectre - 5/10
Hoping it's just an intro to a further movie or even it's own trilogy to further what was merely an introduction for this villain (Didn't want to spoil a twist even though half of the Internet already knew it) |

Star wars force awakens, hate to say it but I was a bit disappointed, pretty lazy story and as far as remakes, reboots or whatever goes I preferred creed
|
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Bridge of Spies, a good 8/10
Has that typical 'Spielberg' American fare type of feeling to it which stood out a bit too much, it let it down a little. But a great story nonetheless. Legend 8/10 Tom Hardy nailed it I must admit. But obviously it's all been done before with 'The Krays' (1990) so learnt nothing new. I think I do prefer the 1990 version slightly more though. |

Deadpool - 8/10
Very, very funny, very violent (it's a 15), and very enjoyable. Kick-Ass meets X-Men meets Snatch. Don't miss the opening credits or the "teaser" at the end of the film. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Barney Thomson 6/10 Tom Courtney is very funny.
The Revenant 7.5/10 (they could have made the bear more realistic) |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Deadpool -9/10 fantastically amazing.
Really is everything I hoped for. The end credit scene was really cool. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Totally agree - the audience at the showing I was at laughed out loud en masse at a couple of the lines/scenes.
The opening credits are very amusing as well. |

I saw it in 3D IMAX because my son-in-law bought the tickets - I, my son-in-law's father, my son-in-law's two friends, and my daughter enjoyed it; my son-in-law wasn't so keen, but he didn't feel the need to disparage others because of it. Do you have any proof that reviewers were paid to score it well, or are you just repeating internet gossip? Considering it took $424 million on it's opening weekend, you would have thought if it was so bad, word of mouth would have killed it (like it did for the FF4 remake). |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Quote:
Personally I liked it in 3D. Also the critics did give the film a hard time and some would say they had it in for the film from the moment it was announced. 90% of all my friends and family that have seen the film did in fact enjoy it, don't get me wrong its not perfect by any means though. As for paid reviewers that is just internet rumour/gossip. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The thing is a lot of critics like to hear their own opinions a lot in my humble opinion but alas they have never erected a statue for a critic yet and never will.

Alright, Deadpool 10/10
Production hell for so many years and I struggle to see why. This is easily up there if not beyond Winter Soldier. Absolutely killed the memory of the monstrosity the first Wolverine origin story left us with. |

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The Hobbit. 6/10. Superb cinematography as we've come to expect from Peter Jackson but, as I feared, the story is too thin to support a long film let alone a trilogy and the escape sequence from the Orcs in the Mines of Moria was rather too fanciful.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Yeah, it is the first film i have ever seen where all the animals look real. It was really well made and refreshing to watch because i havent seen the original since i was 10 and i couldnt remember any of the story at all.
|
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
They did it just right, couple of songs, but not over the top, animals did look real, I could see children being completely taken in.
|
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
The new Jungle Book is faithful to the original story, NOT the Disney soppy rubbish.
I mean if you read the original text to our fairy tales eve some adults would have nighmares. Look at Cinderella, the glass slippers were actually FUR, it was a mistranslation, and at the end the ugly sisters cut of their toes to try and make the slippers fit. |

Okay I wasn't expecting much to begin with, but wow what a stinker. |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
oh dude that movie was fantastic. Yes it was far fetched and a lot of things had to go wrong and it was completely unrealistic but I would give it a solid 7/10. It is what I call a classic Sunday afternoon movie; excellent entertainment.

I loved Olympus has Fallen and London was just more of the same. Great mindless action movie. Don't think about it too much and it is enjoyable.
Grimsby - 6/10 - Usual SBC fare. Very funny in parts but some jokes were too off the wall even for me. Some scenes could have been left out. ie the elephant bit!! |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Indeed its pure escapism and people just have to take these films for what they are and not get too serious sometimes.

wow, we just watched this, missus and I really really enjoyed it, so funny, so exciting, I'm guessing Mr Lee loved his cameo even more than he normally does :) |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
X-men: Apocalypse - 5/10
Starts well, drops off in the middle and ends on a pretty mediocre tone. Riddled with the same stupid arguments as all the others. With even new stupider back stories for future character redemption. Same old cliches. The usual great action scenes and CGI etc. Literally has nothing on DOFP though. I struggled to spot the difference between Mystique and Katniss. Its almost as if they asked her to copy the character emotion. This and Civil war were my two big Superhero movies of the year and its obvious Civil war wins pretty easily in the end. Ultimately, Deadpool was the true winner overall though. An easy 10/10 |
Re: Rate the last movie you saw
Warcraft 8/10
Great movie for WoW fans alike but I can see why there's negativity. I was left confused at various parts and forgetful of lore. There'll be massively different reviews, I can't see many watching this without knowing the lore and then enjoying it. We'll get some truly epic sequels should it make it that far. The film started ahead of the very start of the lore. So stories like the Lich King will need introductions as will the scourge. Then again that would be the same way the game did it. Still got the rise of thrall to go, the under city, the formation of Durotar and rise of the horde and the start of Orgrimmar. I'm not sure whether a hobbit style fantasy would have been better. They've really stuck to the source orcs and mages and thus a massive CGI barrier is formed. Each to their own but I know folks that were expecting them to move away a bit and go down the hobbit style route. |
