Just to throw a probably unpopular thought into the discussions here: If VM have done a deal to include BT sports FOC in XL and VIP, I would imagine it will have cost them more than they were paying ESPN. That would deplete available funds for the missing non sports channels that everyone is clamouring for, namely Sky Atlantic and Universal HD. Do they become even less of a future possibility for addition to VM?

You should remain skeptical, a lot of rubbish is floating around.

Perhaps most people on this thread are unaware that Liberty Global, who now own VM, had their Q2 results webcast yesterday.

Mike Fries, Liberty's CEO, mentioned BT Sports and in a nutshell, there is no agreement for the BT sports channels to come onto cable.

Fries explained that he invited BT's CEO and Sky's CEO to meet him and the new VM management board in London last week. Despite the face-to-face contact, no agreement was reached to get the BT channels. Fries hopes to get them in the future but only at the right price, as he perceives it to be.

Another interesting tit bit was to do with Horizon, Liberty's own cable box software which is launching in Ireland and Germany now. Fries explained that he demoed a cloud based version of Horizon, with the hope of eventually doing away with cable boxes altogether.

If I recall correctly you originally started it by calling MB a liar which didn't enamour you to the vast majority of forum members and blotted your copybook for future posts - but luckily as you are now "giving it a rest" we can all go back to respecting each others contribution even if we don't agree with it

Perhaps but, it could also cause a surge of customers to move to XL which would increase profit..It's all swings and roundabouts :)

But given that other people are moving to Sky, which surely the CEO's office know about and should be concerned about, what is the hold up? Did they give you an explanation or a hint of what it is?

It seems strange that VM CEO's office could persuade you to stay, whilst seeing other customers defecting to Sky. Something doesn't add up.

Soz for the delay been offline, you are right I was on the verge of moving back to sky.over the years I had all 3 providers and out of the 3 I do prefer vm.it wasnt the fact we lost espn it was the fact we lost 4 big channels that have devalued the xl pack and quite frankly the VIP as well and still waiting for sky Atlantic and universal hd just to name a couple.A certain person no here as twisted what some of us as said regarding alternatives,NOTHING CAN REPLACE ESPN BAT BT SPORTS but I was disappointed that vm didn't sign up a couple of the big missing channels especially sky Atlantic whilst they are still in talks.Again these were by no means ADEQUATE REPLACEMENTS but it certainly would have proven talks eventually get somewhere.
My change of heart is down to a number of things loyalty, customer service, tivo and the all round package,I always believe loyalty is rewarded and regarding customer service there are not many companies out there that when you send a email to the ceo's office and you get a response let alone a phone call, sky don't do it and bt certainly don't.
When I received my call I was hopenly honest was listened to and whilst nothing was guaranteed she was at least honest made notes and actually very complementary towards a couple of my suggestions in particular to the lack of communication between customers and vm,I explained that a lot of the anger was down to the fact some customers still didn't know till they turned over to watch espn that it had gone.BT SPORTS IS THERE TOP PRIOTY and I do believe a deal will be in place very soon.what we do have to understand that even when a deal is sign they do not flick a switch and there on even than as a time frame.ITV HD channels is proof of that.
Yes I did get very generous discount but no disrespect to anyone on here I would like to keep to myself but I will say my loyalty as very much been rewarded ;)
The fact the vm are letting customers out of there contracts doesn't mean they have Given up if anything it's just proves my point regarding customer service,as she said to me we want happy customers and whilst we don't want customers to leave we fully understand there frustration.
I hope this clarifies a few things for people and whatever you all choose I hope it's the right one for you,but remember don't always go with your first instinct think about it and weigh up the big picture.
Jesus my arm is starting to ache here :)

That's the point i made the other day. when somebody told me it was "good business sense" for Virgin not to get it. me and my household want the VIP, but only if it has BT Sports. if it doesn't we will opt for the bare minimum custom setup that includes HD Sky Sports, and use the savings to pay BT Sports via sky freesat. Probably cut about £30 off the bill. So they will actually make much less money off me personally if they don't get BT Sports.

I reckon Liberty Global has altered the mentality at VM. I think rewarding Loyalty is the way they're going about things and if that's the case, things (eventually) should get better. :)

that would go against the british ethos of ripping the loyal customer off...so if it happens, it would be good.

Might encourage positive reinforcement elsewhere :D

At the end of the day, they have to get the right combination of making the shareholders happy and making the customers happy. I suppose for this, they need to take more time negotiating for the best deal for everybody.

Yeah, it would. Virgin Media can make decisions but the final say has to come from Liberty Global HQ in London. (Why their HQ is in London is beyond me)

Their real HQ is in Denver, Colorado. This is where Mike Fries and John Malone (Liberty's majority owner) are based. For tax reasons, the HQ is now listed in London. In a sort of way, Liberty has become a subsidary of VM.

Can you all please stop reporting posts in this thread, unless they are *seriously* abusive or represent some other major breach of the forum rules. We are getting fed up of members using the report post button simply as a means of feuding with each other and are not far off using the infractions system to put a stop to it if you can't stop yourselves.

Sorry if I did anything untoward. Although suspect I would have been hit first had I done so.

Anyway, back on topic. Looking forward to seeing what happens with regards to new channels. Relative called retentions today and she was told that BT would be launching in time for the new season. Whether that was to keep her or not I don't know. But the more Virgin say it is on the way, the more optimistic we have to be really.

LOL!

The VM forums are stating that VM have agreed a deal with BT to carry BT Sports, but it won't be on the XL package. The delay is because they are trying to get the best deal for their customers.

They better pull the trigger sooner rather than later.

Well lets hope talks are concluded successfully before the start of the PL because if its still not available to Virgin by that time then l am afraid there is likely to be considerably more anger come that time.

I was given online access to BT Sports by using my brothers account. Been watching it for a while now and i can't say I'm blown away. There are an awful lot of talking heads that annoy me. Matt Dawson is terrible and I just want to punch David James for his dreadful Sideshow Bob hairstyle.

Seriously lacking in content and I can't see where it might come from.

On another matter, the 4 test channel, anyone got any updates on what they might be? Are the still testing?

You missed it. Maybe 3 or 4 days ago the guy with the Crystal Palace avatar said just that down to the quote. That it makes good business sense not to get BT Sport. It has been my favourite moment on the forum so far due to the sheer level of lunacy attached to it. And all his cronies came right in and all backed him up of course. Read back through my post history because i responded to it a couple of times. You simply missed it, but thankfully you acknowledge you must have missed it so no worries. just responding to your post to confirm i've seen it.

BT Sport looks very professional based on what I've seen from that stream. Not a playout cock-up in sight!

And then Helen Skelton came on. Thats worth the £15 a month for it alone.

Except for at 8pm in the evening she was telling us what was coming up on BT Sport "this afternoon"

OLD BOY 03-08-2013 20:58

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

I do have to say that everyone needs to calm down about this.

What may have happened is as follows:

1. VM 'accidently' put a board up on their TV platform indicating that BT Sport is coming soon. Bomber AF reveals the strategy. This leads to BT deciding that VM has breached the confidential agreement reached between them and reneges on the arrangement to provide BT Sports on 1 August. After all, VM viewers had become convinced that they would get the channels from day 1, so they were not inclined to jump ship to BT.

2. Then there is all the hysteria on this thread about how dreadful VM are for not bringing us BT Sport, with people threatening to ditch the platform. This just encourages BT to wait a bit longer in the expectation that those who are impatient will come over to them. BT have nothing to lose by waiting.

So perhaps we should all just shut up about this and calm this thread down. While BT see the amount of anger on here it will just keep the interim window open to try and get more customers.

So if anyone on here really is thinking of jumping, could they please do so now rather than just whingeing on about it. Once the thread calms, perhaps BT will relent. But not before, IMHO.

If you really want the channel here before the 17th, Mum's the word. Ignore the agitators that are just trying to stir you up.

BT are clearly picking a fight with Virgin over broadband. I support Virgin fighting back. The only winner is Sky who BT claim to want to compete with. They've picked the wrong battle. Keep up the good work Media Boy.

Was it credible though as he had not posted for quite a while before then and then suddenly out of the blue decided to post huge headlined information that would set the tongues wagging and the minds thinking without any credible source to back it up.

Could it have been a VM plant (cue jokes) to find out the strength of feeling for/against BT Sports and what price would be acceptable?

The Premier League is the biggest most important product of any form that the country produces, and loads and loads of people want to watch it. And the other sports they show. That's why contrary to Cable Forum belief, it is a massive, massive big deal to not get the channels, it's horrific business and not 'good business for Virgin' at all. loads of people are leaving and even more will leave if they haven't got it on the 17th, and no absolutely other channel can adequately fill in for BT Sport. Because you can't watch live barclays premier league matches on Nick HD and Sky Atlantic, so everyone wants to leave.

Just like I said :)

(and was told by everyone I was wrong) :)

You are wrong, again. Football is not and never will be the most important product in the country. And yes I am a fan. Also everyone are not leaving, it will be a small percentage.
You need to find some kind of perspective in your outlook, and possibly think before you post After all you are educated as per your earlier post.
