Yes, seriously......

That’s not a bad idea - I take a Bose mini into the bathroom when having a bath, to listen to podcasts; that would make that unnecessary.

I just bought a 1TB Samsung Portable SSD T5, to go in my camera bag.

I need a bigger camera bag as the one my dad gave is too small to carry all my current kit, and so I've been advised by the camera bods at work look at Lowpro.

So I'll get one when I see one I like, along woth a Nikon 105mm Macro lens.

Re: What have you just bought?

A two Terabyte HDD to upgrade my desktop PC. The 1/2T data drive is bursting at the seams with HD movies and TV series as well as my ripped music CD collection and photo library.

I've backed all the sub 4.3 GByte files to a portable 1T USB drive that I use with the laptop and the Smart TV and now just need to copy several larger files temporarilly to the system SSD. (The PC only has 2 SATA ports)

Unfortunately the PC only has USB 2 (480 mbs) so I've calculated that it will take almost 6 days to copy the whole lot back to the new disk. At least it's only a single command to do it so I can just leave it running. PC is on 24/7 as I use it as a media server as well as for work stuff.

Could you disconnect the SSD and connect up the new HD?

Then boot from a live Linux distro and copy the data between the 2 HD's.

I guess that's a way of doing it faster but I'm half way there already so I'll stick with it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm going to have to think about a new build soon as this machine is rather long in the tooth though still quite capable.

A silver 16 plate Mondeo estate titanium - 22400 miles from Ford dealer. It's a petrol so much rarer at the moment than diesel (and no-one wants the 1.5 diesel). I did see others better value but they are hundreds of km away and local buying is more useful when things go wrong.

Downside is we need to borrow to buy so the dealer HP or highstreet, the later is cheaper by over £100 a month but HP is secured on the car so can hand back if payment issues and can pay early with no fees which we hope to do around Oct/Nov. But fees are now controlled.

We didn't want to borrow but my VM shares are no longer growing as they were in Jan and we need the bigger car before October. My wife's Fiesta would be too tight for our camping holiday.

I have never used a cash back site scoopz, How do the work,

You visit the cashback site create a free account and then if you want to buy something at say Debenhams you type that in the search box and it tells you what % cash back you will get if any, then click through to that site, then eventually you will get some money added to your account.

No tricks or anything it is very simple, just make sure you don't have an adblocker running in your browser so they can track for CLICK.

I use https://www.topcashback.co.uk/ and you don't need an account to do a search and see what % you will get back.

I renew my wife's car with RAC (current supplier as price was best on comparison sites) and car isn't worth major haggling.

My new car I had a good quote from the RAC but watched the price rising each time I did a quote even on same data. Got a quote from NFU Mutual. A bit more but can pay over year at 0% and they have a better reputation. Hard to compare as RAC include keys/locks and NFU don't but NFU include other things that RAC charge extra for. I though it worth paying a bit extra as the car is worth more.

A laptop from BHF charity shop ebay… £26 + 9.50 p&p.
Not a fantastic spec, basic function tested (battery works but run time not specified, includes PSU).
1GB RAM (I'll slam that up to 4GB), and I might even try slapping the best Socket P 800 FSB CPU in that I can bag for a song on ebay (T1600 Celeron in it), from what I can discern, the chipset it has supports 800FSB and RAM, while the Celeron is 667FSB, so the best likely upgrade would be 50% more GHz, more FSB, and 3-4x the L2 cache

A PATA (IDE) to dual SATA adapter board. The PCI card that I tried doesn't do DMA* whereas this arrangement will. That's vital to be able to play large (>10 GByte) HD video files without stuttering using the media server.

That's why I never wash mine. I just beat them with a stick every now and then to break up the crusty bits

It is an excellent flash, have fun experimenting with it.

Stock up on rechargeable batteries. High capacity Amazon basics are a good bet.

I bought some AA Energizer rechargeable (2300mHa)

Anyone read those articles dotted around e.g. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...-a7655806.html

In summary and using illustrative figures
£5 wine : £1 VAT, £3 duty, £1.50 costs (including retailer) = 50p for wine
£10 wine : £2 VAT, £3 duty, £2.00 costs = £3.00 for wine

Double price but 6x value on wine.

Go too high you usually pay for the name.

Replacement oscillating bridge components for my series 3 Braun electric shaver. Many of the ( black ) parts have simply worn out. Thought it was getting a bit weak. I don't need to replace the white part. Fortunate as I don't know how to get the darn thing apart to get too it.

High speed train tickets from Rome to Florence for our holiday in Italy in June.

Not a bad price - buying in advance meant I got First Class seats for a journey taking 1 hour 20 minutes to travel 140 miles for only 41.15 Euros each, or £35.60 each.

And considering I renewed my Home Insurance (Building, Contents, including annual Holiday Insurance), and saved just over £100 with a phone call, I'm quids in... :-)
