They've already been trialing this for a few years in one area of London. Is your source suggesting they are rolling this out futher afield?

Yes they're rolling it out to other areas as early as 2014.

bet that will come at a premium price !!

Shouldn't do - quite a few countries offer speeds of that level almost as standard. Typical Britain - always playing catch up!

Let's rephrase the question ... for business or home use ? - sounds like business only ?

Arent most pc's nic's only 1 gig not 1.5 ???

---------- Post added at 13:05 ---------- Previous post was at 13:03 ----------

Home uses would have to upgrade their nic cards or mobos to see the extra speeds then.

Was thinking that myself.

And there was me thinking my 120mb was fast enough for me ! - it's mind boggling how quickly we become dependent on speed - but I do wonder if we could ever (as home users) utilise that type of speed ?

(trying hard not to think of traffic management with that speed !!)

It won't be 1.5 they actually roll out, presumbly they're just testing the network so see what it can deliver.

Liberty/VM have stated they want to stay ahead of BT/Openreach FTTC speeds and with FTTP appearing in small areas delivering 300mb+, VM need to get a move on.

Personally, a unmanaged, untraffic shaped, 60mb service will do me nicely.

Also speed on hard drives processing the data it gets will cause bottlenecking as stated in the link ive posted

VM need to concentrate on the "quality" of their network, not just speed.

With the imminent launch of Netflix on VM and Netflix launching ultra hd over 15mb streams. VM need to ensure that they can deliver at least one or two 15mb streams to everyone without problems and STM.

Streaming tv will quickly take the place of the usenet downloads soon and requires huge capacity. In fact it already does, ie iplayer.

I agree with this. My connection has never been anything less than stable for speed - I always get slightly under 120 mb download and around 22 mb upload, but reading the forums, I seem to be in a minority

How are VM and Netflix going to deliver streams of 15mb to Tivo boxes when the boxes are limited to 10mb?

Good news however that they are testing it, I know the area im in can max speeds of 482mb/s as a VM Tech told me.

Sky Channels I can see coming soon, there is too many different people coming with info for it to be one person trying to dupe everyone.

Well, you're in a minority out of all those who post on internet forums.
