In this case it appears that each party thought that the other would concede just before the launch date.

Yer correct,I have just run retentions and was told if you ain't happy leave,I replied great customer service and the response was well we are getting sick of customers moaning.slammed the phone down.mailed CEOs office and just in a q to speak to sky

Absolutely disgraceful, it amazes me that some employees seem not to have noticed the current economic climate and high level of unemployment.

I say well done, management can only weed out rougue employees (who have the capacity to spoil things for everybody else) if people take the time to alert them to poor service, inappropriate remarks, bad attitude etc.

Absolutely spot on.[/QUOTE]
As previously posted after phoning retentions saved £25 a month

tbf, we are assuming what is being reported of the conversation is verbatim/accurate, rather than a one-sided view of a conversation which did not result in the outcome the caller desired.

It seems the headlines from the Liberty Global results are a loss, and growth for Virgin Media has stalled. It must be more vital than ever to prevent churn.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

As suggested I emailed the ceo's office to complain about the lack of Sky Atlantic and BT Sports and also the lack of communication to customers. I got a quick email reply, and then a phone call about three hours later. I have seen it suggested that the talks between BT/Sky had been broken off but the lady I spoke to said this was not the case, and that they were quite confident of getting the channels but obviously could not say when. She said that as soon as an agreement was reached it would be immediately relayed to all customers. It sounded hopeful, but then it could be a bit of wishful thinking trying to maintain their customer base.

You would certainly think so bud,I know at least 3 people who cancelled there services yesterday I know that doesn't sound so bad when they have 4million+ customers but that's just people I know and so far and if reading comments on Facebook vm page there are certainly a lot threatening/leaving.

I wrote and complained to the CEO Office as well - not because I'm a keen sports fan - I don't have any sports packages, but the principle of failing to cut a deal with BT AND Sky Atlantic is the bottom line here - just shows a lack of desire to compete for what people want - I do want Sky Atlantic, I'm not going to die if we don't get it, but at some point there'll be something out there I want and basically I won't be able to rely on my supplier getting it for me.

Personally, I'd say this was a good result. It may have increased the operating costs for Liberty Global but as a new acquisition, it's going to.

No wonder BT are holding out with Virgin.

They are certainly not getting their way with Sky, so were getting all the flack.

"....Ofcom rejected its attempt to force a wholesale deal before the start of the Premier League season....

The decision means subscribers to BT’s YouView packages will not be able to watch the majority of live televised football for the foreseeable future. BT had applied to the regulator to use its interim powers to force a deal before the first matches on 17 August, arguing BSkyB was abusing its dominance of the market to damage a rival. Ofcom has not rejected the complaint outright, but said today it does not believe BT will be damaged enough to justify emergency action. It said it will not make a full decision for months and potentially not until next year....."

Once you strip away the HD and +1 variants of channels you are left with the following channels exclusive to XL:

Liverpool TV
Motors TV
CBS Reality
CBS Drama
Horror Channel
FOX
Comedy Central Extra
Disney XD
Disney Channel
Disney Junior
Nick Jnr 2
Discovery Travel & Living
Discovery Turbo
National Geographic Wild
National Geographic
History
Crime & Investigation Network
Bio
MTV Rocks
MTV Dance
TV5

Of the 21 channels 4 are for kids and 1 is a foreign channel. If you are not fussed about HD, it certainly would be worth while considering dropping down to the L package and saving some money. You need to ask yourself how many of the above channels you've ever watched, and can you live without them.

Got to admit however as a fan of factual programming the loss of National Geographic and the History Channel would be difficult however still plenty of excellent factual channels in the L package:

Yesterday
Eden
Discovery Channel
Animal Plant
Discovery History
Discovery Science
History 2

Thanks Chad that's a really helpful post. I am considering a downgrade - reading your post it looks like I'd stand to lose 4 or 5 channels I watch regularly, but if I keep Discovery I can probably do without Nat Geo, so it boils down to Fox and Comedy Central Extra.

It said it will not make a full decision for months and potentially not until next year....."

Is comedy central extra show same as comedy central, or does it show different content

Can't remember, don't tend to watch it much (too much to see as is)

Aye fox and comedy centra extra are good channels tho. I enjoy the odd episode of family guy and american dad.

Is it worthwhile speaking to retentions at the moment?? im out of contract and currently on medium broadband and XL tv. Could be worth trying to get VIP for a few more quid and a new contract?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

Might not be worth it, I saw on Twitter someone say they called Virgin yesterday afternoon and they were told fine, leave and go to SKY. Depends on who you get and what sort of day they've had I suppose.

I could be wrong (apologies if so) but from your earlier posts regarding your conversation with the CEO's office, it seems as if a deal is going to happen; the information you got was enough to make you stay rather than switch to Sky, which at the time, you were on the verge of doing. But given that other people are moving to Sky, which surely the CEO's office know about and should be concerned about, what is the hold up? Did they give you an explanation or a hint of what it is?

It seems strange that VM CEO's office could persuade you to stay, whilst seeing other customers defecting to Sky. Something doesn't add up.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

I think retentions were really surprised when I phoned up and said I wanted to cancel Broadband and Phone but keep TV. I was going to go the full hog but I have tried to find out how much it would cost to get Sky installed in my flat and have just gone round in circles.

The communal dish installer tell me to phone my management company because I don't actually have the satellite points installed in my flat, however the management company say I need to contact the installers as its nothing to do with them they just agreed to the dish being installed. In the end I just decided to keep TV with VM.

I did ask about Sky Atlantic and was told that BT Sports is their priority at the moment.

Yes but you have to remember Howard is a very nice man and loyal to VM, i think he got a years supply of popcorn to go with Sky Movies....:D

This highlights why Virgin might be having a tough time with BT.

BT are prepared to risk not having SKY Sports on their YouView platform in order to avoid wholesaling BT Sports to SKY.

If BT are prepared to weaken themselves to try and weaken SKY who knows what they are prepared to do to try and weaken Virgin.

Still no carriage deals agreed with any UK TV platform to carry BT Sports.

I have been trying all afternoon to get through to cancel. On 2 separate occasions waited over 20 minutes before i gave up.

Does anybody know how long it takes VM cancellations to answer the calls?

Of course i am not going to cancel just want a bill reduction

Oh and Discovery Travel and Living is not on XL as it closed a few months back when TLC launched, I find it off that History 2 is on L when History is only on XL.

Does anybody know what happened to the suggestion that Spotify was going to be bundled in with XL?

It could take you quite a while to get through as they have less staff manning the phones generally over the weekend.

Not posted for ages, but just emailed the ceo, and got a speedy response from the team, that didn`t overtly seem like a cut and paste job. So shall see what happens, when they get back to me.

that's because loads and loads are people are ringing up to cancel as Virgin haven't got BT SPort. might takes you hours to get through because i'll let you in on a little secret, there are loads and loads of Sports fans in the UK. The Premier League is the biggest most important product of any form that the country produces, and loads and loads of people want to watch it. And the other sports they show. That's why contrary to Cable Forum belief, it is a massive, massive big deal to not get the channels, it's horrific business and not 'good business for Virgin' at all. loads of people are leaving and even more will leave if they haven't got it on the 17th, and no absolutely other channel can adequately fill in for BT Sport. Because you can't watch live barclays premier league matches on Nick HD and Sky Atlantic, so everyone wants to leave.

Just like I said :)

(and was told by everyone I was wrong) :)

I now take back what i said (different thread folks)...you are a questionable source for info as well (as opposed to being "questionable" period)

Do you work on their helpdesk? Do you have so many friends who are Virgin customers that you can say this with authority?

:D this is what I was after, admission that you don't have a leg to stand on. I proved you wrong and now you are just cracking a few jokes to engineer your exit from debating the facts with me.

Facts: 1) Virgin Media twitter feed is full of said messages i mentioned, and you said is questionable source. Source = credible. There in black and white for anybody with a modem to see (so about 3 billion people).

2) Fact 2) Loads and Loads of sports fans, of which there are loads, are leaving virgin media. Source - all of the internet, all over twitter, and even on this forum (see thread). prior admission from Virgin rep "underestimated the demand for BT Sport."

3) Fact 3) plenty of friends, wedding all day yesterday

4) Fact 4) cracking jokes to engineer your exit from another situation you have lost.

:D

anyway, enough of that. Any updates today? any latest rumours for Saturday. I need to sport out my sports package for the new season. Need to know what I'm doing about it and what channels i am buying from what. A problem that I share with millions of people who love sport, and are persecuted for caring about sport.

Sorry but i take issue with your "facts"
Fact 1) what one person says on twitter doesn't make it fact that is hearsay
Fact 2) subscriptions are up based on confirmed figures, whilst true to say many are leaving many more are joining
Fact 3) good for you but fail to see the relevance or the need to tell us on this thread
Fact 4) what exit?

It does feel you are purposely stirring but then claim to be the victim, I do sense much anger and trouble within you and if you do feel such issues there are plenty of government sites that can offer counciling and guidance for free and I will happily point you in the right direction

Fact 1, not a fact. I said you were a questionable person. To be very clear, a person full of bile that suits the gutter more than the pavement. i apologise I was not clear enough for you. i base that on the comments you have made in other posts, oh, and that is what you call "a fact"

Fact 2, not a fact. Perhaps you need to understand what a source is, there is no verification. I asked whether you were privy to the helpdesk (obviously not) therefore it can not be fact.

Fact 3, not a fact. attending a wedding is no proof of friendship, and for you to say that means you haven't been to many weddings, (ask some who have married at them)

Fact 4. Woahh..almost right but no cigar. Humour was the intent, but not for your benefit. More for mine :D

Opps, and now..education mode off :)

Your logic is Bizarre, and anybody with 2 brain cells to rub together can see that.

Your logic regarding the thousands of upon thousands of reports, and tweet of people wanting to leave Virgin because they haven't got BT Sports is on the same lines of, "I have never been to the Moon, so I cannot say for sure if it exists"

You have just put it to me that because none of us work for Virgin call centre none of us are allowed to gauge that people want to leave. Despite all the scores and scores of evidence in black and white available to us, it isn't true? the call centre is snowed under with calls and there are tons of reports of people struggling to get through. But because none of us work there, it is a questionable source to suggest so?

Admit you are wrong basically. You are just messing about. Not got a leg to stand on and you know it.

Also how would I get an invited to a friends wedding and spend all day and night there if i had no friends.

What is your source on me gate crashing it? You accused me of making up people wanting to leave virgin, but you just made that up. I have proof that you are a questionable source. You don't know me for a start, and have never met me, which automatically makes you a questionable source and a liar. Where's you have no proof that I am. Loads of people are leaving and want to leave Virgin, I have the proof on twitter, forums, articles and comments sections all over the web. It is a fact. It is a proven fact, there is black and white and admission from Virgin staff. Whereas you have no proof of yours.

I'm glad humour was for you, because it wasn't funny.

yawn this isn't going anywhere so i'm just gonna notch this down as another victory for me and be done with it. you are going around in circles looking for a stick to beat me with that isn't there, but you're searching. the crux of the point i made is correct and has been proven correct. it now seems to have degenerated into words i use to throwaway effect, like loads, or tons. obviously i don't mean these to be taken literally. that doesn't take away from the fact that what I said all along was proven true. the lack of BT Sport will make many people leave Virgin. this has proven to be true and there are numerous credible sources to back that up, and scores of it all over the internet. you know it as well :D so it's a waste of time trying to convince you of something you and evvvvvveeerrrryyyyyybody already knows :D

Can you give it a rest now? Some of us actually want to try and get along here...

Common knowledge and proven fact, therefore do not need one. :)

lol..you do know how to spout nonsense, good on you that you got that fact right.

I chalk that down to the old adage, about 1,000 monkeys, keyboards and Shakespeare.

It'll be announcement end of next week and when it doesn't arrive it'll be announcement monday. Then somebody will say Virgin don't usually do a press release on a monday, and that tuesday is more likely.

Latest off Virgin twitter - @DQuick96 We'd be very sorry to see you go, especially as you don't know what's round the corner ;) ^JM

sounds promising. seen quite a few like this. but at this point you wonder if they're just doing stuff like this to stop as many people leaving as possible and get an extra month or two from the bill payer, and also stop them getting any of the good BT/Sky deals on offer before they end. which has been suggested. loads and loads of people have left or want to leave, so they have to do something. let's see.
