When Swansea play United I always root for the home side but so far I'm favouring Swansea. United far too nervy and scrappy for my liking.

Bizarre and incomprehensible to me but if it works for you Russ good luck to you, why don't you root for a draw in non cup games that way everyones a winner

The only manager with proven repeated success at the highest level in the PL would be Mourinho.

Yes but it's not a realistic choice. Since you want Moyes to be fired it's a fair question to ask who would replace him. If United fire Moyes then you won't get Mourinho so who else would you actually get? These are the questions the board would need to ask before making a decision, if they ever lost their minds and gave into the reactionary knee-jerk decisions that are more typical of Spurs that is.

I think you need to give the man time. It's been half a season.

I don't see this as knee-jerk. At no time has Moyes ever looked anywhere near in control of his team and if press reports from today are true he has no plans to sign anyone this month.

The point of the question is to highlight that there needs to be someone out there to take over if you're going to fire him. Fantasy picks don't work. So who do you think could take over if Moyes is fired?

It is knee-jerk. You've only had one half of the season. You need to give him a season or two at least.

A manager doesn't have to be unemployed to be in contention. However unlikely, Mourinho could take over.

A manager with zero experience of a club of this magnitude or at this level making a holy hash of just about everything he's tried so far? Wanting him out is not a knee-jerk. He can take his small-club mentality back to Everton for all I care.

Yes but he isn't. He is managing a team that has more money, is higher in the league, and for whom he has just signed. Mourinho is not taking over United. I would like us to sign Ronaldo this window but it's not going to happen. Who do you think could take over from Moyes who is a feasible candidate?

All big club managers had to start somewhere. Ferguson didn't have it when he took over United. Wenger didn't have it when he took over Arsenal. There is no one who can step into that job without a problem given the problems the squad has and the sheer success his predecessor had. You need to give him time to adapt to the job and build a new squad. Arsenal were poor at times last year and so were Liverpool and this year they're flying, it's the consequence of stability. You would have been amongst the fans that wanted Ferguson out when he also had a bad start.

When people said Moyes needed time this is what they meant. They didn't mean you get to win everything and take credit for giving the guy time, they meant you might have to cope with a rough patch or season as the new guy takes over.

The problem is at big clubs now is generally you don't get time and Wenger is a one off in terms of managers still managing now who have been there for a long time.

The bottom line for owners now is qualify for the Champions League and if they don't then the managers will generally get the sack at the end of the season.

Depends on who would consider it. Pep Guardiola would be the name I'd offer you if I'm being pressed. A good relationship with SAF and experience with big clubs.

No not quite. Bad analogy because United today are a world apart from the club they were in SAF's first few years. They were more of a 'cup team' back then. The whole brand and business model was different, the attacking style of football was almost non existent. The step-up from Aberdeen to United (of 1986) was not as big as Everton to United of today.

But the 'new guy' has to show something, anything to indicate he's capable of the job! Which is what Moyes has easily failed to do.

Again though he has just signed for Munich. I think United isn't an attractive job right now, the squad needs a lot of work, there isn't as much money as City or Chelsea, and they'll be following someone who set a standard they're extremely unlikely to meet. Moyes may not be perfect but he has been given a impossible task and I think he is the man you need to back to get it done. Someone has to do it.

No but then there is no template for taking over United. A club where the manager was as successful, a club which was built around that one man, and a club where the manager was there for so long. Arsenal will be keeping a close eye on how United do this though.

If Arsenal even think about signing Berbatov, they must be stupid. Spurs got rid of him as he was useless and is a player that is not loyal.

As for Walcott, they FA will not be charging him with any offence. If that was Joe Bloggs in the street, we would have been taken from the crowd and charged with an offence, and likely to land up in court.

His gesture was like a incitement to riot, it was a stupid thing to do as especially in front of the Spurs fans - Ok the fans should not have thrown coins, but Walcott should not have made the gesture in the first place.

One rule for one and not the other. IF, Walcott had played for a lower league club, the FA would xcruicify them.

He'll miss the World Cup too. Gnabry and Chamberlain can step in but the fact is Theo scores important goals. Wenger will have to get someone in now.

It is funny how these injuries happen during windows where Wenger reckons he can ride his luck. I odn't believe a signing unless its a trouble maker can mess up the unity within the squad.

I think Wenger is somewhat vindicated now. I know you're not a fan but we're top of the league, qualified from a difficult Champions League group, and just knocked Spurs out of the cup. Give the guy a break.

Coentrão has agreed a deal to join United but the champions may miss out on the left-back for a second consecutive window as Real do not want to sell any players during January. "No players are leaving and we're not going to sign anyone," said Carlo Ancelotti, the Real manager, on Sunday. "The window is closed for us."

As far as Koke is concerned, United have the funds to acquire the midfielder but believe there will be difficulties in trying to sign the 21-year-old. The Atlético sporting director, José Luis Pérez Caminero, signalled as much when stating the player will not leave the club in mid-season. "Koke will be with us for many years. I am convinced," Caminero said. "He is a player who has improved considerably. [He] has also made it into the Spain squad and that puts you in the spotlight and opens more eyes."

United will most likely get to the final anyway but they'll have to play a strong team again. Ideally (for them) they would have been able to get a lead in this game and rest a few players, i.e Rooney, for the home leg presuming he has returned by then.

Managers tend to blame refs even more when the crown is slipping off their head.

If he does not fancy him then let the player go on loan to give him a bit of Premiership seasoning.

David Moyes faces a fight to convince several senior Manchester United players of his credentials following the dismal form that has resulted in three consecutive defeats for the first time in 13 years.

The Guardian can reveal that some within the dressing room are unsure of Moyes's ability to reverse a sequence that includes a league defeat by Tottenham Hotspur, being knocked out of the FA Cup by Swansea City, and Tuesday's 2-1 loss at Sunderland in the League Cup semi-final, first leg.
