An issue I've found is that it keeps recording the AD versions or versions with signing.

I think there needs to be an option to prefer/ignore these so that folk like me don't get these versions but people that need/want these services do get them.

I think that would be a great kudos move. If you need signing/AD then the TiVo will record these for you so you get the shows (where available) in the format you prefer.

Apologies if asked before but does it have the full Youtube experience or the restricted version found on most enabled TVs ?
Would be nice to have the films and TV shows available.

The AD versions are fine though, they have normal audio unless you change the audio track to the AD version.

Signed shows are broadcast on any channel and cant always be avoided. example the Hollyoaks omnibus on Sundays.

I would have thought that there would be a flag in the EPG data to indicate which programmes are signed though. I'm sure some would appreciate the option to skew suggestions towards signed programming as much as the rest of us would like to be able to avoid them.

Someone on the tivocommunity forum has stated that this is indeed the case. It would appear that YouTube videos can be tagged so that they can't be viewed on TVs. Plus, not all YouTube videos are in MPEG4 format.

Once all pre regs have install dates, then it will be opened up to other customers and then new customers after that.

You should get your email towards the end of the month.

Any file that is in the h. 246 format will work so films seem to be fine but no C4 or C5 on demand.

Hi, been following this thread quietly whilst banging my head off a wall :banghead: waiting on Tivo. Dont think ive ever wanted a gadget so
much before. I accept its not gonna be perfect but i can live with that, i lived with the old silver TV Drive and all its problems long enough. I remember the S1 Tivo when it came out and always thought it was a superb bit of kit, now I just want a nice shiny VM Tivo pref yesterday, heres hoping the rest of the month flys past as ive given up hope on the raffle. But worth the wait I suppose.

I would not think that it matters as if the downloads are the same as all the other boxes, it will do them whether it is on or in standby.

The box will update whether on or in standby. VM usually drop code during early morning so not as to disrupt viewing.

I would guess most users never use standy, I never have.

Tivo doesn't have a dynamic guide update system even though sky and, I believe, freeview do. I think tivo updates at reglar intervals though.

Seeing as I haven't heard anything still I might now wait till the other Tivo box comes out in June. I know it has a smaller hard drive but it's only going to cost £49 instead of £149,and I don't record a lot anyhow so it might suit me better.

Most Happy now....

Well 1 week on from instalation ...

I love it !

It really has changed the way I watch TV .. Not watched live TV since having it, I have watched more TV but in less time ... whats an advert ? lol.

Agree suggestions are a little odd at times-Come dine with me prompted tivo to offer all manner of cookery shows.

and yes 2 tuners are limiting at times but fingers crossed #3 will activate this week.

Had a recording fail yesterday. Bang goes the theory. It says in recording hiccups that it wasn't recorded as it had fallen foul of the 28 day rule as I have the episode already on my box. Despite the fact it was a premier with the "new" tag. The only Bang Goes the Theory I had was the winter special from Saturday (which it think's was first shown in 1/1/2000). I've had to manually set the repeat later in the week cos the series link just doesn't want to know about last night's episode.

I guess the question is will all this EPG data come good on 1st April, or is it a work in progress to improve it until then ? Cos as it stands at the moment I'm finding problem almost daily.

Did you have the series link set to New or New and Reruns?

It's best to use New and Reruns at the moment. All my series links are set to that have not had any duplicates recorded at all.

Look out for the forum being flooded with complaints then, and quite rightly so in my view.

Non prize/raffle winers have got it for 149 with no instal charge. Why should we pay more?

Everyone not part of the draws should be having to pay £40 install unless they qualify for free install due to other services they are taking out.

In my browsing through the various forums, I've seen people posting that they've just had to pay 149.

If all non prize winners have to pay for install, then that's fair enough, but that doesnt seem to be the case.

I must hjave missed something in the droves of pages in this thread. When has the install dropped from £149 to £40?

and re reading that unless they qualify for free install due to other services they are taking out I hope that means VIP is free install ;)

It hasn't. The £149 is the up-front fee for the TiVo and the £40 is the installation fee that has been waived for some customers.

New and reruns.

.

It's looking as if we may have to pay 149 + 40 install fee.

Just to complicate things, there are rumours of a 500 gig tivo costing 49 + 40 install coming later. They are rumours, though. I think VM have said that eventually, there will be various versions of tivo boxes and over the next few years, all customes will be moved to a tivo type box.

Yes I specifically set all series links to "new and reruns" now. Point is I set this series link on Sunday and it didn't record the "new" episode on Monday. I thinks I already have it recorded when I don't.

Faulty EPG data or a bug I don't know. I had to manually set it to record the repeat later in the week.

Very impressed with the install. Engineer knew exactly what he was doing and resolved a problem as they had marked the wrong box in the order for the swap out. New card fixed that. Onsite for only 45 mins

I am a existing customer so l will pay the 149 pounds but because l am a existing customer l do not believe l should pay the 40.00 installation fee.

What if you are customer who has paid for your V+ and you want a Tivo? Will that money come off the Tivo price when they swap your Tivo for the box you paid for?

no, it will be £149, plus any install fees that apply to you. The email will explain when you get it.

VM wanted to offer Mersey70 free installation for reasons I don't know. I'm not privvy to his account information/status at that time.

Except remember that tivo doesn't handle padding like the V+ when recording back to back shows on different channels on the same tuner.

"matter too much" being the operative words. I agree, the third tuner will make a difference, but with V+ it didn't "matter at all" :D

Well covered ground though....

It suggested Top Gear and Eastenders in HD for me  ( The first one is good but the second, you can tell who has got the most use of the remote? )

I feel all the effort of paying for services did not pay off in ANY WAY:

I have done loads for Virgin Media...

1.) Upgraded to XL from the cable and wireless days when it was called family pack

2.) payed for a multiroom box (not V+)

3.) Payed for 10MB broadband and Phone service

4.) Got 2 V+ boxes at £150 each - So I payed £300 for the two.

5) Got one replaced twice because they were full of bugs.

6) Upgraded to Sky Sports package (complete) from late 2007 :eeek:

7)Recently upgraded for 2 HD channels from Sky Sports premium at £7 per box.. Just got it on one.

And after all of this they want me to pay another £149 + £40 install + £3 per month FOR TWO BOXES AT £298 for the 2 boxes I need (upstairs and downstairs) +£80 install and £6 per month + cost of multiroom of the additional box on top of that. :(

Blimey Virgin Media you really do know how to treat your customers.

I dont get how you can offer some people free TiVOs or free V+ boxes when there are other customers who struggle to keep paying these payments and still have to fork out full price. I mean congratulations to who ever gets a free TiVO because Im not saying you dont deserve it you probably do but I think its wrong.

The first thing my mate told me when I mensioned some people getting free TiVO and others not is..... FAVOURITISM. - I couldnt respond to that because it got me thinking if Virgin Media really do care about ALL of its customers.

And I for one dont feel cared for by Virgin Media.

Got to admit this makes it not the game changer everyone talks about , don't forget Sky+ has been out years , and you have to pay 3.00 a month for the luxury of missing the end of your show.

As I understand it, you only pay one install fee for whatever is intalled?

We don't know that it will be 3 pounds per box, though it wouldn't surpise me if it was (sky type pricing rubbing off on VM).

I have absolutely no problem with some people getting it free as part of the various raffles; I think it's a good idea. But if you don't win a raffle, we should all pay the same price ----- including S1 owners unless TIVO are footing the bill for any extra discount they get.

I'd love to understand the economics of this, as I understand there have been two raffles of a 1000 each who have not had to pay anything and get a year free. So lets say Virgin have forsaken £149 + £36 (12 * £3 monthly subscription), which is £185 for 2,000 customers in "lost" revenue. That's then £370,000 of lost turnover, which is also enough to give a "free" £40 install to 9,250 customers (with them still paying £149 + £36 a year).

That would then have released outbound call capacity (from not calling raffle winners). They might also then have been able to call and satisfy the demand from TiVo series 1 users that have been missed and will soon not have a service. They would then have also been able to concentrate on people who *want* the service rather than only taking it because it is free. It would also have saved the promotional cost (production, printing and distribution) of doing the "001" ticket mailout.

If they were interested in picking a sample of users they could have used the demographics of the users installed so far and then picked and chosen from the pre-reg list to get the representative sample they needed.

This approach may well have engendered more support from the existing customer base rather than causing the unsettling that has been openly acknowledged by Virgin.

If anyone from Virgin wants to take this further I am experienced with selecting representative samples, call out campaigns and a little on logistics as well. ;) Or you could call me and offer me TiVo, there's some money in it for you too.

I was only joking as once you start playing around with the box you seem to lose track of the time. Sorry to hear about being in plaster, I know how you feel as when I was a bit younger I had my leg in plaster for 6 months due to a cycling accident.

Guys,

This may have already been answered but I can't be bothered to trawl through 300 pages of thread but seen the following artticle on the VMHD website -

http://vmhd.blogspot.com/2011/03/500...n-its-way.html

Are any VM staff members able to confirm or deny whether this is true as this box at a price of £49 plus installation would be a massive seller compared to the 1TB box at £100 more.

Cheers
