Just had a lovely BBQ in the garden with my two lads (too cold for the missus to stay outside despite the clear blue sky lol). My eldest will be 19 in a few months and I'm becoming aware of how soon I'll probably lose him to university and/or some girl somewhere. As for my youngest, well I'm beginning to think about losing him too but for different reasons - namely the point at which we might no longer feel it's fair on us (or him for that matter) to continue to control every aspect of his life for him.

So, happiness mixed with sadness I suppose but c'est la vie! All I'll say is that it's been a lovely evening sipping beer and chatting man to man with my no. 1 son whilst no.2 son concentrated consuming vast amounts of garlic breaf, sausages, garlic mushrooms and beef burgers... :)

Happy days indeed Osem. I remember the day our son moved out. We had had a lovely summer with him having finished A levels and waiting to go to University. The house was always full of him and his friends, impromptu BBQs and never seeming able to keep the fridge stocked. Not to mention the noise of so many young people filling the house and garden.

Then that momentous day when it all seemed to stop. Silence. An empty bedroom. Food in the fridge and no overflowing laundry basket. Looking back it was a hard few weeks but we realised that we had done our job as parents. We no longer had a child to nurture, we had a young man to be proud of who had the abilities to fend for himself out in the real world.

So thank you Osem for triggering some of my own happy memories.

Letting go can seem daunting but when the fledglings come back as adults the happy memories still continue to pile up to be be stored away for rainy days.

I had an odd letter fro the hospital this morning asking me to be a patient for the students in their final exam. free taxi food and paid for it too. nice

Found a £20 note in the garden while cutting the grass (and didn't go over it with the mower so bonus). It's quite exposed up here, so could well have cone from some miles away!!

Maybe a slice of fatted calf would have lessened the impact.

Nobody ever believes my age heero, OK most of the time but it is a pain when I actually want to use my status as a pensioner, carrying proof of my date of birth around with me is something I though I left behind many, many years ago. :)
