It also made more content available than would otherwise be in your package. Really it was only relevant for people who weren't on top tier.

Isn't that the point of a barker channel though? promoting content available elsewhere.

I still remember channels such as The BOX (music television you control) where you'd phone up a premium rate number and input a 3 digit code to the music video you wanted to see, if i remember correctly it used to cost around 50p per phonecall.

Even more expensive than Virgin's Music On Demand. Premium rate numbers are more heavily regulated now and premium rate lines are, perhaps, less likely to happen with Channel 4 now in control. It is difficult to estimate how much demand there was for such services but, with the declining popularity of the music channels, there was probably a point where the cost of operating premium rate lines exceeded any income they were likely to generate

But it wasn't just a barker channel. It allowed you to access content that you couldn't otherwise access.

But the extra content was accessed with VOD via the red button. I don't know, maybe call it an interactive barker channel then? Not an unusual format for Virgin TV.

Blimey! that thread doesn't exactly sing its praises.

IIRC it was introduced to try to make up for the loss of the Sky channels and reduce churn.

I remember using music OD once, and only once. Nice idea but You Tube/Vevo soon took over.

I also remember a Karaoke section, also only used once, remembered I can't actually sing and never used it again.
Is it still exist? :)

True, but with Virgin Music OD, it was easier to find your favourite videos. With YouTube, you have to search for each one apart from a few that appear on your regular tile.

But the selection with Virgin was more restricted, of course.

If you were only interested in your favourite videos, the quickest method would have been to add them to a youtube playlist and access them from that. Going through the VMOD menus to access a video was somewhat clunky.

That's good as those on the lowest Virgin pack, Freesat and Freeview will now be able to enjoy the films formerly on TCM :)

It's only the odd film broadcast on Saturday and Sunday, nothing during the week

Maybe WBD is axing TCM Movies to give their slots to TNT Sports for them to take Sky Sports Mix and Viaplay Xtra on.

They can use Eurosport 1 or 2 to do that though.

I can't see it personally , Their official response doesn't really suggest anything is replacing it
