A great achievement and to do it on that pitch, makes me wonder how many he could have scored on a decent wicket, what a player :tu:

A flat track bully, the Aussie and West Indies quickies soon sussed that he didn't have the bottle to face real, hostile fast bowling, an unfullfilled talent.

John Bracewell hasn't got a clue if he thinks New Road is a flat track

Just check out Hick's test stats against the best, Australia and the Windies, very poor indeed.
The quality of the bowling as well as the wicket is an equal factor and against the best he just does not cut the mustard. :(

As an aside, that sponsors logo on his jumper in that Cricinfo link says it all, sponsored by cheap & nasty Chinese junk.

I used to be a big Hick fan but maybe the pressure of expectation got to him - I remember him being hyped up prior to his test debut in a similar manner to KP. Having said that not many players have scored 40K runs, have a top score of 405 and are still batting at 41! (Averaging 45 this season, with over 500 runs so far)

Imo his problems at test level were mental mainly, that said his average is still 31, not that bad and none of this should detract from his recent achievement, he is one of only 16 to do it and will probably be the last

Test average is not brilliant, particularly if you take out the gentle dobbers from India, New Zealand etc.

As for the game in general it is universally accepted that it has been a 'batsmans' game for some time now. You only need to look a the paucity of the England pace attack to see how standards have fallen and county batsmen don't even get to play against them.

And you only have to compare the state of their pitch compared to most other county pitches, he could have got there years ago if he played for Yorkshire or Surrey for instance

Or even Lancashire , all the TV/Radio pundits agree Old Trafford has the best wicket in the country, what crass stupidity not to play a test match there against the Aussies on their next visit, going to that hotbed of cricket, Cardiff instead.:(

Windies suffer Twenty20 setback

Quote:

West Indies were let down by their batsmen as they lost to Derbyshire by 51 runs in a warm-up for their Twenty20 double-header against England. After restricting the county side to just 135-6, they were then bowled out for 84 in 15.4 overs.
That is poor :disturbd:

Scorecard
