Same here no probââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s with NTL I just want better value for my money. My 128K hardly sets the grass on fire for itâ₠¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s £17.99



The more competition the better, the only service I nearly changed to was Tiscali as a few of my friends are on it and getting more value for money. It looks faster but thatâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s probably due to the numbers using it in our area at the moment.

I do think its a nice deal for people who dont download all the time, but for others its just not good enough...what do they do? Bump you down to 56k if you go over? :td:

I just think now, if im right before there wasnt all these caps and such with 'unlimited' broadband but now all these are popping up.

I for one will just download as much as i want, not worrying about some cap.

Nah no offence taken:) , I understand that some want to download, god I have a friend downloading all day and night, wither he actually uses his machine is another thing but it sits there always downloading something.

Wanadoo 512K - £17.99 a month, with 2 GB download capacity



Is great as I pay 17.99 for 128K and I only use e-mail, browse the net and play the odd game and I to be fair I donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t know what that uses up.



When the say download capacity does that include upstream net stuff like playing games and receiving e-mail? Or is it purely downloading?

Its all right posting all these prices but to keep things balanced there is still plenty of adsl packages unmetered.

difference here is other isp's give you a choice and even the unmetered packages are cheaper then ntl's metered packages, considering both the above isp's dont use transperent proxies either you have to wonder whats going on with ntl.

so for 1 extra pound you get double download bandwidth and no cap and no proxies, even after ntl speed upgrade ntl look absolutely abysmal with this. also take into consideration adsl prices have 256k upload on the 512k packages. ntl really need someone new in marketing.

The upload doesn't concern the masses who want what they consider to be the best value deal, i.e. they want free install, free connection, and a low monthly sub, ideally, free or half price for the first month. If there's one thing ntl don't need to worry about it's marketing broadband to the masses.

I am "one of the masses", I DON'T care about free installation and connection, OR a "free or half-price for the first month" carrot. I DO care about speed per pound and consider that "best value deal" proposers believe Yorkshiremen say"Eeh bah goom!" and Scots chew heather.
I have been waiting in the dark since the initial promise of doubling my 150K speed during late June, which stopped me from going elsewhere.
Now I find, thanks to this great forum - no thanks to NTL at all, I have to wait until "late Summer"for an inferior deal than offered elsewhere. :cry:

And while I'm in full flow, I disagree with selfish customers who sabotage an ISP's attempts to provide a reasonable service for a reasonable price, by downloading continuously pirate music, thereby hogging all the bandwidth, slowing everyone else, increasing the cost of the service and making capping necessary. :blah:

Before I dive for cover, I will admit I have been satisfied with the service I have received from NTL for some years now, and I think the support staff terrific. :hugs:

Who told you it was late june?
If it was NTL, then cancel your account.
Because they have not delivered what you were promised.
It just seems to me, might be wrong, but NTL are getting the money in first before coughing up.
A bit like I have stated previous, you go into your supermarket and pick up a 4 pint carton of milk, getting to the checkout they tell you that will be £3.
When you query the price they tell you "But in late summer it is going to be 6 pints".

First of all there was no need to reply with such a rude smilie.

The speed increases have never been due in late June, they will almost certainly be late August / early September.

As for "the masses" - I'm pretty sure most ntl customers almost certainly do care about the installation charge and low cost startup deals - and only use it for a bit of general browsing and e-mail. Hence most are on the lowest tier.

As for the legendary "masses" - in refuting the blanket assumption of their requirements, I intended to give another point of view, not repeat the assumption of being their spokesperson. Installation costs and start-up deals will certainly be important to some although, as long as they are reasonable, the long-term costs concern me more. I would think, however, that those who have transferred from dial-up are interested in a little more than "a bit of general browsing and email". :)

NTL should offer alternatives ie. the current deal or reduced payment per month with a setup fee and customer buying own modem/router, so they cater for everyone and not just the low end user's.

A friend of mine rang up yesterday and a rep said leicester will be 1st August.

Thats maybe the time they are performing the upgrades required for the speed upgrade, Im now under the impression that this will be a national switch-on, I could be wrong though....... :angel:
