That image looks bad but from the other angle it was clear his other foot wasn't extended and was tucked behind the leading leg. As he followed through that leg then came up but not into the player or the ball. Critically he went into the tackle with one leg. It's a yellow because he went in the way he did but his studs weren't going into the players shins/ankle, he led with a single leg and he won the ball. A red was too harsh.

People are taking 'two feet off the ground' too literally.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims the club can now spend big again.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/n...pend-big-again

Quote:

Arsene Wenger claims Arsenal will spend big again now financial restrictions from the club's stadium move start to ease.

The Gunners boss has been the subject of criticism for failing to win a trophy since 2005 but his supporters point out that he has managed the club through a period of upheaval.

Arsenal moved from Highbury to the more lucrative Emirates Stadium in 2006 and given that capital investment the club is only now starting to reap the financial benefits.

That could see increased spending from Wenger, although he has stressed that the nucleus of the team must remain in place - much like at Barcelona.
"My plan is to keep all of the players we have and then to add maybe, if possible, two new players to the squad," Wenger told Al Jazeera Sport in an interview broadcast on Talksport on Tuesday.

Obviously not true.

Coach that with "because the prices for some is not worth paying", that would be closer to the truth. I don't see wenger overpaying. and to be honest, some of the transfer fees are not value for money.

Either they are a pig in a poke, or a good player with a silly signing on fee

He hasn't claimed that though. It's yet another case of a overly dramatic headline designed to stir things up, even the content of the article undermines it's heading.

Quote:

Wenger said: "We have some improvements to make and we know exactly where. In January it is difficult to find the players that are really better and can give something special to the squad.

"The number is right. We have a good balance. We are working very hard to find what we want.

"We are working very hard. First of all we want to sort out the injuries we have, and we are trying very hard to close the deal with (Theo) Walcott. Once we have done that, we will certainly do something else. At the moment I cannot tell you more."
Of course he also said the squad is good, he isn't going to say otherwise is he?

While there's an annoyance that we've lost out to that odious (Deleted), the willingness of Remy (and his agent) to take the money and sign for a two-bit club playing in a Subbuteo stadium leads us to think that this isn't quite the end of the world.

At the risk of sounding like sour grapes, if this lad was so hot (and his stats aren't anything special), then why are Marseille happy to sell him and accept less than half the supposed previous asking price for doing so?
What actual Newcastle fans think of the Remy saga, I can't back the above nor can I be against it, I knew little about Remy but then again that might be due to the above 'stats' thing. All I know is I'm worried about splashing out on players that have a single league goal to their name at this point if that's what the club is happy to do.

Oh probably. German football is a healthy state, Munich are a big club who can compete but like to bring up their own players and he'll be given a chance to impose a style of the team as that is presumably why they want him.

Manchester City or Chelsea would be clubs that you would think he might be ill-suited for.

Firstly because the Premier League is kind of a basket case at the moment. Struggling to dominate Europe is the way it did a few years ago and rampant and uncontrolled raises in wages and ticket prices which is not so pronounced in Germany. Then he wouldn't have confidence he would have the time needed to build the kind of team he is expected to build at either club, he would be under more pressure (although Munich isn't exactly pressure free). Finally he has hit out at City and Chelsea before and thus it might have appeared hypocritical for him to then go there.

Simply put it's probably that Germany is now a more attractive league now. They're doing better in the Champions League, they have an attractive footballing culture (loud fans buying cheap tickets), they have exciting teams and great managers. Klopp vs Guardiola? Nice.

2001 was a long time ago. Football changes. Munich have gotten to two finals in recent years whilst we're seeing clubs struggle to make the last few stages. Chelsea won it last year but I don't think anyone thinks that reflected strength.

I think he wanted a big club that can win titles. United would have been the most likely English club but that job is taken.

And? If a player cheats at my club..I say so. that isn't self rightous, that is my understanding of what i find acceptable, and what i don't.

Point me to someone who blatantly cheats, and is my club, and you can right condemn him. Want to chop his ghoulies off? I'll hold the scissors for you.

The point is not...look, it is a liverpool cheat. It is..look, there is a cheat, and i don't think it is right.

I don't agree with wearing blinders because it is my club, and will equally show my disgust if it is someone's else's club.

On a brighter note, I am looking forward to the football tonight. Come on swansea and West Ham :D

l don't find any cheating acceptable Colin but lets not it become a Suarez witch-hunt as there are many others just as bad and certain posters know that but conveniently seem to have developed memory loss with regards to many other incidents.

So, have you never criticised another player on another team for cheating? ;)

Not that I am supporting Young for what he did, just that if you are going to dish it out, please take it back when due ;)

Yes discuss, but when Suarez does anything, it is suddenly a anti-Liverpool witch hunt. That isn't discussion.

Every post that is made that criticises another team is based on ill-feelings, including yours. You start off the discussion with the anti- Liverpool stance.

Last year it was Ashley Young diving who got the stick, this year it is Suarez.

So what is your view on what Suarez said in the interview?

l think what Suarez says is wrong and l don't support that type of thinking at all but l am afraid it typifies the endemic attitude by many players and their its alright to cheat attitude which is prevalent in the game of football l am afraid.

You, along with Suarez, are incredibly hypocritical. Suarez has given an interview where he has admitted to cheating and then goes on to moan about United accusing them of cheating, with little or no evidence. Its a big football story so i posted it here to discuss. But of course because it is something bad against Liverpool its instantly a witch hunt in your eyes...To say you have no problems taking it is hilarious because you clearly do.

Damien 16-01-2013 23:24

Re: Football Season 2012/2013

Honestly I still see Suarez and Liverpool in the context of the racism allegations against Evra. The whole thing was horrible. The statement Liverpool released claiming, wrongly, that Evra had a history of making such accusations was beyond the pale. You defend your player but you don't attack others for claiming racist abuse!! What's worse is Suarez admitted he said the words but disputed the context! How was Evra meant to be an expert on South American slang and yet they still inferred he wasn't honest.

UGH. Horrible.

Sorry, off topic. However having said that I don't think Suarez's handball was a big deal. So many players have done that.

Though when i watched it, I did think he is excessively rude. There seems to be a culture of abusing reporters, and thinking that doing that is clever. Rude is rude. There are ways to show displeasure without being rude.
