Yes and it recorded all of it with no problems. Sort of.

A Wishlist was supposed to pick it up but didn't. See this thread for full details. However, other than the very start I did get the whole film; with some possible padding; but only maybe 5 mins at the end. My (rambling) point is that I did not miss the last 15 mins :)

Is it normal for the next connection to the VM server to be scheduled for 1 day and 2 hours after the last successful one?

Can any one answer what VCM connection is or does in settings. My tiVo crashed 2/3 mornings on the trot and i noticed VCM connection said

Last attempt thurs jan01@00.00
Last successfull thurs jan01@00.00
Next scheduled thurs26/5@07.32

I done a connection to vm network and this seems to have sorted it now 3 above things at right or appropriate time and dates and no more crashes

Had the Ti/Vo box a month now and overall am very impressed. It has inhanced our viewing experience and has provided flexibility beyond what we had with the V+. Really like the searching facility and the way the box gets to know what we like. It will be interesting to see how TiVo develops in the future.Have been using the remote record facility as well.

I just tried for you. There is no problem with the epg on my computer but when I try to record on both the sd and hd ITV channels I am getting an error message. VM really need to sort this out as for me remote record is the only buggy part of the tivo experience. It usually works but it needs to work every time.

To be fair they are two completely different systems , I've never had issues with remote record on sky whether via website , email link or Sky+ app on android , iPhone or iPad.

If you went with a 500GB box then decided you wanted 1TB would they charge you £200 or £150 (£200 - £50 for 500GB)?

I would not like to comment on this but I can understand you thinking in regards to this. Would this need to be done in the 7 days?

scotmac 28-05-2011 15:44

I would imagine that if it were done during the cooling off period it would be, £199 activation for the 1TB and the £49 activation refunded for the 500GB. Not sure if any install fee would be involved.

I imagine its at least 50% the broadcasters fault for the problems especially with channels like Watch where they seem to broadcast most of their shows at random and therefore the description is usually a summary of the show as opposed to a description of that episode meaning things like series number and episode number are likely to be negated. Then when they do show original content, the lack of information may sometimes carry over.

Or its just a human will always be better at scheduling things.

Probably the latter.

Yes. Werid.

ETA: I have just checked this out and it seems that this week's ep has been set up on a different TMSID. You need to report this to VM. A TMSID is the unique identifier given to every programme or film so that it can be, well, identified. We will all have this problem so we should all report it :)

ETA2: Upon further investigation it looks like this Saturdays ep has (I assume accidentally) been put in the Series Link used by the older series of the show; ie pre-2005. I only spetted this when I saw that the "old series" picture (McCoy and McCann) appeared in my Discovery Bar because 'Arthur Darvill appears in this show'. Erm... no, he probably doesnt :D

Well my SL for "Primeval" is currently going to record this week's Tuesday ep only and is only going to record both new eps next week due to generic data. No other old series eps are due to be recorded. So I don't know what your problem is

And the DR WHO issue has been reported and will be fixed in time.

OK, how do you 'explore this show' for a recorded programme which you're playing back?

carlwaring 30-05-2011 23:09

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Well you can't without stopping playback ;)

Just go to the main info screen for the show; ie by clicking 'ok' whilst the show is highlighted in "My Shows".

What the heck is wrong with the EPG data for new South Park episodes? It just has a generic show description so it is recording about 30 odd episodes a week.

At the moment we have a Samsung V+ box with the HDMI connection going to a DVI input on a Philips TV. This obviously does not carry audio. To get audio we have the audio from the VCR SCART connected to the audio in on the TV.

Can anyone confirm if this is possible on the TIVO or if there is an audio out connector on the TIVO which could connect directly to the audio in on the TV

Thanks
David

I have the same problem (HDMI to DVI gets me a picture, but no sound). Could you let me know exactly how you managed to get the audio through the scart lead? I have tried this myself, but no success. If you could give me a step-by-step guide I would be incredibly grateful.

Thanks in advance

You need a cable something like this that extracts the audio signal from the SCART
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Phono-...6865368&sr=8-1

But you need to make sure you get one with the right connector for your TV. Check your TV manual to see which audio input it uses with DVI. If in doubt, post the TV model number here.

I have a cable that looks like the one you suggested (scart to red, white, yellow). I have plugged the scart into the VCR port at the back of the Samsung Virgin box and I have connected the red and white cables to the 2 matching audio inputs that sit next to my DVI socket on the back of the TV.

I then go into Virgin's setup menu, to the adjust audio and visual settings and switch to HDMI, which gives me a picture (no audio).

I have tried selecting override HDMI audio, but nothing changes (still no sound).

The cable I am using is a monster cable. I have also tried the exact same procedure with a cable that has red, white and yellow on each end of the wire, and plugging one end into my x-box scart converter - still no audio.

I am sure it is a simple matter, and that I am doing something very basic wrong, but I have spend 2 hours now and am getting a little frustrated.

I really appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

The audio associated with the DVI is analogue. You'll need to breakout from the scart (red and white leads) or come straight from the left & right audio connectors and connect to a 3.5mm jack connector or adaptor, that should sort your sound out. Something like this http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...%7Cprd:3515965

You should finf the 3.5mm jack socket nect to DVI input somewhere.

Thanks for your suggestion, but my TV doesn't have a 3.5mm jack socketnear the DVI input. I do have a headphone socket, which a 3.5mm socket fits into, but this doesn't seem to do anything.

I've found the TV manual and I agree you are using the right sockets. A couple of possibilities... Firstly, maybe the cable is wired as a SCART input cable, not an output. The one I posted the link to has a switch so you can use it either way round. The other possibility is that the volume is turned down or muted on the V+ box. Could you temporarily use a SCART-SCART lead just to confirm you are getting sound out of the V+?

By the way, you posted this in a TiVo thread, but I assume you have a Samsung V+ box. Perhaps a passing mod could split it into its own thread?

Hi.

I have already checked the sound through the bottom scart connection on the back of the Samsung box (works fine).

The reason I posted in here is because I'm upgrading to TiVo later this month and I am led to believe that I will encounter the exact same problem with the audio connections (or lack of). I was trying to get a heads up, so I can fix the problem straight away. Unless there is another option with TiVo to DVI?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. :)

spiderplant 31-05-2011 23:25

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

You need to use the top SCART socket on the V+, not the bottom one. The bottom one is disabled when in HDMI mode.

The TiVo only has one SCART socket, which is active at all times.

My solution was much as others have said, SCART plug with output selected to the 3.5mm audio input on the TV, this was my solution on both the V+ and now on the TIVO.

I seem to remember on the V+ that I had selected a specific sound setting and I cannot remember what it was sorry. When we had the V+ moved to another room (where TV was HDMI) there was no sound until we worked out that the sound setting had to be changed.

My TV is a philips also but 26" and the jack is no where near the DVI connection, it is to the rear but at the side.

This makes for interesting reading. I wonder if TiVo has prompted them to do this...

I know, depressing isn't it. And you can even click on it and it will take you to the ad on youtube!

I really hope adverts like this don't become the norm because they are very irritating and pointless IMO.

I'm still waiting for the suggestions in the bar to become more relevant. In the US version they have them suggested because "It is in the top 100 season passes" and "It won a Emmy this year". We just have "We love it, we hope you do too" and "Because it is similar to other shows you enjoy" - the exact same shows are appearing though. Scrubs - I already have a series link. Friends - I also already have a series link.

When will we get something like "Because it won the award for Best Drama Series at the National Television Awards 2011"?

I noticed it, but that's about all. If and when you're forced to watch an ad, or whatever, is the time I will start complaining.

An ad in the Discovery Bar is nothing, really :)

Perhaps not, but it would be nice if the space was taken up showing me something useful, like a suggested tv programme.

Most of the rest of it is. Plus there's actual suggestions elsewhere too ;) My only problem is the shows suggested "... because we love and and hope you do too", which I invariably don't :(

Just found that. I hadn't got picasa on my laptop so I downloaded it, created an account and uploaded a folder of photos. The photos load fast and look good on my plasma. This will be a useful app.
Only thing they could improve is that as far as I can see you can only view the photos as a slide show.

You can make the slide show go faster or slower by going into the setting.

Also you make your favorites aswell.

Yes thanks for that. It would be nice if you could scroll through pictures one at time. It's still very useful though and I would say there is a good chance the app will be improved in time. Apart from that one thing it works very well.

I would also like to add it will be brilliant for when you have been on holiday and you are able to show them on the TV, Not to be crowded around the computer or digital camera )

I was messing around in the settings recently and found that you can customise the discovery bar suggestions. That definitely wasn't available in April when I first got the box.

Since I changed some of the settings it's been a little better.

I missed that as well. Saying that, I came home from work one day to find TiVo had recorded 18 suggestions in about 10 hours, all Of them repeats that I'd already seen of shows I'd thumbed up. I turned off suggestions straight away. That was about 4 weeks ago.

Hi,

anyone had this happen recently, last night Tivo set to record BGT,Corrie ITV1 HD and Megacities BBC1 HD

When i go into my shows BGT had only recorded for 36 mins, Corrie 2 mins and Megacities 1 min.

Tried to play back BGT and Tvio whet into a fit the unit locked up and the hard drive was making a clicking sound.

Done a reset and it now seems ok.

First problem i have had with Tivo, hope it is a one off.

I agree. And if it means generating more money for VM, which means more money to invest in TiVo/VM TV improvements then all the better.

I dont get it, why off Suggestions? They are only that - suggestions - you don't have to watch them.

If you turn off this key feature then you may miss things you would have wanted and will lose the chance to discover new programmes you might like based on your current viewing preferences.

Its like buying a widescreen tv for the first time and then putting masking tape down either side to make the picture more like the shape you are used to! ;)

I think the quality of the BBC iPlayer is excellent, especially when you turn HD on. Can't tell the difference between it and the one on the V+

When you put it like that, it does seem like a stupid idea. But to be honest, with the larger HDD, I've been a little lax in catching up on my recordings. I've got multiple episodes of several series links to watch, so I can't see how I'll have enough time to watch other stuff. Also, I seem to find out when new worthwhile series are coming (Cable Forum is a great source of info!;)). But you make a good point, so maybe I'll keep thumbing for a couple of weeks, turn suggestions back on, and see how it goes:D

I've either read it on this forum or another "TiVo automatically adds ten minutes of padding to all suggestions". This padding is subject to clipping but none of your planned recordings are subject to clipping due to a suggestion. The suggestion will be dropped if there is a clash.

Only seen a bit of that modern family , but it was quite funny , I suppose them shows alone prove the thumbing up procedure works as they are similar type shows eg American family type.

I agree devilincarnate. Suggestions is a very good feature. It's a bit like catch up really where you can find something you fancy watching at that moment in time or try viewing something new.
