It's good to have nice friends.

I just got let down with getting to my groups christmas dinner Monday and within half an hour of finding out I had several offers to take me.

Thanks to them indeedy :tu: - and it makes me happy to know such great people.

I have some great friends too. I am off tonight to see them and listen to good Country Music. That is what we enjoy.
You enjoy too wherever you go.

Just booked some flights to go visit my son in South Carolina next March (he is coming home for Christmas, but after that, unless we visit him, we won't see him until the semester ends early May 2012).

Only cost me taxes/charges, as I used BA/Avios Airmiles and a Amex BA Companion Voucher - result.

But what a sweet ending for Mr Williams.

Lap top died yesterday, https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/12/44.gif totally deceased, https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/12/44.gif too expensive a hard wear failure to consider a repair. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/12/44.gif

Got taken out this morning by my Darling, Super Nice, Generous, Fantastical John and now have a brand spanking new laptop. https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2012/05/29.gif

Just spent the afternoon setting it up and loading all my bits and pieces on to the beast. Thank goodness for all the backups I used to hate doing onto my external HD.https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2014/03/1.gif

I will say though, it's was a pleasant surprise to see how much you could do on the internet with a Kindle. Tortuously slow, but doable in an emergency.

I know what it's like to be without a laptop for even a few hours. Your new one seems to have a special extra :D
I'm a stranger to kindle but I'd really miss my strange black-box NAS in the study if/when I need it.
Well done gurl. Kudos to your hubby.

Yes l remember my PC breaking down 2 years ago and l was left without one for 12 days and yet it seemed like years at the time as l nearly do everything through my PC and in my mind having one is just as important as having transport.

really good. Just how we like them (Not cremated!! and not raw) Bernaise sauce, chips, rings (two kinds battered and griddled), peas....

Just the extractor, even though it's vented outside, can't keep up with the griddle on full welly. And you need the heat to do the steaks properly on the outside (dark crusty bits) without over doing the inside (soft juicy bits)

Time to snuggle down with a good DVD. TV's carp on Saturdays. For us anyway.

Just remembered there's "Freebie and the bean" stashed on the HDD DVD recorder. Might run that one up. Deliciously un-PC.

Well we all have our own tastes in life and if we all liked the same thing would'nt life be boring.

At the behest of one of the band members, we went to see Rhombus at The Gasworks in Bradford.

They were really rather good!

Stayed overnight and today went back to The Karachi curry house, which was the site of my first taste of 'authentic' Asian sub-continent food 30 years ago. I was such a Southern Jessie (as in the review) that I too asked where the cutlery was!

Anyway, the Keema Massala was just as good as I recalled; a real trip down Memory Lane...:)

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Our precious 4 foot lemon and orange trees have made a miraculous recovery and are growing again! :)

We left them out (albeit in a sheltered spot and covered with fleece) during last winter and although they shed all their leaves they looked like they'd survived all the ice and snow. Sadly, however, in the following weeks/months they appeared to die, their stems turning brown and dry. I cut off most of the dead wood to burn and was intending to reuse the pots for something else but forgot all about them. Now I find about a foot of new growth on each tree coming from below the surface of the compost. Talk about a recovery! I've just been tending to them and the smell of their crushed leaves in the beautiful sunshine is just awesome - evocative of far more exotic places. :)

Anyway, they're supposed to be hardy down to - 4/5 degrees but, this winter, I'm going to be a lot more careful and will bring them into our garage when it get's colder along with a couple of date palms we have in pots.

Happy days. :)

Osem 05-12-2011 10:18

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Yes, I've seem a few large outdoor yucca type plants locally which appeared to have died right back and some have started growing again. It's quite amazing really. :)

I think maybe my decision to wrap the pots themselves in some old shower curtain material just made the difference between the compost freezing solid and not. They had at between 6" and a foot of snow surrounding them for more than a couple of weeks so it was a very near miss.

Anyway I've just been outside in the garden and I still have new growth, flowers and recently pollinated fruit on my tomatoes plus a few blossoms on our Bramley apple tree. Not bad for November eh? Let's hope a major drought in the spring/summer doesn't spoil the party.

Just picked up my lad from Manchester airport - he is back for three weeks, after being at Uni in the USA since early August.

Really good to have him home for Christmas.

Apparently in a moment of boredom (boredom whilst on CF !!!!!!!!!!) she managed to mess up her settings and knocked herself off the Birthday List.

Way to go Sweetie. :D
