As Absolute Radio and Planet Rock are both losing money, it would make sense for Bauer Radio to save money by making cuts and merging them with its existing brands, so you were probably thinking along the right lines.

The trouble is, Bauer have expressed an interest in purchasing assets previously, such as the Smooth/Real brands from GMG and certain radio stations in the Midlands. As they failed to complete any of these deals, I'd be cautious about assuming this will be any different. I would wait until they actually complete the purchase before speculating on how it may affect channels carried by VM.

Channel 851, as Media Boy said, is BBC1 AD. Channel 861 is BBC1 Eng.

Both carry the the national BBC One feed. This appears to be based in London as per the local news that is shown, but people have told me when i've asked about this, that they sometimes show different programmes as BBC One National and BBC One London are different  Anybody??

MUTV ownership changes

Manchester United have acquired the one-third minority equity stake in Manchester United Television (MUTV) from BskyB (Sky). MUTV is now a wholly-owned group subsidiary.

As part of the club's long-term digital media plans, Manchester United has made the strategic acquisition of Sky’s stake in MUTV in order to own 100 per cent of the content production and distribution capabilities of this business.

MUTV is broadcasting on Virgin Channel 528.

The BBC1 London is the service feed for all the other english regions. You can tell this when they occasionally foul up on the continuity with the local opt-outs. BBC1 AD is also the London feed, as it is the only one that carries AD (Sky viewers also have to select BBC1 London to receive the AD service.)

So it is shown as BBC 1 ENG as opposed to BBC 1 ( which in my area is WALES) What "local" news it feeds is of NO interest to me. We switch when wanting to see a non local programme , instead of setting a recording for it in the middle of the night . The EPG calls it BBC 1 England - My paper tv guide calls it BBC 1 ( variations are in small print at the bottom of the page)
