Correct.

The modems wont last much longer either when a new system gets put in place.

Well i've changed my stance from Neutral to against these boxes and any other sh*t like it..

Cloned modems, Free tv

£37 a month for my BB.. and these guys dont pay for zilch

I mean Sky tv with HD packs etc. alone is around 52.00 a month due to go up to 72.00 or so when i get sky broadband to replace VM

Is it just Virgin you can get these modems for.. If so yet another brilliant Flaw in VM's appauling system!

I apoligize for my original stance of not caring about these boxes and whatnot but when there actually stealing the internet to go with it.. thats just insulting

You can get sky hd for £23 a month and a free hd box.

Yes only on virgin can these modems be cloned.

I think we're putting too much faith in our Northern friends abilities to crack something that has so far remained intact.

Typical freetard bluster if you ask me.

Part of me would like to think that the UK has such talented programmers that they can crack Nagra3 (if that even is what the new system is) in days when it isn't even fully rolled out when the best that Canada/Germany/USA/Spain etc. haven't been able to crack it.

Somehow I doubt it which leaves the options of:
  • VM are using a different system which is easier to crack
  • The people who claim to have cracked it are talking out their bottoms

Re: Virgin media possibly getting serious on dodgy boxes?

Thing is Derek you can never say never. Look at how long its took VM to get to a point where they are ready to roll it out. Look at how much time the boxes have been available? pretty much all the time since the old analogue boxes were actually chipped

Ive seen advanced systems where a certain box is hooked up and connected remotely to a system where a pier who has a powered dish and actually subscribes to loads of different satellite services and then somehow allows the 3rd party boxes to access the content ( admittedly the guy got caught)

Even if it takes 2 or 3 more years to crack it how many more years will it take before VM can beat them again?

Re: Virgin media possibly getting serious on dodgy boxes?

VM aren't using plain Nagra 3, they have financial guarantees from Kudelski on the strength of the conditional access system that has been made for them and it remains a fact that no-one has been able to crack even plain Nagra 3.

It would be interesting to see how people in Middlesbrough who don't even have the signals being transmitted to them managed to compromise the CA, and more to the point how they managed to do in a matter of weeks what the rest of the world hasn't been able to do in over 2 years.

I do love reading those boards, where they use various insulting names to describe the cable company. The least they could do is be polite as they steal service.

I find the sites lower my IQ so can't spend too long on them.

ive got no idea on the subject but I do know saying something will never be cracked gives it an awful long lifespan in which it has to remain secure lol

Cardsharing, it's pretty trivial to do on near enough any encryption, but it's relatively easy to track down and stop rather than having to fix encryption.

The only type of cardsharing that lasts is between very close groups of friends, you simply cannot have widespread cardsharing as you just have to let the wrong person in for it to be shut down.

Re: Virgin media possibly getting serious on dodgy boxes?

Systems don't tend to be cracked in the way some people imagine. It often involves inside help often either through blackmail or bribery. I'm pretty sure the reason why NDS hasn't fallen is due to better people management and no single person holding enough information to completely break the encryption. Maybe Kudelski have learnt from their previous mistakes in this respect.
To suggest some random person in Middlesbrough has broken this system is ludicrous to say the least, unless they have access to an electron microscope then it isn't going to come from there. Older techniques which I won't mention here don't seem to be working. If VM do switch to N3 or an enhanced version of, then I would guess that IPTV will have taken over long before that system is broken.
