Star Trek into Darkness very good film with issues. Do not read spoiler if you have any interest

Spoiler:
Khan !!! problem is though they tried to put the whole story into the movie where it was a series episode and of course WoK. Kirk going into the core Spock shouting Khan felt a little bit wrong to me but still a good film

Star Trek Into Darkness 9/10

Loved it.

Whole film felt the right length and a very good Trek movie. Loved the little nods to the original series. Nurse Chapel got a mention. Not gonna mention any spoilers though but I liked what they did with the character.

Klingons looked a little odd.

Star trek into darkness 7/10. (IMAX/3d)
(the 1st one I'd give 8.5/10).

I found the story was just a-b with nothing inbetween. Another one I could sum up in a couple of seconds. I enjoyed it but it's quite a forgettable film at the same time. I came out feeling a little disappointed.

Really enjoyable and some great car chases and fight scenes although one or two were a bit too far fetched.

7 Should be very interesting as there was a small post credit scene featuring... (Spoilers added in case you haven't already seen it mentioned online)

Star Trek : Into Darkness 3D Imax.

7/10 3D was a disappointment, probably because it wasn't filmed in 3D. Picture quality was not as good as I expected, thought it would be great HD, but was about the same as any other cinema screen quality. Story was mediocre. Sound was great.

Star Trek Into Darkness 3D - 9/10

The picture quality in 3D was good and the storyline was good. I thought that it was a good twist, in that things may be change, but have a similar ending ;)

A good day too die hard.

It's hard to believe that Bruce Willis is still making these types of films. He is s great actor with a barrel load of quality films under his belt (and a few stuff ones too) but John McClane should have hung up his tin star after the third outing.
lots of action, the car/truck chase at the beginning is about the best bit.
6/10

3D HFR looks absolutely stunning and will hopefully be Industry standard at some point.
The critics who said it was 'meh' can get stuffed, this has hear, guts and magic just like LOTR did. Can't wait for the next one! :)

Finally saw the Hobbit, on DVD. Loved it.

Some people have complained that Jackson has stuffed what is essentially a short-ish children's story with too much additional material, but I don't see any other way he could have done it. Tolkein may have fleshed out Middle Earth after writing the Hobbit, but Jackson made the Hobbit after creating an on-screen version of Middle Earth. We know too much about Bilbo, Gandalf and Middle Earth for a 90-minute treatment to have worked.

Gandalf may not have been concerned about Sauron at the time the Hobbit was written, but when you look back on Tolkein's completed works and their timeline, it is inconceivable that he would not have been concerned, and would not have taken the opportunity to discuss it with the likes of Lord Elrond and Lady Galadriel.

Tolkein's great achievement is the creation of a universe and people, all of which have an existence before and after the stories that are told about them. Jackson has successfully translated that to the screen. I was enjoying being back in Middle Earth as much as I was enjoying the story that happened to be taking place there at the time. I can't wait for The Desolation of Smaug, although I may have to wait for the DVD again.

If I have any complaint at all, it would be that the exposition in the first half hour went from being far too rushed, in Bilbo's retelling of the fall of Erebor, to far too slow, in establishing the Company of Thorin. But once they got out on the road things went quite nicely.

8/10.

We had a lazy day on Saturday as the sun was hiding. We watched ARGO a historical drama thriller film directed by Ben Affleck. A CIA operative is charged with the rescue of six U.S diplomats from Tehran, Iran, during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. It kept us hooked into the film 9/10

We then watched "The Life of Pi" A fantasy adventure film. Piscine Patel "Pi" survives 227 days on a life boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger he named Richard Parker. Well acted and a lovely story 10/10

Man of Steel

Very entertaining, brilliant effects. But too many stupid moments let it down. I thought it was better than star trek anyway.

I would give the film 9 but have to mark it down -1 for the stupid bits and -1 for Louis Lane. so a 7. If you can get past the bits I didn't like and if you like super hero films you won't be disappointed.

And for once the trailers didn't spoil it unlike star trek.

Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing

After finishing work on The Avengers, Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse) spent 12 days on a secret shoot at his own house: A black & white modern-dress adaptation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

The cast? A whole load of his favourite actors from his TV series, such as Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker.

The result? Wonderful :)

Hope it turns into a trilogy. Not your average unread romero flick.

I'm old school when it comes to zombie movies. I like real bleak end of the world stuff with plenty of gore and slow meandering zombies. I just didn't like the globe trotting grandeur of World War Z and never really accepted Pitt in his role.

If you liked 28 Days Later you'll really enjoy this. If you a more a fan of the Romero genre this might not tick all of your boxes.

II will probably enjoy this then ;)

I watched that not long ago. Can't remember where I read it (so can't provide a link), but I read the only reason that it didn't get a sequel is that Sam Jackson didn't want to make one and he'd played the part so well that the studio only wanted him to play the part.

i'm leaning towards both of those judgements being the right calls. i thought it was Quentin Tarantinos film, i would have said the set up was there for a sequel but its not.

Pacific Rim

Next-Gen Blockbuster with a story that entertains and FX that left me speechless. :)

I need to get out so tomorrow it might be a toss up between Pacific Rim or The World End. Though I'm a sucker for big bold special effects.

From the reviews here I can safely ignore the review from the guardian which gave Rim only 2 out of 5.

It's quite cheesy and cliched, with certain plot points easily predicted, but I still loved it. Fun, great action, spectacular visuals.

Listen to Damien and go see it,the FX are jaw-dropping and it has to be seen at the cinema for full effect!

The Heat 7/10

Comedy starring Sandra Bullock as an uptight FBI Special Agent paired with a foul-mouthed Boston cop to take down a ruthless drug lord. I know it sounds terrible however it turned out to have some real funny moments. I found it funny, my wife found it funny and others in the cinema laughed loud throughout.

This was actually better than I expected, it even had a half decent story, as well as fantastic effects.
